Every time the Flyers make a move to acquire a player like Johnson, the excuses are the same. "The cost was negligible, added depth for the playoffs, it's just one vet, won't block a youngster" yada yada yada.
The problem is the Flyers do this with like four of five players every season. It's not like its just a one off. Its a recurring theme and gives this coach reasons to overplay them.
Another regime straddling the line. |

Why do they think gurianov is a fit on this roster? I’m hearing he skates like the wind with a very good one timer and that’s it. No playmaking, no defense, no board work. Bad hands. This is a head scratcher |

You really are missing the point here. They currently have Sanheim, York, Staal, Zamula, Attard, Ginning as healthy defenseman. There is no indication that Risto, Drysdale and Seeler are going to be back anytime soon. Again, he was brought in for a 4th round pick as insurance. Not sure why this is so hard to figure out for some folks and why a 4th round pick is such a big deal. I've seen some on here complaining about the fact that he makes 3.2 mil. Who cares? He's off the books after this season. Really? - Phillywhiteout
The playoffs are over a month away. Ginning is not a regular call up. He is up on emergency loan. Seeler will eventually be back. Don't know about Drysdale and Ristolainen. I want the young players to play rather than older vets with no future. As far as the 4th round picks or the cap space. Not complaints that I have made. You can take that up with those that have.

C is better than our last couple GMs score lol
Johnson doesnt bug me at all, won a cup, has playoff experience, i get it.
Johansen couldnt care less, we got a 1st out of it, i dont care if we play him or not. But im not a constant whiner so maybe a little more forgiving, After seeing what dumba got, i think we did awesome on our walker deal - bradster
Ya got a 1rst rnd pick….could care less about Johansen….it does not have any effect what so ever on what they were going to look like next year anyways. The rest of it is meh….I also think they could of moved more, but the prices seemed low…so maybe it was for the best to not move out pieces in that circumstance. |

I finally got to watch the flyers vs panthers game....
Ersson had some absolutely beautiful saves on some top tier players. Reinhart and barkov in particular.
Erason may be the real deal here. He just seems to get better and better.
It sucks to lose Hart, especially under these circumstances but Ers has stepped up nicely |

If you take a look at the flyers roster, who on it has ANY NHL playoff experience? Like nobody. While it's important to let the young guys play meaningful minutes it's also important to ensure they are prepared for the rougher moments. As well as ensuring they won't have the loss or any negativity thrust entirely on their shoulders. It can be a disaster for their confidence and development moving forward.
EJ for a 4th is a nothing burger and he may not even play.
I should say, you're welcome to your opinion but it doesn't make it undeniably correct or fact. |

I have a question for you. How do players actually get playoff experience? The Flyers playoff journey this season, if they make it, is likely to be a short one. Not enough games to negatively affect a player and crush his confidence in my opinion. The Flyers have a coach who like most coaches, favors veterans but with Tortorella, it's to an extreme. Giving him more options to scratch young players instead of developing them and getting them experience. Which is what should happen on a team that is supposedly rebuilding.

Perfectly stated, o great one! I nominate you as moderator so you can ban anyone who has the gaul to disagree with your almighty opinions as a so called Flyers fan. You are on here close to 20 hours a day and know more about the Flyers than all of us combined. Something is seriously wrong with you. I have never denied or backtracked off of the opinion that I wanted Couturier re-signed.
There isn't a player that can easily be signed that do what Couturier can do. You're wrong.
Couturier has been a big part of the teams resurgence and why they're in a playoff spot. Without him, it would've never happened.
By the way, according to your rule that you NEVER EVER, LOL, sign a player at 30 to an 8 year deal unless he is a hall of fame player. The reigning Cup champions just traded for a 30 year old player that is in the first year of a 8 year deal with a 8.1M AAV. Thomas Hertl, who is not a hall of fame player. I guess they aren't aware of your rules. You haven't got the first clue. - MJL
You’re a tool. Coots is the reason for the flyers success this season? What a joke. Yes coots is the reason. Lmmfao.
What he has done since signing his extension not many can do and easily be found. Lmmfao what exactly is that? Miss 2 full seasons time? Produce no offense while centering top line wingers farabee and tk (your assessment) and demoted to 4 th line center.
Yeah surely Philly couldn’t find a player to meet those standards. What a (frank)ing joke.
And good for Vegas trading for hertle. Can’t wait for that to blow up in their face. |

