It was an ownership/Sid mandate. - Tomahawk
Yes, so they didn't have to. They created the situation with bad management.

Yeah but my grandmother lived in Jersey and over the summers in the 80's I would spend time over there and listen to Met games on the radio with her. I was a huge Gary Carter fan plus they had Straw and Doc and Big Keith. So it is embarrassing to admit, but they had an entertaining team in the mid-80s and it gave me good memories.
Then for some reason I switched to the dumpster fire of the late 80's - 90's Phillies....
Because of this experience I feel bad when I hear someone admit they are a NY Jets fan. - Glak18
I’m also a Jets fan. |

I don't think ownership or Crosby would have been OK with a pure trade for futures. They're still technically going for it. - Tomahawk
Seems like they a took a middle ground approach with regard to what they got back and now everyone is just confused, just looking at Ryan Wilson's blog. |

I was looking at Carolina and their possible lineup. Started to nod my head liking the depth throughout the lineup....
Then I realized that's who the Flyers probably going to play in the 1st round.

Oh I've never been a Jets fan, always an Eagles fan since I met Reggie White at my sister's cheerleading event when I was a kid...
I'm so sorry for you and understand your pain.

Hi in quantity, low in quality. A very underwhelming return for a one of the best wingers in the NHL. - MJL
Agreed...
Bunting is not a prospect anymore. 3rd team in 10 months.
Don't know the other 3.first is conditional..if they make the finals they get a first, otherwise it's Philly's second round pick.
The other draft pick is only given if the Canes win the cup.
A whole lot of nothing

Also the Karlsson trade was fine. They got rid of some really bad contracts in the process. - Tomahawk

Who was Pocahontas on TSN Trade Centre?
She should take Hartnell's spot. |

I'll take the word of the scouts over your appraisal. It's a very mediocre deal for the Pens. They didn't get a single top prospect.
You called Bunting a young forward in your previous post. Shows how much you know about him. - MJL
do you think this was the best deal the pens had on the table?
is it possible the value that you have on Jake just wasn't there league wide?
is is also possible the pens scouts disagree with you? you have said many times you do not follow prospects. |

Guentzel is a UFA and thus can sign anywhere we wants at the end of this season. The Penguins for a really good, young winger in Bunting, two recent 2nd round picks that a really good prospects and a 1st round pick. I would say that is a nice return. - jd250
Might want to check out the conditions on both picks. Only getting a second rounder right now. |

If Drysdale, Seeler and Ristolainen are all healthy, what chance does he have? - MJL
That's a good question.
But I'm hoping thay DB has a trade lined up for RR this off season |

Maybe expectations are just higher...
Toffoli for a 2nd and 3rd with 50% retained.
It really seems like inflation has hit the NHL this year. Not that long ago just retaining salary used to command a good asset, now just seems expected. |

Can't say they didn't have the cap space to sign Guentzel and then say the Karlsson trade was fine. They're paying him a 10M cap hit for 3 more years after this. All of those bad contracts would be expired after next season. The team was better last year then this year. At least they'll get a higher draft pick out of it. |

Watching these deals happen today I think Danny did a great job. I think the key was getting a deal done early before other teams set the price. |

It's a special situation. Can't really look at it from a normal POV.
Sid's stature and all he's done for that team and city... he's left a lot $ on the table too over the years. They owe him too much to not respect his wishes now. |

I'm sure they made that calculation when they added Karlsson. They needed puck-moving help desperately and Petry wasn't getting it done. And Crosby can turn just about anybody into a viable linemate. So in that case you'd prioritize Karlsson over Guentzel. |

I think at this point it may be safe to say that Laughton and Johansen are staying put.
