This is the way I always try to look at it.
I would have been ok with 5 min, because the head was the principle point of contact. But, Rempe kept his elbow down, didn't leave his feet or stride into him and didn't put him into the boards. On top of which Bastian had his head in his feet.
Feel bad for the kid, but the match penalty should lend toward there being no further discipline, at least.

This is kind of where I lean too. He was bent over so his head was in the line of fire. I guess Rempe should realize that idk. It’s tough play for everyone if he’s upright it’s probably a just a really good hit. At least the penalty didn’t burn us, matter of fact it gave us the momentum of the game and we never looked back

The devils looked intimidated tho after that, so this size in the lineup is good thing.

That was a FUN game to watch. The Rangers looked like they were playing a team full of their little brothers. Just dominating all game.

My opinion on the Rempe hit is that it was definitely a penalty, but no way a match. Bastians head was in his skates. Rempe had everything tucked and no elbow was thrown. It's an unfortunate situation and I knew it could have gone either way, but I truthfully didnt think it was a match penalty. Either way, the kid will learn from it and it seems like he has the support of Lavs

The point Im making is, Rempe never deviated from the line he took to the play. Had Bastian never turned for the puck, Rempe would have either... completely missed Bastian or would have to adjust his line and put him in the boards.

Do players have to be conscious of what they do when they're trying to retrieve and battle for pucks, of course. However, players are in that position all the time in those kinds of situations.

Overall, pretty good game. Didn't like they took what seemed like a dozen penalties. Only blemish was Laf and Miller at the nd, but tough to be mad at 5-1 win. Power play 1 needs to figure it out. Shesterkin is finding his mojo.

I still don't understand how Bastian didn't get 2,5, and 10.

The penalty on Rempe was just that. Argue all you want if it was a major or minor, but it was 100% a penalty.

Panarin was amazing last night. that whole line was.

This hit is what rule 48 was created for. Do I think Rempe tried to hurt Bastian, no. Do I think Rempe is at fault for being bigger? Yeah, but it's still a direct hit to the head causing an injury. If that was Bahl on Vesey, I'd want it called the same way.

Maybe ever. Theres a case for that. The Kreider hate is ridiculous, although I do feel it has died down as of recent. I know lots of Ranger fans were not big on resigning him when his last contract was up because people thought he was to streaky and disappeared from time to time. That rarely ever happens nowadays. He is noticeable nearly every shift it seems

I mean, he's not better than Leetch. I love Kreider, but Leetch is one of the 10-15 best defensemen of all time.

Not sure what my favourite part of the night was. Either Trouba making sure Bastian had an absolutely miserable night with that open ice hit, or Rempe putting a stop to Siegenthaler's tough-guy stint with one shot!!

Trouba for me if those are my two choices. That hit by him was perfect. Hard, violent, clean.

lol, that's a mic drop sort of statement for that discussion!
I was laughing to myself this morning...
There is a charity tournament in the city here this weekend with some ex-NHLer's, including Wendel Clark. Was thinking of taking my wife to see about getting her Clark jersey autographed. He is her all-time fave Leaf. Was thinking, mine would easily be Leetch.

How did it feel watching that game, essentially that being a home for the Rangers?
