I've been digging around the Rangers boards/twitter and they are very divided about giving up Kakko because of the lack of depth they have at RW.
The top prospects they mention are Othmann and Perreault.
Someone proposed the trade as:
Othmann/Perreault
Kakko
2025 1st Round Pick (Rangers owner doesnt want to trade 2024 1st round pick)
for
Jake (50% retained)
Most Rangers fans said no to that deal because its too much. I have to think thats the framework Dubas is looking for. Maybe the prospect drops to Sykora or something. - SuperHenderson13
No way the Rangers are trading away those assets for a rental...would be assinine..just trade a 1st and get Vatrano |
|
|
|
I cant imagine any scenario under which the Rangers would do that. Perreault is a stud, would love to get him. Kakko I am not so sure of but would be cool with giving him a shot, 2025 draft pick is fine with me since we hopefully won't have ours next season. - MacPatty
They wont...some of these trade scenarios are pipedreams. this is a rental we are talking about. Think Pen fans are going to be very disappointed on the return after seeing some of these proposals. |

Granlund's contract does not expire this year, he has another year same as Petry. - MickV

There's a few of us that think some people are getting ahead of themselves and will indeed be disappointed in the return. I think Dubas will end up playing chicken too long and end up just getting a 1st and 3rd haha...Or a 1st and fringe NHLer young guy.

Yeah I’m thinking a first and prospect maybe a bad contract off the books at best. |

It is very likely he will be dealt by the end of the day today.

He was always looking for fringe NHLer's because they are further along in their development than picks.

Yeah had he not made that deal granlund would be expiring.
Ruuta was better than graves and 1 yr left of petry and still Ken a first……the team would still be out of the playoffs but the 11m for ek sucks. - sammy87
Yes, totally agree. I'd rather have granlund and ruuta then EK and his 3 years at 10 million..Yikes..Granlund has 9 g at 5 mil and another year left on his contract. |

Acquiring EK is not the reason they are trading Guentzel. They have the money to resign him with Carter and Ned coming off the books.
And no I don't care for the bottom 6 but they are better than last year. The Pens are in the position they are in because of their PP. The PP has cost them 8-10 games, whether it's giving up shorties, giving up goals right after a penalty kill, not scoring in a late PP opportunity to take the lead, or just going 0/7 or 1/8 and losing. |

So many f'n 1 goal loses(or 2 with an EN'er against) this season the PP went O for something in. Its insane.

Another PP person for the penguins problems? Rust and guentel would definitely improve the PP. Anything would at this point even granlund.
They brought EK and his 8 goals and 10 mil a year for this purpose to improve the PP..NO? I bet IF EK wasn't bought here the penguins (not with sullivan though) would have alot different PP to choose from among players. Either that or lets face it the penguins are old and dubas made them older with the bottom crud 6 players.
Dubas messed up and now is looiking to move sids winger because of EK"S 10 mil. |

Who said it would be? His current contract is 6m. Carter's contract is 3m. They could offer Jake 9-9.5m per year.
Math is hard.

Man he's in his first season with brand new system being asked to play much more defensively, is having arguably his best defensive season and still in the 60-70 point range with the majority of it being even strength production. He's playing like an 8 mill defenseman, basically. Last season he played like a 12 mill one.

Plus, isn't the cap also due to increase for next season? Or has that changed?
I'm not making guarantees either way, but I'm not convinced it's impossible that they keep and sign Guentzel. Despite what all the talking heads say.

1st..Jones..and maybe a prospect like Sykora..at the very most. Which would be a VG deal for Pens Real problem is Jake's a LW...That's the last position Rangers need a player |
|
|
|
Totally agree like I said I think Laf is the much better player but keep in mind like you said in the earlier post… we are starting with a insulting level trade with Lafreniere included… in no way can switching Kakko for Laf make it go from insulating to average. A top 15 prospect in the NHL, a 1st and a 23 year old NHL player that’s had a 40 point season is a TON in return. It’s talked about in here DOC has potential turning 26 and they have had similar seasons with DOC having a much bigger opportunity this season. - pens4life-66
Laf is not being moved at all. He’s actually a top 6 fwd at this point. GP is off the table for sure.
Kakko can probably be had. He’s a bust for where he was drafted but a very productive 3rd line player. Beard or Sykora could be had. Potentially Othman as well. The fact Jake is a rental I think the return is less than most think.

I agree they will have the cap space where they could make it work, but its not so simple as Jake + Carter = what you can spend on Jake. Sure, if you want everything below the top line to suck even worse than it did this season you can but that is $9M available to fill TWO roster spots, not one.
