I was looking at the overall picture, absolutely hate the Wennberg pickup, but love it as a Flyer fan. I think Drury is happy and just wants depth, but depth gets in they are screwed. - Glak18
Drury has made quite a few bad moves over the years in my opinion. Kakko is hurt but he and Lafreniere seem to be close to breaking out. They have a good team and really should let it roll.

Contrast with what the Flyers got for Giroux. A 1st and Owen Tippett. - MJL
I don't think ownership or Crosby would have been OK with a pure trade for futures. They're still technically going for it. |

When asked what message the Guentzel trade sends to the team, Crosby responded “I don’t know.” |

if that is what they want, they need to swing for the fences, trade one of Letang or Frankenstein and reshape the team. |

I didn't know the 1st was conditional, but I disagree with your assessment of the two prospects. Ville Koivunen is having a great year in Liiga and I believe has the size and skill to be a top 6 forward. Vasili Ponomaryov is only 21 and I have read good things about him, though he probably will be a bottom 6 forward. I think Bunting is a good forward that can score 25 goals in this league and is tough to play against. I think this is fine for a UFA. If Carolina felt they could sign him, maybe they would have given up more.
The Flyers will most likely get the 32nd pick in the first round and Tippet for Giroux. Given Giroux only wanted to go to Florida, a good return. - jd250
I'll take the word of the scouts over your appraisal. It's a very mediocre deal for the Pens. They didn't get a single top prospect.
You called Bunting a young forward in your previous post. Shows how much you know about him. |

They're making very bad decisions over there. If you're not re-signing Guentzel, how are you going for it? Bunting is okay but he's nothing special. The Pens have been toast for a while and it's only going to get worse for them.
Tippett was an NHL ready player and a much better prospect than anything the Pens got. |

Got it all figured out do you. Actually I think Ginning has the best chance to make the Flyers because the Flyers need size on the backend. York, Drysdale and eventually Andrea are all small. Sanheim is large but doesn't play large. Seeler is here and plays tough but he does not have size. Zamula is bigger but also does not play big, at least not yet. Risto would have been traded at the deadline if he was not injured and I still believe will be traded this off-season. Staal is gone after this year. So I think there is a spot for a defenseman like Ginning on this team. I think there may not be a spot for Attard. - jd250

LOL, well a man who can admit he made a mistake (Mets) can't be all bad.

Not being a homer but feel like Laughton would fit with New York for a playoff run. Especially if they have to go through Florida.
I don't see them playing Rempe and Edstrom both in the playoffs, so Laughton would help their bottom 6. |

Yeah but my grandmother lived in Jersey and over the summers in the 80's I would spend time over there and listen to Met games on the radio with her. I was a huge Gary Carter fan plus they had Straw and Doc and Big Keith. So it is embarrassing to admit, but they had an entertaining team in the mid-80s and it gave me good memories.
Then for some reason I switched to the dumpster fire of the late 80's - 90's Phillies....
Because of this experience I feel bad when I hear someone admit they are a NY Jets fan. |

They had to move on from Guentzel.
The timeline of any potential extension would far exceed the competitive window that will close when Sid retires. And they don't have the cap space to give him the $7-9M AAV that he'll likely command. |

Watch and learn.
What 3rd pair mediocre defenseman with 3 years of term left at 5.1M was traded in the last month heading toward the deadline that leaves you to believe that Ristolainen would've been traded at the deadline? Or any defenseman for that matter? - MJL

On paper they certainly look like they are...superstar forwards, defenseman and goalie with young talent.
In reality...I don't know.

He has only played a few years in in the NHL and was really good in Toronto. So I didn't notice his age. He is a still a decent player and only 28, not young by NHL standards but still young by mine. |

They created that. By management mandate having to re-sign Malkin and Letang. Mandating going for it and forcing moves like Karlsson. Part of team management is having foresight and proper evaluation.

It was an ownership/Sid mandate.
Also the Karlsson trade was fine. They got rid of some really bad contracts in the process. |

I’m a Mets fan. They rebuilt their farm system in 5 days by using Steve Cohen’s wallet. Now they’ve got Stearns using this year as a reset year before they make a serious run at Soto (plus more) next year, plus all the youth at key places.
But as for this year, they will be a punching bag for the Phillies and Braves. |
