Flyers gotta Flyer.
Edit: Even 2.5 mil is an overpay. Is there seriously no one cheap on the Phantoms who can block shots? |

The Flyers did want to sign him and were prepared to sign him when they met in May of 2023. The player at that time informed the Flyers he did not want to play for them, for such petty reasons as 1. He wanted to play meaningless NHL games at the end of last season and 2. wanted a guaranteed spot on the roster this year. If you think the Flyers or any NHL team should bend over backwards for a prospect then you are a fool. Quitter on draft day stated he wanted to play a year in college and then join the Flyers the following season. It was all set up for him to do that but then he refused to sign an ELC. This is 100% on Quitter .. and I know Karma will even things out. - jd250
Not true.
His year he was talking about was the one that finished in March, he wanted to sign a contract, and Briere didn't want to because of bonuses. They came back after he excelled at the world Championships 2 months later and offered a contract kicking in after a second year of school.
They changed the agreement. He was plssed. You are changing what happened to fit your needs. |

Seels thinks he's still negotiating w/ Chuck
And the Flyers apparently believe he's a legit top-4 defenseman |

Wasn't just that, even when NP was in the lineup he wasn't very good outside of a few brief stretches. Just a ton of pre-draft hype and almost none of it materialized into NHL production. - Tomahawk
100%, i didnt see anything from him even when he was healthy. The odd really nice play here and there, but that was it.

It's mind boggling. There has to be someone in LHV making 800k who can do what he can. |

Maybe on the ice... but after Laughts there isn't a better cheerleader for The Standard than Seels. Those intangibles are definitely worth the $$$. |

Laperriere blocks them with his head and got a lifetime contract. |

Here we go Flyers about to pay a premium for services that can be rendered by league minimum guys. Just like their 4th line. |

Oh .. so you think the Flyers should have let him burn 1 year of his ELC so he can play a couple of meaningless games at the end of last season?? Get freak'n real! Who the hell is Quitter to dictate terms? Like I said, he should thank his lucky stars to even get a chance in the NHL. Now he can have fun playing for of the least relevant teams in the league. - jd250
I do, it happens all the time.
Thank his lucky stars..lol..he is a top prospect about to enter the NHL...
what? you think if the Flyers didn't draft him he wouldn't have been drafted? He will play in the NHL. I fully expect him to be a top young star in this league in 3-4 years, as everyone does but you apparantly |

I don't know what MSLLD is, but I do know I wasn't the weirdo who got triggered by losing an argument badly, and brought up politics when we were discussing hockey. |

The question is did Cutter put the Flyers in a bad position or did the ineptitude of the front office do it. I still cant get over the fact the kid said when he was drafted he was born to be a Flyer. I dont think he changed his mind on a whim they screwed something up.
Something did indeed change. The Flyers wanted to see if he could play the center position. Not much has been publicized about this wrinkle, but all the talk after this debacle is about him playing wing.
This is an unfortunate, complicated happenstance. Gauthier, I think, is going to be really good. And ppl will criticize this deal forever. But, he is also a bit of a prima donna.
It's hard to coach when you can't get people to play where you want them to play. Why is Laughton so well regarded? Cates? Even Sanheim now. They play where they are asked to play without complaining or pushing back. This isn't just a Torts thing. Laughton is well regarded around the league. Sanheim is starting to get some credit for his play given the minutes he was putting up and how he often has different partners due to playing 7 d men. Is hard to push buttons when the button doesn't want to be pushed.
So Butter Gauthier will be really good, but he could be great. Will he want to play a puck pressure system? Any success this team is having is due to the pace they play with. It's why Hayes isn't here.

Any team should put their players in a position to maximize their talents. Would CG be better off as a center or at wing? I don’t agree with trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. If Cuttef got upset because he couldn’t burn a year then his born to be a flyer exclamation was fake.
Would the flyers have been penalized for cap overages after paying bonuses and then signing CG?
I don’t know if that was the case that had to be well explained to CG’s agent.
The flyers should have also done everything they could have to get him signed within reason.

I have not seen any reports from legitimate sources that Gauthier wanted a guaranteed roster spot. How would that work anyway? It can't be part of the contract and one signed, the Flyers can do within their rights and handle the players as they see fit. I don't agree with how Gauthier handled the situation but there is no doubt that the Flyers screwed up. Yes, in the Flyers situation, they absolutely should've "bent over backwards" and signed the play in March of 2023. If they had, he'd be a Flyer today. It's not all on Gauthier.

I doubt he will be really playing the 4th line or 4th line minutes. I don’t see that contract aging well.
Fletch the gift the keeps on giving. |
