He was a fine pickup and is a fine 3rd liner. But giving him 2nd line minutes and a 7 year deal is bad. - eichiefs9
Lou is just bad with contracts. You have to pay Barzal and Bo. These others contracts like Pierre and Mayfield were just brutal. Lou was only tough with Robin’s contract offer. |

Shutout in last two games. Not really the kinda result you want when you’re fighting for the wild card. Hopefully they get their act together. If they fail to make the playoffs, does Lou get the boot?? |

Chief likes him as a 3rd line player.
Just another bottom 6 player the Islanders thought they could make a top 6 player. |

I don't know. Is he a third liner by default since he's just not good enough to be a top six guy? I guess the question is, what qualities do you want from a third line player and then what is the appropriate price?
I don't think he's particularly good at any one thing. He's got a long enough stride that he can pressure defenders on the forecheck for loose pucks, but he can't finish it physically. He seems to telegraph everything he does with the puck. He seemingly brings zero passion.
So low energy. Not physical. Poor puck skills....that's not what I want in a third line player

Exactly! Pierre is a long line of players the Islanders hoped can be top 6 players when they are clearly not top 6. The focus has been on bottom 6 players instead of top 6 players for the longest time and this is why the Islanders are a middle of the pack team. |

I think he's good enough offensively to chip in some points playing 3rd line minutes and, depending on the team, 2nd PP unit. I don't love him at all, but I wouldn't classify him as a 4th line guy or worse. |

Pierre did show something on the 2nd line last year in a small sample size. He could have been looking to get paid though and he probably knew Lou gives out 7-year contracts like candy.

Forget about production the guy couldn’t make it as a 4th line player irregardless. He’s exactly what you don’t want on the 4th line. I’m with Keaner production not withstanding I don’t want him on our third line either. Guy avoids contact like every opposing player has leprosy. I don’t think I’ve seen a player with a less intimidating shot, he just kind of sucks all the way around besides speed. |

Good for him. That little blip on his career earned him a seven year contract. Bad for us. |

Patrick needs to sit him next game. I do not care if they need to call Ruslan from Bridge. Patrick needs to send a message you cannot get shutout twice in a row when in a playoff race. |

Exactly! Does not take much for Lou to give out 7-year contracts.

Lou does like his long-term contracts. I agree with the general consensus about Engvall. He does bring speed to a fairly slow team. Beyond that he doesn't show a whole lot. It's easy to see why he was a depth player on the Leafs.
I missed most of the game, but I did see the 3rd period. I'm going to disagree a little with those who thought Lee was wrong to fight Clifton. I thought it was good to see Lee stick up for a teammate, especially in a game that was all but lost already. Also, I think it might be the first time I ever saw Lee win a fight. For us Islander fans, it was the highlight of the game (certainly the 3rd period anyway). |

Bottom line Lou has to go. He does not understand how to build a team in 2024. It's about speed and skill and not about a team with a bunch of 3rd and 4th line players.
I did not see the game. I'm pretty much done with fighting at this point. I think it is good to stick up for a teammate though. You then have the argument should you fight if it was a clean hit? I think the NHL and player safety is better off to end fighting and especially with CTE. |

Ending fighting won't end CTE. Football players get CTE, too, and that's just from hard hits, not fighting.
There are always going to be borderline dirty hits in hockey that might not technically be considered illegal. You don't want players taking liberties with your teammates, so if you have an opportunity to discourage them, I say go for it. Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting that hockey return to the 1970s, the Slapshot days...........although the bench-clearing brawls were kind of fun. But eliminating ALL fighting from hockey doesn't seem realistic. |