We don’t yet know who sits for Gurianov. And with Johnson, as of today a player that likely won’t be here next year anyway will have to sit. At worst, two players have to sit. Maybe it ends up being one, or none, if Johnson doesn’t play well or brought in for insurance.
I don’t think it’s fair to say they aren’t committed to a rebuild based on the moves they made. Their rebuild strategy goes beyond this season and you don’t have to play all youth for it to qualify.
Nic D over anyone? Horrible decision and makes me shake my head.
Erik Johnson over Attard or Ginning when you already have Zamula and York in, is more about not starting to lose game and be less competitive all because of injuries. They’ve played hard to get where they are and I think Briere is trying to keep them afloat to get into the playoffs since they earned it. He’s not reversing course to win it all this year.
And again, I understand anyone disagreeing with those decisions, but I don’t think that translates into not being committed to a rebuild. We aren’t dealing in absolutes.
I do wish, however, regardless of the moves they made that Nic D would take a seat. Staal can be their 7th as well for now to let Attard or Ginning to stay in the lineup. Once Seeler is healthy, see who is playing well and make your choice from there. - funmaster18
pretty much with this, I would like to see more Attard and Ginning but get the Staal and Johnson playing. the idea those vets understand the playoffs makes sense, we all have our hockey knowledge but I will defer to DB on what experienced vets mean to a team in the playoffs. Staal has looked better and plays a playoff style of game, Johnson has a cup and the Flyers lack playoff experience in the lineup and overall are young team. Ginning, I like him, liked him last year when called up but we have to remember DB knows more than we do, maybe there is a reason Ginning is leaving, maybe he is not, but I am sure DB is managing it appropriately. I reserve the right to critique Torts choices and DB's roster management down the stretch.
I hope the Flyers MAKE the playoffs and don't back in or not make it, more injuries will occur. If they do and it is vs Carolina, well, enjoy the first round. |

Getting the young players playoff experience is so important. It's a stepping stone. Lets trade a 4th round pick to bring in a vet plug to give the coach another option to play in place of a younger player. - MJL
That’s what we were told. The experience is important for these young players. Now it appears at the moment that Staal and newly added Johnson will be blocking some of this young experience. Maybe I was watching a different game than the coach and GM but I cannot understand why Ginning wasn’t given another chance this weekend after his strong showing vs Florida. Aren’t there enough players on IR to permit Ginning to stay with the big club? |

I think Torts will play who he thinks will give them the best chance to win, right or wrong, he will and as much as I prefer the kids and disagree with some of Torts calls, you have to tip the cap to Torts, his calls to date have by and large worked.
I don't think a small sample of playoff hockey will crush a player, just my opinion, we to often look at it from that angle, it is the lift they will get from it that is the value. You can make a case, having vets with playoff experience help with that lift. Say the Flyers get in and get the Canes, if they get worked, I do think the vets can help the younger player keep it perspective and get the lift of the experience. I also think there will be injuries and I think Torts won't hesitate to sit a vet who is not playing well.
Hell, I think they lose in Tampa tonight, if the vets are in, Torts leash for them will get shorter and if they lose a 2nd game in row, you could see Torts want Ginning back.

You're a complete and utter fool who can't read. Read what I posted. I did not post that Couturier is THE reason. I posted he is a big part of the reason for the teams resurgence.
I never posted that he has produced no offense while centering Farabee and Konecny. He had 35 points on the season and probably will get around 45-50 points. That's not no offense.
You've never had a clue of how good of a player Couturier is and never will. Couturier played almost 18 minutes against Florida in the win.
Why doesn't the team management of the Cup champions know about your NEVER EVER rule?
As usual, you don't have squat. |

I agree I would have kept Ginning up. But I’ll say this…they know what he can do and we’ve seen injuries galore. I still think all those young D including Andrae will be part of this playoff push at some point. |

A new line driving this team in the last week or so….Poehling with Hathaway and Cates…Cates game has been found…man that kid is playing good right now. His ability to get in on the forcheck and disrupt has been fun to watch. He seems to be winning most of the puck battles. Hathaway and Poehling are both playing with speed and Hathaway is hitting everything. That’s a solid 3rd line on ANY team in the NHL when they play like that. |

here is the thing, the flyers are clearly looking to make the playoffs. so in that sense the EJ deal makes sense and no issue with it as that is the route they are taking.
just dont give me this rebuilding cap when many knew/know it was BS.
Pick a path (right or wrong) just don't pull another Ronald Hextall lack of plan.
I said months ago attard and ginning are not in the future plans. they have probably already made that determination. could one or both surprise and grab a spot? possibly though they likely won get that shot if all are somewhat healthy. Looking at the long game I would rather them play to find out 100%. You still need to have cheap contracts in your lineup. Definitely on the bottom pair and 4th line. Flyers seem adverse to this concept. |

I get the EJ trade…but I too am hoping it’s the young guys that drive the bus. Injuries continue to pile up and I just see those guys coming in and playing some meaningful minutes in the last 5 weeks.
I would have preferred both those guys remain with Staal sitting, but we both know until Staal totally falls off the cliff, Torts is going to put him out there at this time of year. |

1. Being in the playoff atmosphere is how players begin to gain experience. Taking some shifts but if it's short lived as you suggest, then it could easily be crushing to lose 4 in a row to a young player especially if they made some crucial mistake that led to losing. Or how about the pressure of high stakes hockey? Easy to let it overwhelm you and end up making mistakes. I don't disagree that they need some playing experience but better to insulate.
2. That's on you bro. That's how YOU present yourself if me, and the DMs I got while being a mod about you, indicate. You can blame everyone else but maybe look in a mirror and reflect on yourself. That's a narcissistic viewpoint (which proves my original comment correct about you) that you'd just blame everyone else. It isn't healthy. Take some accountability.
I have no issue having conversations, ones with you just gotta be short because you'll beat a dead horse into glue to ENSURE your point is the last one anyone thinks about.
I'm no longer a mod because of the incessant whining you did in DMs. |
