Flyers gotta Flyer.

Edit: Even 2.5 mil is an overpay. Is there seriously no one cheap on the Phantoms who can block shots?

- Pelle31Forever

Literally the best in the league at it right now…
It's mind boggling. There has to be someone in LHV making 800k who can do what he can.
- Pelle31Forever

If we had guys in the AHL who could do what Seeler can already do, I guarantee they’d already be here. If they had these guys the Flyers don’t trade for Drysdale and we don’t sign Staal. Louie Belpedio had a pretty long look.

8 year extension has just begun and the captain is centering L4?

Yeah, that’s not worrying…

- BiggE

My understanding is that a banged up warier decided to stay in the battle in the reduced role. If that's the case- I commend him for that.

Oh .. so you think the Flyers should have let him burn 1 year of his ELC so he can play a couple of meaningless games at the end of last season?? Get freak'n real! Who the hell is Quitter to dictate terms? Like I said, he should thank his lucky stars to even get a chance in the NHL. Now he can have fun playing for of the least relevant teams in the league.
- jd250

100% yes, they should've. It was stupid not to.

I hope that’s the case and that next season he’s able to look more like his pre surgeries self.

That being said, age and history of players with bad backs are not on his side.

Why is Quitter an elite prospect, because he was drafted 5 overall in a weak draft? Like I said previously, I think the timing of when Fletcher was fired played into things and Quitter should have been more patient. He is still unsigned right now, so what did leaving the Flyers accomplish? Quitter could have signed his ELC with the Flyers last May and been playing for them right now. So what did the Flyers really do to him? He did it to himself. He got bad advice from greedy people around him.
- jd250

You're so full of it. If Gauthier was still Flyers property, he would be an elite prospect in your view.

Gauthier is currently playing NCAA hockey! He can't sign until his college season is over.

The question is did Cutter put the Flyers in a bad position or did the ineptitude of the front office do it. I still cant get over the fact the kid said when he was drafted he was born to be a Flyer. I dont think he changed his mind on a whim they screwed something up.

Something did indeed change. The Flyers wanted to see if he could play the center position. Not much has been publicized about this wrinkle, but all the talk after this debacle is about him playing wing.

This is an unfortunate, complicated happenstance. Gauthier, I think, is going to be really good. And ppl will criticize this deal forever. But, he is also a bit of a prima donna.
It's hard to coach when you can't get people to play where you want them to play. Why is Laughton so well regarded? Cates? Even Sanheim now. They play where they are asked to play without complaining or pushing back. This isn't just a Torts thing. Laughton is well regarded around the league. Sanheim is starting to get some credit for his play given the minutes he was putting up and how he often has different partners due to playing 7 d men. Is hard to push buttons when the button doesn't want to be pushed.
So Butter Gauthier will be really good, but he could be great. Will he want to play a puck pressure system? Any success this team is having is due to the pace they play with. It's why Hayes isn't here.

- BluehorseShoe64

There is zero information that points to Gauthier not being willing to play the position his team wants him to. Reports are that the Flyers wanted him to play center in college. He's been playing center.

Someone needs to get in his grill. He's like Malkin in that you can piss him off and get him off his game. Otherwise, yeah, he will destroy them again like he did the last time Tampon Bay was in town.

My opinion is that it STARTS with either both 2024 1sts or a 1st plus Michkov. Then you can add on from there.

The first point is that Pettersson is an RFA, not a UFA so all Vancouver has to do is make him a Q offer and he is theirs for another season.

Is Bobby Brink been miracally cured now, the way Cam York was in the AHL. The 11 games Brink played with the Phantoms was all that was needed.

I have not seen any reports from legitimate sources that Gauthier wanted a guaranteed roster spot. How would that work anyway? It can't be part of the contract and one signed, the Flyers can do within their rights and handle the players as they see fit. I don't agree with how Gauthier handled the situation but there is no doubt that the Flyers screwed up. Yes, in the Flyers situation, they absolutely should've "bent over backwards" and signed the play in March of 2023. If they had, he'd be a Flyer today. It's not all on Gauthier.
- MJL

What did Gauthier really get out of all this? He still didn’t get signed when he wanted to be.

He passed test number 1. Test 2 is getting in Tortorella’s face while he is yanked around the lineup willy nilly again.

Makes no sense. Why would you make that trade if you are giving up MM. You would be acquiring this center to play with MM.
