I’m unsure how the second part relates to the first part. |

I've seen enough to finally make an opinion on the Leafs, this season. When they were doing terribly, I wanted to see this team torn down and stepping back for a year and rebuilding our draft capital. Lately, however, I've changed my mind about this team. Comparing it to last year's team, I think that this is a much better overall team, than the one that finished 2nd in the division last season.
What makes me say this, is looking at our bottom 6. Many people on here thought that getting Domi and letting Kerfoot go was a mistake. Looking at these two players and I can logically say, Domi is a gamer. He has jam that Kerfoot never had. Their numbers are close, but I'd rather go to war with Domi, than Kerfoot.
I also didn't like that we allowed players like Ryan O'Reilly and Luke Schenn get away. Although they would have been great to have, their contracts were overrated. After Kyle Dubas left, many thought that this team would crash and burn. Dubas made the Penguins crash and burn and a major rebuild will soon be coming to the Penguins. The Leafs look more playoff ready than any team that Dubas ever built.
Looking at the bottom 6 that Dubas had, and looking at Treliving's bottom 6, it's night and day. This year's bottom 6 are large and have the ability to hem in an opponent with their willingness to forecheck. Many dumped on Mein Kampf, but when he was out of the lineup the team suffered. His penalty killing and faceoff abilities, make him valuable on the 4th line. Homberg has filled a roll as a big body, with board controlling ability that makes this line difficult. Adding Ryan Reaves also makes the team 2" taller out there.
The top 3 lines are formidable with the Matthews/Knies/Marner at the top and the second and third lines bring offense and pressure on the opposition defense. The agile and quick Rangers defense had issues with the forecheck on Saturday night. The Leafs forward lines are one of the top 5 offenses in the NHL.
The only issue with this team is on the defense. A top 4 right handed defenseman is something that could really solidify this defensive team. I worry about a player like Tim Lilijgren being able to hold up throughout a long playoff run. They Leafs have an average defensive core, but the forwards cover up a lot of the defensive liabilities.
The Leafs goaltending is above average. They're much better than last year and the depth is deep. Watching Samsonov play lights out for the last little while and Woll is the heir apparent going forward. If the Leafs can line up against the Bruins in round 1, they have a very good chance of getting through to round 2. It's a crap shoot after that, with the Panthers probably being there and then we'll see what this team is made of. I like this team the way Treliving has built it. It sure beats the soft as pudding teams that Kyle Dubas has produced over his time in Toronto. Debate? |

Robertson sent down? I guess no surprise, but I thought some said there was no way. - jribout
He had to go down because he is exempt to be claimed. They need bodies to traded this week not to lose on the waiver wire |

Quite outstanding. Prince played 7 instruments fluently and could barely read a lick of music lol - LordHumungous
I have always been a big fan, but I have to admit, I did not know that he could not read music. The guy was a rare talent for sure. |

A lot of musicians can’t/couldn’t read music - Dylan, Clapton, the Beatles, etc. They generally learned to play by listening to records over and over and trying to replicate what they heard. |

Actual science is a mystery to many. Snow happening in the Tahoe region is not that unusual. Great skiing spot. 5 to 10 feet within 3 days coupled with two tornadoes is extreme. On the brighter side of science some interesting discoveries of new species off the coast of Chile. This little guy is pretty cool

Meh. He's also a 21 year old who was supposed to never have a shot. Give him some time. The hype is more silly than useful. |

I know he is trying to carve himself a place in the NHL, probably the only chance he will ever get and he is willing to do anything for it. Someone has to talk sense into him, he won't last long doing that. |

And reaves is good at hockey? We had him and he was a total BUST in the playoffs! You guys have benched him at times also. He’s been living off his reputation for a long time there’s a much better chance Rempe plays in the playoffs than reaves because he may not be as good of a fighter as reaves but he’s a much better HOCKEY player! - Bobd62
so no extra discipline by DOPS for Rempe on the hit to Lyubushkin |
