I think that is the primary reason Torts is playing 11/7, so teams can scout their defenseman and Briere can make trades.

Not saying Tocchet has done a bad job, I like the guy and all, just that Torts has done more with less, and to me that should weigh heavily when voting for the best coach.

- jd250

lol....that is not a reason in anyway I would bet.

playing 6 would be a better way to do that as 6 is more stable than a jammed up 7.

That's a tough contract to swallow.
- Pelle31Forever

He has 1 year left at $8m per, but Nashville is retaining 50%, so it is only a $4 million cap hit next year, and what would be left of his salary this year..not as bad as it could seem.

Brink is also out of favor, and Lycksell is not a Torts type of player, so there's no one they can call up who will actually play.
- Feanor

Why do you say Brink is out of favor? He has some things to work on and he is doing that, I hope, in the AHL. Brink seemed to take the demotion well, showed up and played hard for the Phantoms, unlike Allison initially, so think the Flyers will give him another shot at some point, probably before the end of this season.

Remember when you said he was nowhere near the finalists? We do.

I certainly do ... in fact he jumped down my throat when I first mentioned this months ago. Just another example of how eventually, I'm proven right more often than not.

Yes, he is having a great year and I was going to put him on the list, but I think TK is at his level.
- jd250

No, no he is not...Miller had 99 points 2 seasons ago,82 last year, and is sitting in 5th in the league this year at 75 points in 56 games..right behind your other TK favorite comparison of Pastrnak..who has 80 points in 56 games this year.

TK is 59th with 53 points in 56 games. TK's highest point production year was 22/23..he got 61 points in 60 games...at 82 games that would put him at 84 points. (1.0166666667 points per game average)

The thing with Vancouver is that they have had multiple coaches..like 4 with this current core, and only Tochett has been able to get them to play like this.

That also says something.

The thing that Torts should get plaudits for is that he recognized that his team wasn't talented enough to score while playing turtle hockey so he opened things up and they started manufacturing quality chances.

That, along with the team being able to win despite pretty mediocre goaltending, probably does put him in the conversation.

I personally don't think he deserves to win, tho. Still too many questionable decisions.

- Tomahawk

Fair. I think if you look at this roster, the fact he’s got them in a playoff position is pretty remarkable. They may miss the playoffs still, but it won’t be on Tortorella.

Who is the goaltender next year? Can’t just hand the keys to Ersson, I don’t have much faith in him.

The reason Brink has not been called up, from the Athletic today:

Phantoms coach Ian Laperriere has been pleased with Brink but also indicated the 22-year-old can have more of an impact.

“His mindset has been great. He came in with a big smile on his face, he knows he’s playing big minutes and he’s going to be playing big minutes,” Laperriere said. “His game has been all right. First two or three games he dominated, especially on the power play, but he needs to be a little bit better five-on-five. That’s my message to him, and he knows. It’s not like he’s not playing well, it’s just like a player like that with that amount of skill that he has needs to elevate his game and help us a little more five-on-five. Attitude-wise, he’s been amazing.”

LOL, you have a bad recollection. What I said is that he was not a lock for the award, as numerous posters have stated. I have stated numerous times that if the Flyers make the playoffs, he'll get consideration, but he is not a lock for that either. Due to there being numerous other potential worthy coaches.

Quantify how Tortorella has done more with less?

Good points! You are right, I guess Miller has done it enough now to say he is also at an elite level. So just another player on Vancouver the Flyers have no counterpart for. Tocchet has certainly done a lot to get the most out of this team, but I also wonder how much is due to Hughes and Pettersson's just normal maturation as players and leaders.

That's right, I thought Torts has the hands down best coach last year also, I totally stand by this remark.

Get your act together. I jumped down your throat for saying Tortorella is the hands down winner. He's not. How exactly have you been proven right? LOL. Did they announce the winner and I missed it? Not only do you lack hockey knowledge but you also lack common sense.

Just admit it ... when I brought this up last season you called me crazy. When I brought this up again earlier this season you said I was in a fantasy world. Now you have moved your opinion to agreeing Torts deserves to be in the conversation and may even be in the top 3 candidates. So by the end of the season when the Flyers still make the playoffs even after trading players for future assets at the deadline, losing their number 1 goalie and having their top prospect quit of them, you will tell us how all along you knew Torts would win the award if the Flyers made the playoffs

hakws +160 tonight

And yet they’re in prime position to draft #1 again. The hawks have it figured out.

Yes, you are crazy for stating that Tortorella was the hands down winner of the Jack Adams last season. He received zero votes while the winner, Jim Montgomery received 78 out of 82 first place votes. Clear proof that you're opinion was idiotic and a fantasy.

Again, this year, you're been spouting that he should be the winner of the award. At this point in time, while he will receive some consideration, he is very unlikely to win. It will again be proven that you live in a fantasy world with zero clue.

I thought the same thing, but don't feel like arguing over things like this today.

The other thing is, after you get past the stars in Vancouver..it's kinda like a who the hell is that?

Nils Aman, Arshdeep Bains, Teddy Blueger, Casey DeSmith, Philip DiGiuseppe, Sam Lafferty, ...lol our old friend Mark Friedman....a whole lot of who????

And I live in the Vancouver area of the continent.

Your hero Montgomery is getting fired this year once the Bruins are once again knocked out in the first round of the playoffs, mark it down.

That identifies areas of his game that he has to improve on. It does not identify why he can't be called up to work on the same issues. He has proven he can play at the NHL level. It's another player that Tortorella singled out and diminished by lowering ice time and opportunity. Then when the player inevitably struggled more, due to low ice time, was then sent down. Instead of sticking with the player and letting him play it out at the NHL level. Tortorella is awful with young player development.
