Jake re-signing would be unimaginable. The trade itself could greatly impact the future and if we turn around and sign him in FA would be unbelievable. We’d have to erect a statue lol.

I don't think Jake re-signing is completely out of the question. In fact, I think that we will be on him very heavily. I don't expect Jake to sign any hometown discount but I'd pay him an extra $1M per season (for only 7 years now) if it means we get a 1st and a top prospect. He is worth more to me after he has been traded.

Well Edmonton, Vegas & Florida have already started to move. I wonder if Dubas "deadline" proclamation is going to end up burning him. The other sellers are just getting their deals done.

Who is going to take Smith now? If I am Dubas I am calling up Vegas and offering them:

Smith (1/2 retained) & a conditional 2025 2nd rounder for their first rounder. The condition is if Vegas makes the cup in either 2024 or 2025 the 2nd becomes a 4th. If they win the cup in either year they do not receive a pick.

According to a report on here recently, don't remember who or even if I'm right. The main teams in on Jake were, Florida, Carolina, Dallas, Vancouver, Vegas, and Edmonton.

With Florida and Vegas making trades recently, not counting them out but for the sake of argument let's do that. Now this report having Vancouver on the outside looking in and Carolina being the next card to drop.

This leaves Edmonton or Dallas as the likely team that made the offer good enough for Dubas to put a clock on the deal making.

Carolina definitely has the best pool of assets but I feel like they would be the least willing to depart with them.

Im cool trading him to the Rangers, but need to make they pay a premium.

Vancouver is most willing to pay the price but maybe are a bit light in assets.

Vegas could still get it done for sure. I think with them there would be opportunity to tie the return to their success. Add an extra first if they win a cup or something.
