Therein lies the problem paying for points not results. Any GM can do that. There are many better players that are not top 10 in points. I never have & never will agree points means top money. The select few fall into that category as in perennial MVP types or generational or elite goal scorers or elite D & main drivers in cup wins.

It's not about worth, it's about relative worth in a rising salary cap world.

Petey turns 26 next season and has already established himself among the top players in the league. If he were to sign to 12 per for 8 by the time he turned 33 the top players in the league will likely be making 20 million plus

I’ve considered all of that but the term ‘top players’ we differ on. Points are not my measuring stick value is. Cups get rewarded. Stud D are higher rated. He can get paid later if he signs a shorter term. Takes the risk to get the bigger payday.
