this sounds like a "pole barn" i worked on michigan. it was suppose to be for the owner's toys. boats, ATV, jetskis, etc. it exceeded the square footage allowed so by code it had to have living quarters above the garage.

Full kitchen, room for 4 vehicles easily, and a batting cage on the one side.
