Granted Rizzo is 22 years playing against 19 year olds, but given the Flyers lack of depth at center, I would the Flyers to give him a shot. He looked good in the live game I saw play earlier this season and is having a strong year. - jd250
All true. I hope we found a gem, but I dont have my hopes up.

It still matters for context and as a starting point for evaluation. IMO he is an AHL/NHL tweener like Peter White. Sure, we need all the center prospects we can find so I hope he DOES sign. But I'm not going to lose sleep over a middling prospect putting up decent numbers as an older player in the NCAA. - MBFlyerfan
disagree as it means nothing. Clearly he has progressed.
look at JOB 1st rd pick. he stinks
not disagree he may never be more than an tweener. flyers need to find out. flyer sneed to cut bait with all the ahl players they have drafted that are not nhl possible as well. |

A legit number 1 talent on his 3rds team and only 25? Something is not right here. I would pass. - jd250
It does matter the first two teams…Arizona and now Ottawa. He didn’t want to be in Arizona and they traded him to Ottawa. The Sens have other solid young D and with Chychrun’s contract coming and probably 7.5 x 8 he could be had. Sometimes a little context is needed.
I think he 100% the type of player I go after. |

Debatable in the context that he is an older player. More mature physically perhaps.
I truly hope you are right and I am wrong. |

there are a lot of older players in college. Also the age thing isn't that huge of a deal to me. Talent trumps age.
Though yes the mature physically plays a part and cant ignore it.
No right or wrong as the player holds the cards. He walks not much the flyers can do (though you and others may disagree it doesn't look good). Now if the flyers said they don't want to sign him then that would be a tad baffling to me. |

for some not all. every team has the whipping boy. he has been fine in his role. when you expect more and there is not more to give is when peeps get crazy. |

The Flyers are rebuilding, there is nothing ambiguous about this at this time except in the imagination of some of you. The Bruins are finally considering trading Ullmark but they are not doing it for a defenseman, they are looking for a 1C. - jd250
Yes, there is plenty that is ambiguous at this point in time. As to this point there is no clear distinction of what the Flyers are going to do. You're being disingenuous by stating that. The Bruins certainly would be looking for a 1C but they're not going to be able to trade Ullmark for that.

Given the Bruins and Vancouver have taken a step back recently and the Flyers still have a better than 50% of making the playoffs, at least for now before the deadline, is it time to really consider Torts as the Jack Adams front runner? - jd250
No, not even close.

No, not even close. - MJL How can you say not even close? It's a known fact by folks that are much more in tune than you are that it's basically between Toccs and Torts. Your biases never waver! I'll give you that much.

What's going to be priceless and hysterical is when he doesn't win it, you'll announce him as the fantasy hands down winner for the 2nd year in a row.

That is why I say these awards are popularity contest. If the award is to define the best coaching job, why does the team have to be a President's trophy candidate? It makes no sense. - jd250
The coach of the team who wins the Presidents trophy has done the best job. It's not a popularity contest. It's also not a homer and hero worship contest.

Coaches like Tocchet, Montgomery and Maurice are favorites. Tortorella will get some votes and very well could be a top finalist. However he won't be close to winning it. I have no bias. Only an accurate analysis absent of homerism.

The jury would deliberate for about 3.5 seconds to come back with that verdict.

Doesn’t this season kind of validate him being the whipping boy in the past? Everyone thought he was weak. He goes into the off-season and puts on weight, gets stronger, and now he’s been really solid. |

I think he will be more expensive than that. I would rather just buy Hanifin as a UFA since he will be cheaper and then use the trade assets to move up in the draft and go after someone like Buium. |

LOL, the Bruins are 4th in the league in points percentage after having lost their top 2 centers from last season.

I have no doubt Torts will be a finalist if the Flyers make the playoffs.
