Like phillips?
You know what I say: Put sullivan in a uniform and have him go out there and let him deal with players like des, reaves, Wifi, gudas etc...and tell him to just play the game the right way...Or whatever the hell sullivan says in his pregame speech... |

WTF are you talking about? You folks in western PA sure are weird.

Do I need to spell it out more? Cal Peterson had a superior game in net than Tristan Jarry in every single metric in the game on Sunday. Also, your ignorance is now showing as well. I live in eastern Canada.
Insecure and ignorant. What a horrible life combo. Good luck with it. |

Yager is their best forward, (or any position) prospect by a mile. After that, it's still probably Poulin. At their ages, many sites don't even consider Puustinen or Gruden prospects anymore. If he was healthy, I'd hope Poulin would be up right now.
Incidentally, Ilyin, the Pens 5th round pick this year, was ranked 3rd forward and sixth overall by the Athletic mid season. Having a post draft offensive breakout like Puustinen did, but he's 18 not 20 at draft.
The fact those guys are your 5 and six prospects, neither in many people's minds sure fire NHLers, and the Pens prospects actually drop off a cliff after them, shows how bad they need every round 1-3 pick of it's time to restock. - Tojo.
If dubas trades like he drafts we should be good to go...Hopefully? I'm not sure about dubas though? If he thought toronto needed more grit while he was GM there, what the hell's he watching in pittsburgh? The pens are the softest team in hockey and rank #1 with least pim's in the league? That isn't good if you have no PP to speak of? |

I guess one Rumor site is saying the Canucks were scouting the Pens, and have asked about Guentzel and Rust (each separately). |

To me, Rust is very close to a core player. He has consistently produced up and down the lineup, no matter who he has played with. I'd want a 1st and a good prospect or an NHL ready prospect to even think about it.
If Vancouver wants to give up a 1st and 3rd, cool.
If Toronto wants to give up Robertson with no other salaries (beyond this season) coming back, I'd take a shot.

Rust is absolutely core for me, Jake too. Both much more so than Ek. In fact, I dont consider Ek core at all hahah

We are a week and a half away from the deadline... Dubas needs to get his ass in gear.
Must Happen:
1. Trade Smith ASAP - who cares what the return is. Whether we get a 2nd or 3rd or 5th, I don't care. I just want the cap space in the offseason.
2. Trade Jake - I am sure we can get a 1st, 2nd and a prospect from multiple teams.
Would like to see happen:
1. Trade Rackell - going to have to take back salary. Ideally I'd like to trade him + some assets for a better player on a contract. Like Rackell & a 1st from the Jake trade to Arizona for Crouse, a 2024 3rd & 2025 3rd. Or better yet, let them keep the picks and take Graves.
2. Trade Jarry - he is at peak value in a market thirsty for goalies. I really want Fleury back next season in a tandem, but there will be plenty of options in the offseason. Something like:
Jarry to Toronto for Robertson, a mid pick & Samsonov.
Jarry to the Kings for Talbot, Turcotte/Kaliyev & a 2nd.
Jarry to the Wings for Husso (cheap BO in offseason), Berggeren & a 2nd.
3. Listen on Malkin - He seems a bit uninterested, and I can't necessarily blame him looking at the quality of wingers he has been playing with. Carolina, Dallas, Colorado all have the assets and would likely pay big. Florida seems like a natural fit but they don't have the juice. It would have to be a pretty massive return to do something of course. I'm talking multiple 1st round picks and an NHL ready prospect. Even that I am not entirely sold on but we need to consider all options.
Probably makes more sense in the offseason:
1. Trade Graves. Ideally trade him with some assets for a 2LD upgrade.
2. Look into a Karlsson trade. I think Ottawa, Anaheim & Seattle would all be in on him big time. It would have to be a top value return to trade him but those teams have the juice to do a deal.

Metrically, they were both piss poor. The only difference for me was that I thought every shot on Peterson was going in no matter how stoppable it was, never had the same though with Jarry.
Again, not saying Jarry played well at all. Just thought he looked less bad. |

It looked like a game Jarry would let in just about everything as well. When the Flyers got their 4th goal it was on 14 shots. 1 goal difference final score and Jarry faced 11 less shots in total and 11 less high danger chances in all situations than Peterson. Peterson was better than Jarry haha. |

You said Malkin, not Draisaitl. Heck that's not even RNH. You MAY get a 1st and a good prospect.
Also, EK is not going to get you "top value." The Pens basically married EK when they traded for him, and look at what they gave up, a heap of trash and a 2 picks. At his age and cap hit coupled with his numbers this year, why would another team offer more than that? |

On Malkin I am perfectly happy keeping him. My point was that I would listen if someone is going to offer a huge haul for him. Lets keep it real here, the Hawks got 2 1sts and a 4th for Brandon Hagel... if I am Colorado with a gaping hole at 2C on an otherwise stacked team, it would be a small price to pay for a near PPG center with 3 cups on his resume.
The Pens got Karlsson for what they got him for because he blocked trades to everywhere else that wanted him. Does he regret his decision at this point... probably. His buddy Alfie is in the front office in Ottawa and they are stacked on LD but have no one good at RD. Seems like a perfect fit. We can take Chabot (to flip) or Norris (to keep) in a trade, give or take some pieces.

Yes, the Hagel trade happened once (as did the Yashin trade, viewed as possibly the worst trade in NHL history). Hagel also wasn't 37 years old and looking disinterested. I don't see multiple firsts coming back for him at this stage, not to mention the cap juggling they'd have to do when Landeskog comes back next year.
Why would Ottawa want to give up what you listed for guy who makes a ton of money that you want to get rid of? If you want him gone from the Pens, what makes you think other GMs would be giddy to give you a big return?
When the Penguins traded for EK with his cap hit and term there were two possible scenarios:
1) He plays well. If he plays well and his helping the team, you keep him.
2) He doesn't play well. No one will want an underperforming player with his cap hit and term. |

He is playing well, though. Having his best defensive season while 14th in points amongst all dmen, all with brand new club and systems. Arguably the strongest underlying numbers (3rd best xGF% and CF% and best HDCF%) of career. On pace for 60+ points despite the horribly producing power play. He had 32 points on the PP last season, 17 so far this season.
I did a full comparison of him and Fox, whos paid only 500k less, in last blog and Ek is the stronger 5 on 5 player, Fox is producing more on PP. Fox's shooting percentage is 12% this season, Ek's is 5.3%. |
