100% agree

Who on the Flyers have the elite talent of Quinn Hughes or Elias Pettersson? Vancouver has way more talent their record would indicate the past few years. Torts has done far more with less than Tocchet or any other coach mentioned.

- jd250

Are we judging by actual skill or salary? Flyers are more than will to pay people as if they were elite, but no one on that roster really is.

They have an excellent PK (thank Brad Shaw). They have 11 players who were first-round picks in their draft year. Twelve if the injured Ristolainen counts. Thirteen with Staal.

Do the Flyers have any superstars? No. Are they devoid of roster talent or depth? No.

- bmeltzer

When you are only dressing 11 forwards and one is ND, you are absolutely short of depth. A team with a couple of superstar forwards can get away this, but on a team like the Flyers you need every single player to contribute and the goon contributes squat.

Gotta add JT Miller at this point. Bit of a late bloomer, but at this point he’s been great since he’s gotten to Vancouver and a superstar the past 3 years.

agree, but a team that has been drafting, doesn't have high end talent, should at least be able to fill out a 4th line.

You still don't understand what the Jack Adams award is about. Do yourself a favor and look at the history of the award and see if having elite talent is a negative for winning the award.

No, they are not devoid of talent, but the Flyers have no one close to the elite level of Hughes and Pettersson, the Flyers lost their starting goalie to a sexual assault charge, and their top prospect decided he doesn't want to play for them. And yet here they are with a great chance of making the playoffs, not as a wildcard but as a top 3 team in their division. Add to this that the Flyers were picked my many to be in the bottom 5 of the league at the start of this season, and I would say it's a slam dunk Torts should win the award if the Flyers indeed make the playoffs.
- jd250

LOL, you said last year that Tortorella was the hands down winner. Tocchet is winning the Jack Adams award unless Vancouver poops the bed.

Laczynski has been dealing with injuries for two months and Torts wasn't a believer last year. Allison is out of favor.
- bmeltzer

Brink is also out of favor, and Lycksell is not a Torts type of player, so there's no one they can call up who will actually play.

would love to see if allison can contribute in the NHL again after recovering from his injuries
- 2Real

Yeah, I can't say I've followed his play on the Phantoms too closely, but it was good to see he's played 40 out of 46 games.

Is it better long term for brink to play more minutes in the AHL and work on his overall game or do so sparingly in the NHL? What’s best for his career?

Tortorella is overachieving with this roster. He’s got to be in the conversation for the Jack Adams.
- PLindbergh31

The thing that Torts should get plaudits for is that he recognized that his team wasn't talented enough to score while playing turtle hockey so he opened things up and they started manufacturing quality chances.

That, along with the team being able to win despite pretty mediocre goaltending, probably does put him in the conversation.

I personally don't think he deserves to win, tho. Still too many questionable decisions.

If the Flyers make the playoffs Torts will be among the top 3 nominees and that can be taken to the bank. I have ZERO doubt about this comment, so you can throw it back in my face if they make the playoffs and he isn't there. Thanks!

If you followed other teams as closely you do the flyers you would find more to nitpick. Not saying he doesn’t make questionable decisions but all coaches do. Even the good ones .

There are a lot of glaring pros and cons but for the most part, the pros have outweighed the cons. No excuse for two D and one forward in the 3v3.

There's room in the lineup for him to play 13 minutes a game on the Flyers. They are only icing 10 NHL level forwards

he gets more ice time in the AHL but the Phantoms are a poop show outside of the PP, so not sure how much it helps 22 year old Brink to be slumming it

I don't think there is anyone who doubts that if the Flyers make the playoffs. He won't win the award though.

could careless if torts wins the coach of the year.
Could careless if torts doesn't win the coach of the year.

end of the day it is meaningless for anything the flyers are doing going forward.

Their top prospect has no bearing on the NHL team other than they added a top 4 dman be ause of it.

Stop devaluing tocchets achievement because he has peterson and Quinn, they still have to perform. Jorts is getting blood from a stone with this 11/7 trash and its going to blow up in his face unless DB starts making trades

- THE BLACK HAND

I think that is the primary reason Torts is playing 11/7, so teams can scout their defenseman and Briere can make trades.

Not saying Tocchet has done a bad job, I like the guy and all, just that Torts has done more with less, and to me that should weigh heavily when voting for the best coach.

That's right, I thought Torts has the hands down best coach last year also, I totally stand by this remark.
