The Noah Hanifin deal may help us. Vegas loading up may make some teams feel like they need Jake to compete and they may increase their bid for him. |

Fire him down to Zona..they're gonna need to get to the cap floor. Even Calgary might want a player with term as it seems they have a hard time keeping players... Plus they've shipped out a chunk of their D core already this last week. - MattStrat
Sending him to CAL is exactly what I suggested a few days ago haha. |

This is a good point. An arms race should be good for us.

This is one of those suggested pages on my Facebook due to my Penguins heavy algorithm haha I don't think this is a good source by any means but has anyone heard anything like this?... I find if I don't see it elsewhere most things Penguins related get mention around here.

Yes. Seravalli reported today that he believes Sid will sign extension minutes after July 1 kicks off. Friedman reported similar a couple weeks ago saying it wouldn’t surprise him if the deal is already agreed upon. |

If Guentzel, Rust, Smith, and Pettersson are gone, They could even pay Sid more money to be on a rebuilding team. No need to worry about spending up to the cap ceiling |

Makes sense really. How many FAs would not want to sign if they didn't know Crosby was locked into the team?

I agree with Vic. Trading one of the leagues top scorers to get younger isn't a great strategy. They probably don't pull in as good a prospect as people hope for a rental.
I would wonder if maybe the real issue is Dubas doesn't want to get top heavy like he did in Toronto.
Confused now on if the real story is Jake didn't want to sign or Pens didn't make a "serious" offer. Seems like both sides leaking conflicting information. So I'm not going to throw fault either way. Wish we extended him, but doubtful. |

If they didn’t already have a plethora of players locked up into their late 30’s, I’d be all about keeping Jake. But they’ve rode this horse into the ground and gotta do something.
I’d rather see rust, smith, graves, rak moved but here we are. Jake will get 8+ and I don’t know how they can fill a roster with another big contract.

Don't replace Smith with another 5M player, instead use a younger, cheaper middle six type. Then you have Carter and cap raising money. So they can fit that raise if they want to.
I think a lot of the bottom six will be guys like DOC, Puustinen, Puljujarvi, Poulin, Accairi, Nieto, maybe Bennstrom if he's brought back, maybe Yager. So probably going younger and cheaper there. There actually aren't a lot of bottom six spots open until you start waiving guys. |

TIOPS reporting that we were close to deal with Vegas then I guess around 4pm talks broke down and they went in a different direction and jumped out of the race for Jake. Florida and Edmonton believed the asking price was too high so they went elsewhere. Worry is with other forwards becoming available we won't get top asking price nor will we have leverage....he should have stoppwd being greedy and just traded him for any solid offer no one was going to pay multiple picks and prospects for a rental. |

Guentzel update: Not definitive, but sounds like teams in mix are CAR, FLA, NYR, VAN and VGK.
Unless something changes, belief is FLA + VAN have made strong push but don’t have goods to pull it off.
Of note: VGK could potentially create more cap room if Martinez goes on LTIR.

Might feel better if the rumor was "Penguins will wait until the last minute to cut a Jake deal". That way all of us are chill until Friday morning. |

Sure but if seems clear he's the best asset out there and the one that will push you to get a Cup more than anything else you settle on... enter Jim Rutherford.
Blame the Rams for the Frack Them Picks attitude but it got them a SB. Jerry Jones would sacrifice 20 more years of drought to ge a SB this coming season. Gotta have NLH teams in the same position.
Being the only Cup winner in Vancouver history (Canucks history) would be a crowning achievement. |

If they can’t move him they will be forced to make an offer he can’t refuse. Then they’ll have no cap for anything else. |

Yeah but most of those guys suck to begin with and nieto and Acari are overpaid. |

Well, what do you expect to get in FA? Probably overpay a couple people that are worse than Jake Guentzel. There isn't actually a great path towards getting better talent.
I realize they need change. But Sid-Jake is the best part of the team, so I don't see how they come out better trading him than signing him. |
