The LTIR loophole that enables a team to put a player on LTIR to get around cap restrictions, and then add that same player to the roster in the playoffs when there is no cap. - jd250
That's not a loophole but that is an area where the league has to crack down on. A player needs to be activated as soon as he is healthy enough to play.

Vancouver's GA/GP in 22/23 was 3.61. This season it is 2.71, almost a goal a game better. - MJL
Watching them last season they were arguably more of a mess than the Flyers. And it took Tocch less than half a season to "fix"?

LOL, you have a bad recollection. What I said is that he was not a lock for the award, as numerous posters have stated. I have stated numerous times that if the Flyers make the playoffs, he'll get consideration, but he is not a lock for that either. Due to there being numerous other potential worthy coaches. - MJL
JD is insane for believing Torts deserved to win coach of the year last season and even more insane to stand by this statement seeing how it wasn’t true or close to happening. On the other hand, you’ve pretty much said Torts is a bad coach since day one and the Flyers need to get all the young players away from him. |

Waivers and demoting a player are two separate roster transactions. If a player is waived and clears, he can stay with the NHL team and the waivers are good for 30 days and or 10 games played. |

You're not following along well. The comments I'm referring to there were made months ago in previous conversations. As others have claimed that I have made statements that I haven't. Things are becoming more clarified now. Try and follow along. |

Coaches get too much credit when their teams play well, and too much blame when their teams play poorly.
In Vancouver's case, I think it was just a matter of the team finally playing up to its level of talent and some key youngsters taking the next steps. Maybe Tocchet was able to facilitate that growth or maybe he's just arrived at the right place, right time. He certainly wasn't very good in Arizona. - Tomahawk I'm gonna go with right place at the right time here. I really don't think Tocchet is that good of coach. The right situation fell into his lap. I was dreading the fact that I thought the Flyers were gonna hire him as coach before they hired Torts.

So a bit of a test for Vancouver here...they have lost 3 straight..sitting at 70 points in 58 games played.
Edmonton, as bad as their first 30 games were, are sitting at 57 points in 52 games. 13 points back, with 6 games in hand.
Edmonton could almost catch Vancouver if they continue to play the way they have since their coaching change.
A test for Tocchett for sure.
How does this tie to Philly? Edmontons coach is Kris Knoblauch, who was an assistant here when Fletcher was in charge. He replaced Mullen as PP coach, but then Fletcher didn't resign him because for whatever reason he might of had. This was a huge failure, as Knoblauch was deemed an up and coming coach when he was hired here. Can't help but think he would have worked well with the current group.
If Edmonton can pull this off, and catch Vancouver..Knoblauch would have to be considered for the Jack Adams, no? From out of the playoffs by a long shot at Thanksgiven, to having a shot at first...would be incredible.
I also don't think Edmonton is looking for a goalie anymore, as Skinner is now 25-12-1, 2.69GAA, .910 SP. - TheFreak The Oil were favorites of many pundits to come out of the west at the beginning of the season, so I doubt this guy would get much consideration for the Jack Adams. |

I don't know why some think being a favorite coming into the season matters. It doesn't. Knoblauch took on a team that was floundering and turned them around. They went on a 16 game win streak. He's going to get some votes.

Have we ever had a more polarizing coach? End of the day the players are playing good hockey. Overachieving which has been years since we could say that. Torts can’t take all the credit but he surely deserves some. He might have some old school tactics but I do t think anyone really thought this team would be here and to do this with some great contributions but not a single player at a point a game average just amazing me. |
