This trade deadline doesn’t mean much one way or the other. Being close to being able to get into the playoffs you do that. DB really don’t give up anything. Could he have done more? Well sure but without trading some of the younger guys you weren’t going to get much.
I would have kept the 4th and kept Ginning or Attard in the lineup.
I’d send ND to Lehigh.
Keep Laughton in case you get in the playoffs then trade him in the offseason.
Keep your first rounders. Pickup a stable backup goalie.
If the old guard had their way DB would have traded the flyers first this year for Adam Oates as he is now. |

With Ginning and Attard, it could depend on if they have already made a decision on if they will be in their long term plans. If they are not, I don’t have any issues not playing them. Granted, neither of them have played many NHL games, but it’s possible they have other plans. - funmaster18
Why not take advantage of the opportunity and play them down the stretch. Give them a chance to change perception if that is the case. That is what a rebuilding team should.do.

Explain the seeler and poehling extensions - corduroy
Johnson and Staal are gone in the offseason. I guess the bigger question is who are these guys blocking?
Seems like Ginning is being sent down, which sucks, but who exactly is Poehling blocking? Lycksell? Brink? I could think of guys that should be out of the lineup over Poehling. |

Just read that Ullmark denied a trade due to "geography."
Guess he wanted no part of the run-and-gun Oilers... not to mention "it's like the North Pole." |

You're kidding yourself if you think Johnson is an insurance policy. The Flyers can now stop pretending they're rebuilding and focus on the playoffs. Their true goal. This coach will play the vets.
The same people who push how important playoff experience is for the kids. Criticize me for my opinion when I criticize the Flyers for their handling of the kids and not playing some. - MJL I don't know why I would be kidding myself about Johnson being an insurance policy. After ginning and Attard I guess you have Andrae, but they are very short on defense and none of those guys are coming back soon (IMO). I think anyone (Brink) should be playing in place of Atkinson and ND at this point. Atkinson is cooked and ND is redundant with Hathaway in the lineup.

Right now, with no reasonable legitimate chance to contend. This team is more committed to the playoffs then they are to the rebuild. They always have been and always will be. Nothing has happened for that to be proven to be false in my opinion. - MJL

IMO, this is a balance they are willing to strike. Gained some assets, sent a UFA off, focus on plan for draft and offseason and give the team the best shot in the playoffs this year.
For me, it still remains to be seen what decisions they make here, but for all the guys that have worked hard and as a team and grew this year, it does benefit them to have more veterans to support them for the playoffs. Guys like attard and Ginning might have to wait their turn until next year.
You and others may not agree with that approach but that’s how I see it. I’m indifferent on it. Not necessarily thrilled with that plan but I don’t think it’s something that completely abandons the rebuild since it will only be for the stretch run here. |

They understandably didn't want to just punt on the playoffs after getting this far and I agree with that. Last night's game is an example of what this team can do. I'm not suggesting that they will even win a round, but hey, it's playoff hockey! With the trade deadline moves that they made (getting that first rounder for a UFA most importantly) and the fact that they really didn't give anything up to improve their playoff chances I think they bought themselves time for me personally. Let's see what transpires this summer and then perhaps we can make a better judgement on what their plan is. |

Why do some assume Laughton is going to be traded in the offseason? He is a player the team loves. |

Torts needs to stop being a hard ass for once and try to see if they can get RYJO to help. I mean, if he's here why bury him in the AHL? - Phillywhiteout
RYJO could have been had for nothing….no takers. Maybe, just maybe he’s done. |

Danny can speak for the other fans. Not me.
Whatever happens, happens, and I'm ok regardless. But to make moves just to "get in the playoffs". Nah, I'm not on board with that.
I'd of been perfectly fine with them doing nothing aside from the Walker trade. Run with what ya got and see where the chips fall. - Pelle31Forever
Agreed. Don't see the need for an AHL forward and Erik Johnston. I think Ginning should have an extended look, before he bolts to Europe..might be something there, on the cheap, that fits into the bigger picture bottom pairings.

They might not bring Drysdale back this season. So they need that 7th d. I am fine with the trade - WhiskeyMan
It’s fine…it says to the group that the years work is appreciated. It’s depth, that is needed considering all the injuries. A 4th rnd pick in a weak draft? Woopdedoo. They still have 10 picks I believe. Gurianov is a reclamation project…just like Allison in the Preds eye’s.
Now the focus is on the playoff drive….hopefully then can continue games like last night….should be a fun 5 weeks. |

Why? Because the Flyers got a depth center and a depth defenseman to reward this group for having a great season and playing their butts off? You really don't have a clue what you are talking about. All they gave up was Allison (who was never going to play for the Flyers) and a 4th round pick, which has what, a 3% of even making the NHL? Think for a moment, why would Briere go out and get a RHS defenseman at the deadline? The answer is because he knows Risto and Drysdale will not be back this year from their injuries. There is nothing wrong with what the Flyers are doing. Nothing at all. Briere said he would do as much yesterday if something came up. |

Devils traded Vanecek to SJ for Kahkonen...so Devils going with Kahkonen and Allen.
Kahkonen hasn't won since November I believe. 6 wins in 27 started games, and last game he let in 7. Now that's a fine pick up. |
