Well, I guess you and I look at depth completely differently. This team is playing 11 forwards cause they don't even have enough NHL level forwards to dress 12 and this includes ND (who shouldn't even be in the NHL anymore). Not sure how you see this team as having depth and I firmly disagree. Coots has not been playing well for awhile now and he looked VERY sluggish to me last night. When he was on the ice with ND last night I couldn't tell which one was more sluggish. Oh, and he has 3 points in his last 12 games (2 goals in his last 20). That ain't getting it done, so I'll disagree with your sentiment on that as well.

That's just the coach not wanting to play certain players I'm not at all worried about Couturier. It's just a scoring slump, that's all. His underlying numbers are strong. Add a couple of elite forwards to the top of the lineup, everyone slots where they belong and the Flyers have strong depth. It's the top of the lineup that is the issue, not depth players.

Right now we would be facing Carolina....I don't really see that changing. I can see both wild cards coming from the Atlantic...
Boston
Florida
Toronto
Tampa
Detroit....I think they make it this year, and Yzerman might be looking to add some depth this year.

I think if we are to make the playoffs, it will have to be one of the top 3 spots in the Metro.

NYR
Carolina
Philly/ NJD

I don't think Philly fares well against Carolina...I don't need to point out their strengths. Even if it is NYR..I still don't like Philly's chances with that. If we get a WC spot, Philly would still be playing either NYR or Carolina....

Just saying.

I actually think Carolina would be the best possible matchup for the Flyers. Obviously they (Canes) would be favored, but I could see that being a very tight series with lots of one goal games. They aren't loaded with firepower and their goaltending isn't gonna really scare anyone. I know they were picked by many to come out of the east at the beginning of the year, but that happens every year and they seem to disappoint.

I expect to lose against the rangers outright and lose in OT against the Penguins this weekend. With this said there is no upside for the franchise to shed salary at the deadline unless we’re talking about expiring contracts the organization has no intention of renewing. Seeler and Walker are a completely different set of circumstances to Laughton and Konency. In every business, making money comes first. Making the playoffs brings more money. Every fan should on this board should want to see Farabee, Frost, Tippett, Drysdale and Ersson get playoff experience. The team has come too far and to back track now makes no sense, especially if you aren’t getting a top 5 pick in 2024 out of it.

The Canes are both a top 10 scoring team and top 10 defensively. With the way the Flyers play, I would rather play the Rangers. So are the Rangers. Both teams are very good and significantly better than the Flyers. It's pick your poison.

Matthews scores 2 goals last night to become the fastest born American player to reach 50 goals in a season. We are blessed to be able to witness one of the best goal scorers in NHL history play.

Just seems to me that the Flyers play the Canes tough. I could be mistaken, but it seems like they almost always play one goal games that frequently go into OT/shootout. As much as I hate to admit it, the Rags are kind of scary to me. Lots of high end skill and some toughness to go along with very good goaltending.

It's the opposite. This team has depth. What it lacks is the elite players at the top. Couturier is not cooked. Not even close. Why would you play Couturier more than that against an awful team where despite not having anywhere close to the team's A game, you have the game well in hand? Chicago is awful. No reason to play a player like Couturier more than that in a long season.
- MJL

hasn't danny boy said they want to build around depth not elite players or only a few. Cant remember completely what he said months ago.

All good points. So that means we need more talent and more depth. Let’s get say 3 more picks or prospects to start re stocking the cupboards. A couple of years doing that and we might be in business as some of the players start to move into the ahl or nhl. We’re just not there. If we make it, Well run into a NY BOS, CAR FLA and be exposed for lack of depth. We try hard but that only gets you so far.

Imagine if they kept the 6 picks (give or take) they pissed away for RR, TDA and trading ghost

When Risto doesn't play, the team doesn't miss him at all.

25 games and three more seasons games left left at $5,100,000.

I just pray for some sort of miracle whereby someone is desperate and takes him off our hands. Unfortunately, I don’t see it happening. We’d have to give up a pick to have someone take him and retain. Or we’d have to buy him out which is not wise. Best to ride it out and maybe someone takes him in the last year with retained.

9 goals in his past 4 games haha. Guy is going nuts.

Also interesting that his career goals/game is better than OV, Wayne, Bure and both Hulls at the moment. Mario and Bossy are the only guys ahead of him. If he doesn't run into injury trouble and the league doesn't lock out the players multiple times, he'll probably end up with 800+ goals easy.

Let’s see how he does in the playoffs. With this epic season, I expect him to lead the leafs to the promised land.
