9 goals in his past 4 games haha. Guy is going nuts.
Also interesting that his career goals/game is better than OV, Wayne, Bure and both Hulls at the moment. Mario and Bossy are the only guys ahead of him. If he doesn't run into injury trouble and the league doesn't lock out the players multiple times, he'll probably end up with 800+ goals easy. - Tomahawk
Yeah, but not a better goals/game than some of them at that point in their career. We gotta see when/if he slows with age or injury.
He might not! Ovie had a second wind after a little slump halfway through his career and he bounced back. He was the 10th fastest to get to 300.
This year Matthews crossed the 300 goal mark in his 482nd game early this season, good for 14th quickest. Gretzky had it done somehow at 350. Bure was actually 2nd and then Mario just after. |

You really hate the Leafs, don't you? - MJL
I do hate the leafs but I really like Matthews. I wish we had him. I just go back tot he stupidity of paying all the forwards that much without seeing any playoff success. It’s high time they change it up and trade marner or nylander for some defensive help. Also seems weird that they’re better without him.
Of note, we get completely inundated by the media with leafs all the time even when they are bad. It’s beyond annoying and for some reason many of their fans are quite arrogant despite a lack of success. It’s like the yankees except they don’t win championships |

He'll probably still have some trade value down the road if they eat 50%. He's basically the next Luke Schenn/Bogosian/Jack Johnson. From unlimited upside to toolsy role-player.

Good points.
IMO Mario was the best ever. Guy could just score at will in a hundred different ways. And he was putting up 50-70 goals in the trap era, which is nuts. Pavel did too.... what a shame neither of them had OV's longevity and health. |

Is it really worth it to buy him out? Or is it better to retain on a trade? Or, and probably, are both so terrible that you just keep him. |

Say what you will about Torts, and I must admit he’s growing on me. But there’s no denying that it was a class act of him to seek permission from GMDB to speak with the players that are potentially getting traded. Those may be some of the little off-ice things that helps turn this franchise around and back to a destination for good free agents.
I haven’t been thrilled with the 7/11 but it seems to be working and it also kind of sends a message to the Phantoms that “none of you have earned a spot as one of the 12F, so keep improving and working hard.”
I think most of us agree that we want the Flyers to stay the course with this franchise-building plan insofar as expiring contracts need to be traded for assets, and older veterans need to seriously be considered as trade bait if the return makes the team more likely to be a contender in the next few years. |

I was looking at Bossy's stats the other day. Holy crap, over 50 (sometimes 60) goals every year except his final season when he scored (only) 38.

Yeah, contenders look for those kinds of players for depth.
You just can't really contend with them playing high in the lineup. |

Separate but related, yet another year out of the playoffs for Buffalo. Wth are they doing with that franchise? Lots of first round picks but just cannot get it together. I mean, it Looks like the oilers have finally turned the corner but wow. What a mess. You’d think they accidentally get it right at a certain point. |

No question. I see what you’re saying.
I won’t argue with anyone who hates Risto’s contract. It’s not an issue for me. I personally hated what we gave up for him. As a player, I don’t think he’s played bad. If he does get bought out and let’s say Tampa picks him up, I think Risto will be a good depth player. |

Exactly. Yep problems there. What we gave up to get him and what we signed him for. Probably the worst move by fletch once he’s done the contract he could be a decent bottom 6 guy for like 1 mil a year. |

We have been clamoring for the Phantoms to have the same system as the Flyers. Go figure rock head emulates the one aspect of the Flyers system that you should steer clear of.... |

ND is redundant to Hathaway. Hathaway provides everything that ND provides physically and then some. He hits anything that moves and he makes it count when he hits someone. Oh, and he has 6 goals on the season to ND's ZERO. ND has to go bye bye...I guess another buyout? - Phillywhiteout
ND can't even hit now. I saw several occasions where the puck carrier passed the puck and then simply stepped sideways. But boy did ND punish those walls... |

Well, I guess you and I look at depth completely differently. This team is playing 11 forwards cause they don't even have enough NHL level forwards to dress 12 and this includes ND (who shouldn't even be in the NHL anymore). Not sure how you see this team as having depth and I firmly disagree. Coots has not been playing well for awhile now and he looked VERY sluggish to me last night. When he was on the ice with ND last night I couldn't tell which one was more sluggish. Oh, and he has 3 points in his last 12 games (2 goals in his last 20). That ain't getting it done, so I'll disagree with your sentiment on that as well. Although he did throw a great check on York to prevent him from getting back into play on the lone Hawks goal. - Phillywhiteout
Has Couturier scores since being made captain? Has Tippet scores since signing his extension? |

I always think he was the most physically dominant player i ever saw...but think of the inverse. He wouldn't be able to just manhandle dudes like he did. It was a marvel, no joke if i had to win a hockey game maybe only Mario would be the guy i pick, dodgeball style, first. But to watch him just extinguish dudes (sometimes on the other side of the line)...that was part of what made him great. Not sure it would flourish along with his offensive skills as much as a Mario or Bure would |
