That’s not really fair. The Johnson trade makes 0 sense. Otherwise, they did well with the Walker trade, Seeler is meh and not worth jumping off a clifff over, and the swapping of Allison is probably best for everyone. The thing that will let me sleep tonight is what they didn’t do: trade youth for vets. They lost a fourth. Sucks, but I can sleep happy still after that Walker deal. Let’s see what they do this summer. That will be more telling. - coffee junkie
People here complain about getting a first round pick in the twenties…. and the chances of getting a good player there. Then worry about trading a fourth. It’s literally insanity how people use whatever to fill their narrative.
Btw, I’m not referring to you, just responding to your post. |

Getting a first out of Walker is nice. I will give that, but they also took on a contract that extends past this year, at a large enough price to replace a third liner. The refusal to play Johansen makes his salary a liabilty and the contract is on the books. How many are we at now? 50? For his salary & the Flyers holes at center, etc, etc, he should at least get a game or 2 in to see if he can play better than ND.
I wanted Allison on the 3rd/ 4th line, not in the AHL..probably better for him, but is Garionov any kind of improvement? or just a sideways trade to accomidate moving Allison?I think he would have fit in well with Poehling and Hathaway. No big loss, but I think most of us were expecting more than what happened over the last few days.
There were big talks of firsts, seconds, young prospects etc..we got a contract, an AHLer, and a 6-7 dman at triple his current salary for almost the next half decade, NTC to boot. - TheFreak There were many folks on here that thought they were going to do nothing or even buy for the playoff run. Laughts can be traded in the off season if needed. Allison can't stay healthy, so who cares there. RYJO and Torts should kiss and makeup. |

Danny can speak for the other fans. Not me.
Whatever happens, happens, and I'm ok regardless. But to make moves just to "get in the playoffs". Nah, I'm not on board with that.
I'd of been perfectly fine with them doing nothing aside from the Walker trade. Run with what ya got and see where the chips fall. - Pelle31Forever What did they give up to help them in the playoffs?

Right now, with no reasonable legitimate chance to contend. This team is more committed to the playoffs then they are to the rebuild. They always have been and always will be. Nothing has happened for that to be proven to be false in my opinion. - MJL
What else were you looking for? Not being a jerk.
Seeler? Laughton? TK?
I truly think Laughton is gone at the draft.

Define "help."
They are no closer to beating Carolina now then they were before today.
Nobody in here is picking this team to the beat the Canes. NO ONE. |

A 4th rounder...big whoop! Perhaps the guy they traded Allison for can help? They really didn't get any help, but they didn't really give anything up either and that was my point. I would have liked to see them go out and get a backup goalie cause after Ersson they are pretty much $hit out of luck most likely.
No one in their right mind is gonna pick them to beat Carolina (especially with their additions), but we've been saying that this team can't do things this entire season and they keep proving us wrong. There was no way that I saw them winning that game last night, but... |

I'm looking for them to embrace and commit to the rebuild. A rebuilding team plays the kids. Play Zamula, Ginning and Attard. Plays Brink every game from here on out. Doesn't go out and get more veteran options for this coach, who favors them to a fault. Typical Flyers. One foot in and one foot out. |

I wanted a first round pick out of this deadline. And there still seems like a legitimate market in the offseason for Laughton. I’m not really unhappy.
I don’t really like the Seeler contract and I’m not sure what they do with Johanson now. |

signing seeler = fallling in love
signing poehlig = falling in love
not trading laughton = falling in love - hello it's me 2050
They signed Poehling for a couple more seasons at reasonable hit for what he's provided. You can nitpick the Seeler signing some based more on the term than the money, but it doesn't hurt their cap situation. Laughton is playing out the remainder of a deal he signed 3 years ago, soooo not sure why you included him here.

There’s really not much they could have done to improve the team to beat Carolina unless they sold youth and picks for big time vets.
Instead they got a first round pick and some depth to see if they can give themselves a chance. It’s not the true rebuild I had hoped for but at least the first is there.

Oh, stop belly aching! They have plenty of draft picks and the 4th that they spent today was to replace Seeler who has a broken foot. Anyone that has played the game knows that if you get hit on the outside of the skate like that it's vulcanized rubber on bone. The instep you can possibly handle, but not being hit there. I actually wish they would have gotten a backup goalie as well cause after Ersson they have nada. - Phillywhiteout
You can't read. I didn't say anything or complain about the 4th round pick. They don't need another washed up vet. They have plenty of kids who can fill in for Seeler. I can see you're going to pick up where you left off yesterday continuing to be a fool.

Based on last night's performance I would have liked to see the two kids get another shot and perhaps they will. Johnson is nothing more than an insurance policy with them being so shorthanded on the back end. Risto, Seeler, Drysdale and Walker out. Even with the two kids playing they only had 6 defenders. Seeler, Risto and Drysdale aren't coming back anytime soon most likely.

Fair enough, but it also falls in-line with the with what management has been saying for a while now that they weren't going to fall in love with guys and they need to think beyond this season, whether you want to call that a rebuilding mindset or not. - Sublime55

You're kidding yourself if you think Johnson is an insurance policy. The Flyers can now stop pretending they're rebuilding and focus on the playoffs. Their true goal. This coach will play the vets.
The same people who push how important playoff experience is for the kids. Criticize me for my opinion when I criticize the Flyers for their handling of the kids and not playing some.

With Ginning and Attard, it could depend on if they have already made a decision on if they will be in their long term plans. If they are not, I don’t have any issues not playing them. Granted, neither of them have played many NHL games, but it’s possible they have other plans. |

Explain the seeler and poehling extensions - corduroy I'm not him, but let me give it a shot. Poehling is fine and relatively young. Did you see the game last night? Who is he really holding back at this time? Guys like Atkinson and ND should be moved out of the lineup for younger guys. The Seeler deal should have been 3M AVV for 3 years. They gave him one year too many, but they can probably eat the last year of that contract if needed.
