Great night for the Flyers without playing...

Coyotes (yes the YOTES) beat Washington
Kings beat the Devils
Edmonton beating the Penguins 6-0 as I post this.

They need to help themselves by beating St Louis tonight. Hopefully there’s some momentum after that win Saturday.

We have a playoff race and for the next 4 days trade deadline chatter, which will make for an exciting week. Even if this years TDL for the Flyers craps out like last years (no takers for JVR lol), we can at least speculate, argue, hopefully civilly debate, and either cheer or complain come Friday after 3:00. As the Late Great Gene Hart would’ve said, “Fasten your seatbelts, my friends.”

And speaking of Gene, here’s a blast from the past, courtesy of Bill from 10 years ago! Thanks for this Bill.

It’s pretty clear there will be no full-blown rebuild.
With that said, any interest at all in trading for Linus Ullmark? Turns 31 this summer, has one year left after this season at $5M cap hit. I’ve seen reports saying that Boston has some level of interest in Laughton, Walker, & Seeler. I’m not gonna bother proposing a specific deal. But would you have any interest if one of, or some combo of those 3 players were the only truly valuable assets the Flyers sent back? Or does Ullmark, and his contract status simply not fit?
- Big_E_88

The Flyers are rebuilding, there is nothing ambiguous about this at this time except in the imagination of some of you. The Bruins are finally considering trading Ullmark but they are not doing it for a defenseman, they are looking for a 1C.

I want nothing to do with 30 year olds, even the ones on my team...

Totorella deserves full marks for the team's greatly improved structure. He has also had some missteps. No coach is perfect.
- bmeltzer

Given the Bruins and Vancouver have taken a step back recently and the Flyers still have a better than 50% of making the playoffs, at least for now before the deadline, is it time to really consider Torts as the Jack Adams front runner?

I can just imagine this place if the Flyers do absolutely nothing this week. Or even worse...they add a player or two between now and Friday. LMAO! The whining will be EPIC!!

They are not adding any player unless there is a mega deal where they are giving up a player like Farabee or Frost with Walker for a young player with a high ceiling like Drysdale. I do expect at a minimum that Seeler will be traded given his apparent salary demands, and Walker is 50/50 depending on if the Flyers can extend him at their price. I think there is a small chance of a bigger deal along the lines I mentioned above.

I guess you didn't see Torts' presser after the game the other night? He singled out Seeler as the type of play that you DON'T trade.

Might be a saving grace for this organization to keep them from actually spending it on new contracts.
- MJL

It is a sad commentary but this is so true. The dead cap space will also serve as a reminder that they suck at valuing players and contracts. Crazy part of it is that it does not even matter who the GM is because the soul of this team is embedded in the dinosaurs of the 1970s....

give it a rest as no one gives a schitt if he does or doesn't win it.

Between this and your frost nonsense it is very very boring.

Yes .. of course he is going to say this? What else do you expect Torts to say? That "Well Seeler's salary demands are too high and we cannot let him walk away for nothing so we are trying to trade him as fast as possible and will take anything for him?"

Again, when you have players that are still young and fit your system, of course you will want to extend them if the term and price is right. What you and others don't understand is that a rebuild does not mean everyone on the team has to be 21 years old.

I give a $hit if Torts wins it. Mainly because I'd love to see the reaction of the resident Torts hater on here.

Of course he did, he loves Seeler. Seeler is a hockey player in the Torts mold and I am sure Torts would love to keep him on this team. However, if Seeler is asking for north of $3M and 4 years, that just is not going to work. I expect either Walker or Seeler to be traded, and the other resigned, I think this has the highest probability of happening.

I'd favor Walker being moved if it's between the two of them. I just think he would bring the bigger return. I'm not sure that Seeler by himself would bring back more than a 3rd round pick. I would think Walker would fetch at least a second rounder and perhaps a first if a bidding war ensues.

Agreed, Walker is the better player. I think this will come down to the wire given Hanifan is probably team's next target before Walker.

Also the Flyers left sided defense depth is awful. I don’t think much of Zamula and there is nothing after Andrae currently in the system.

Really? I think Zamula is having a string year of development, and is looking better and better as the season has gone along.

The Philadelphia Flyers today announced the club has signed forward Denver Barkey to a three-year entry-level contract beginning with the 2024-25 season, according to General Manager Daniel Briere.

Barkey, 18 (4/27/05), owns 87 points (31-56=87), five power-play goals, seven shorthanded goals and three game-winning goals in 56 games with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) this season.

Good for Barkey! Rizzo still not signed. I have a sinking feeling he may want to test free agency instead of signing.
