They stopped in 2020, and they shouldn't have.

Defense prospects are more valued league wide then forward prospects.

That gap in avoiding taking defense in the 2nd round is costing them, and may continue to do so unless one or both of their 5th/6th round picks really pan out.

On defense, they do not, and every team is looking to bolster their defense prospect depth, including the Sabres.
