exactly - same poop in Toronto.
it is going to be sad to see the impacts of the "Dubas genius"... first place where you notice it is not really having had the balls to go all-in and actually get something for all the draft capital he spent - and the abject stupidity of giving Carolina a 1st to take on Marleau's salary. I will be intrigued to see how badly he botches the Pens situation.
I fear that Treliving will do the same at the deadline - spend a 1st to get "meh" ... instead of spending more and actually getting a potential difference maker.

Hearing that Treliving offered Nylander for Parayko must be a little concerning. |

Leafs need a good stay home Dman. However, if they trade that 1st pic, it will be for someone with term, or a 1st and prospect for good young D on contract. Makes no sense to give up a 1st for Tanev as a rental.
So……Tanev as a rental, Timmins straight across, and I like Timmins. Tanev isn’t staying in Calgary and Timmins will. That’s it that’s all. |

don't worry it's Brad Treliving, he "only trades at the draft".
I don't think he'll trade TO's 1st, but that's crazy considering all recent cup winners did so with no hesitation. IMO this is about posturing for Mcdavid, have a cheap 1st rounder ELC to make Mcdavid's $19m/yr cap hit work. |

To those who under value Tanev will NEVER understand how to build and what it takes to win

I’m not anti Tanev…..just think that giving up a 1st for him, for a run, makes no sense. I only say that because I don’t feel the Leafs have the team to win this year. So it’s a wasted 1st. Sign him in the off season for two year. |

Marner and him UFA the same year. See ya Mitch!! Shouldn’t have screwed us so bad last contract. |

Nice generalization. I like Tanev. He's a solid #4 guy. As you said, you need guys like him to win.
But Ek and others like to label him as a top pair guy. I take issue with that. He isn't. It helps to watch the games.
Then the question of acquisition cost. If Chris Tanev is the difference between making the Cup Finals versus being bounced in the first round, then it's probably worth giving up a 1st or equivalent in talent. But if the improvement in your roster is marginal, and your organization is already thin on draft capital, then you can still like Tanev but oppose paying that price for him. I hate the Leafs. I could care less what they do. But I can certainly understand Leaf fans who don't view Tanev as enough of a difference maker to warrant the price. I'd probably just add William Carrier for a 3rd rounder.

If I’m the Leafs it means I’m not smart enough to pay the going rate for Parayko (2 1st’s) which ALSO means I am dumb enough to OVERPAY for Tanev. That said…
To TOR: D C. Tanev (50% Retained)
LW AJ Greer
To CGY: 2024 1st Round Pick
F Ryan Reaves

#1 there's no upside/rebound potential in Reaves (think Sharangovich, Kuzmenko)
#2 now we're talking about additional compensation for cap dump, 1st covers Reaves but not enough for Tanev and Greer.
Credit to you for asking for Greer, even though he's a 4th liner he's a gamer who delivers, former Boston Bruin
