You don't know this for sure yet. Gauthier may turn out to be a great player, but he could also turn out to be Nolan Patrick. I would rather Gauthier be playing for the Flyers this year as Briere wanted versus Gauthier taking a hissy-fit and getting traded, but Drysdale has a chance to be a very good player in this league, presuming he can learn to stay healthy which is a big IF.

They traded for an injury prone player and he’s injured already right? Do you not see a trend here?

Skinny or buff, Sanheim almost never misses games. He's played 347 out of 352 in the past five seasons, and I think two of the five he missed were due to Covid, and one was a healthy scratch in Calgary.

I agree on Walker's development. I hope they find another Walker next year and do the same thing. Always a group of players looking for a change that have a low acquisition cost.

This is spooky...

Hextall signed Nick Schultz for 1 x $1.25m as a UFA on 7/2/14, one of his first signings as Flyers GM. Schultz was about to be 32 and was coming off a poor season where Edmonton traded him to CBJ for a 5th round pick. But he had a strong 14-15 season as a defensive #4/5, leading the Flyers in blocks with 166. Next best was MDZ with 128.

https://www.nhl.com/stats...dShots&page=0&pageSize=50

This earned him a 2 x $2.25m extension, signed on 2/20/15, a couple weeks before the deadline. Unfortunately, an aging Schultz struggled to maintain the level of play from his contract season, and in the final year he only played 28 games. Btw, an AAV of $2.25m in 2015 would be $2.72m under the current cap.

Seeler currently leads the Flyers with 184 blocks. York is next best with 124.

How much is Seeler's play going to fall off now that he won't be partnered with Walker.

We received a 1st round pick because we took Johansen as part of the deal.

What do we have to lose by playing Johansen the rest of the year? He currently ranks tied for 5th in goals on the Flyers and if he can help with faceoffs...

I have to believe that a strong locker room wouldn't allow one new player to come in and disrupt it.

Weird fact. I attended three of the five games in which Mikhail Vorobyov recorded a point for the Flyers. Only one was in Philly. He played in 32 other games and only recorded 2 more points.

When you see that the relatively useless Edmundsson got a 3rd and a 5th, it makes you wonder what a healthy Seeler could have got back. They could have always signed him on July 1st.

Why is Johansen being buried in the minors? Is he not a better option than some players who are playing?

locker room culture shows he has to prove himself if he wants to be in the NHL next year

Wasn’t he just a good player coming off a so so year due to an entire missed season of injury? I think this was more of a guy got healthy. Kudos to Danny for moving him though, this team shouldn’t be committing 5x5 or whatever his contract will be for any Dman currently. We have a bunch of young guys that need to show what they have.
- ClaudeFather

Agreed! I like walker and would have loved to keep him but not at 5 x 5. We already have old man seeler locked in.
If seeler keeps eating pucks the way that he does those last couple of years on that contract may be ugly

Agreed. But wouldn't a strong locker room culture force that player into being a good teammate? It's known that MacKinnon and Landeskog are pretty serious dudes. I'm sure that locker room is slightly different. Higher expectations from within?

I just think we should give him a chance. If he doesn't fit, send him down. He's an NHL center. 3rd line. Move Laughton to wing if he's not moved.

What if he realizes that this might be his last chance to stay in the league? Even if he has to be reunited with Torts.

People singing Briere’s praises because previous regimes were completely incompetent. So the bar is low. Regardless of the situation surrounding Gauthier, this will be a trade that sets the franchise back.

As far as tonight’s game…. Get Attard and Ginning out there as much as you can so they can eat Tkachuk, Reinhart, and Barkov alive.

Are you familiar with his injury history? I'm concerned. That hit that injured him really wasn't that brutal. I see hits like that all the time in games, but it was probably a season ender for him. Yes, I'm concerned that one so young seems to get banged up so easily.

I do see a trend, but Drysdale is still very young. I have seen many players his age get injured earlier in their careers, but as they got bigger, stronger, and developed better nutritional and work-out habits, go on to have long and healthy careers. It's just too early to label Drysdale as injury prone.

He had his head down in the neutral zone, not the first player to pay the price for this mistake. I agree that so far it's very concerning but there is still a good chance he gets stronger and smarter as he develops.

I mentioned yesterday before the signing that I would not go beyond two years for Seeler, that doing so did not make sense to me. Well, apparently it did not make sense to the Flyers either, since Seeler's NMC is only for the first two years. After that, at $2.7M, Seeler will be easy to move or bury if need be.

The Flyers are hoping Johansen clears waivers. His slow motion shootout success will be valuable in getting them to the playoffs.

This was my feeling too. He seemed pretty adamant about wanting to stay in Philly so he’d probably have been interested in re-signing. Always a risk he gets overpaid in FA but at that point you’re better off staying away. I don’t love 4 years for his deal, 2 would have been better. I’d still have traded him regardless.

Have to agree but it’s only been a “strong room” for this season, so they may not want to mess with it. Just curious with these situations, like Kuznetsov in Hershey, if these guys are so bad why put them around your younger players in the AHL?
