We have to hope Seeler doesn't fall off a cliff halfway thru his deal.
Deslauriers is a shadow of what he was even a year ago, and he wasn't good then. - Feanor
He just needs to maintain his level for two and a half years and he can easily be traded at the deadline. Even if they dump him in the minors it won’t hurt that bad. Not a big deal in regards to this team’s issues. |

Johnson was brought in because the Flyers desperately need help on defense right now, with Walker traded and Drysdale, Risto and Seeler all on the shelf. It's unfair to say Johnson will be signed after this season. Also, I don't recall any statement about not wanting to be like Colorado, and I pretty much catch every interview with Jones, Briere or Torts. - jd250
Which is it? The Flyers should play Ginning? Or should they have brought in Johnson and played him instead. Make up your mind.

didnt you just say in a post above they need to create roster spots for young guys?
johnson stinks. he is done.
I didnt say johnson will be signed. I said a vet of his ilk. that you can take to the bank.

Nice try. He had many of those points during the 2010 run in his rookie season when he was the THIRD line center. Thus I said he isn't a true #1 center come playoff time. Take away those 2010 numbers and get back to me. - Phillywhiteout
Because you can just take away points scored at will. For someone who poo poos advanced statistics you sure have a tenuous grasp on basic statistics. Head back to the Pens blog and tell them what a failure Crosby's career is if you take away his 3 cups. |

Yes it would have. Lindros was a great player but not a great leader. But are we surprised? Any player that does not want to play for the team that drafted them is more concerned about themselves than anything else. Hello Cutter! - jd250
If they put #88's talent with Claude's mind and hands and Richie's heart they might have had a player that could have given Sid a run for his money.

he is logging heavy mileage while trying to block every shot. he can just as easily go back to how be played prior to the flyers.
every fan of every team who has a bad contract always says they can be moved at some point. not buying it. why would a team want a 3rd pair dman eating up almost 3 million? with retention his last year sure that I can see. |

Lindros is the kind of player that you are supposed to win Cups with. We had season tickets back then and it was a pleasure to watch a true dominant #1 center (a shame his physical game took such a toll on him). Giroux had oodles of talent, but he just wasn't physically built to be a true #1 center come playoff time IMO. - Phillywhiteout
But what about that time he leveled crosby then scored?!?!?!?!?!? |

Yeah, just another drop in the dead cap bucket to go along with Hayes, Angelo, the upcoming Johansen buyout, the possible Petersen buyout, plus Ellis and maybe Risto on LTIR.

It was nice that he helped the Flyers win a playoff series in front of fans in the stands. 2012 was the last time, and when do you expect the next time will be?

I’m not asking them to blatantly tank, but I am asking them to be smart. Not moving Laughton last season and Seeler this season are not smart moves. - BiggE
nor was extending Poehling
signing Staal
Trading for Johnson

I would disagree. After 2010, he was the #1 center and the teams leading scorer. Which is when he put up 75% of those point totals - MJL
And I would disagree. Especially when Carter and Briere were both still on the team. Agree to disagree.
Either way the point still stands. He scored the vast amount of his points in the playoffs when he still had quality centers such as Briere and Carter taking some heat off him. After that, his numbers dropped precipitously.
The numbers are skewered. And that is the whole point. Saying he scored 81 points in 95 games purposefully distorts the FACT that after age 25 his playoff numbers are TRASH.

If they are truly rebuilding why does the cap matter over the next couple of seasons? Young players are cheap. |

They aren’t rebuilding. They are doing what they always do, retooling here and there while simultaneously trying to win.
It won’t work, and we’ll just continue stumbling through a 2nd decade of mediocrity. - BiggE
This comment brings back unpleasant memories. Was raving pretty much the exact same words for decades.
I feel for you. Eventually, reality will set in and you'll get the full rebuild. Or get lucky in the draft lottery.
Not that elite talent equals playoff success. |

because things change daily. never know when you may need the cap space. better to have it then not no? |

My critique of Chicago (and I generally like the franchise) is that they should have lost that pick due to the scandal coverup. Friggin NJ lost a first for cap circumvention but Chicago got fined and had to have some people step down? How is that allowed. Answer because the league needs the Blackhawks to be relevant. Not a conspiracy but more of a business decision. - Hextall271
Because Chicago is a big market team that the league NEEDS to be competitive and do well. NJ, nobody cares about NJ. They could fold tomorrow and people would wonder why they don't have a game that night.
Chicago really did get off lightly and was swept under the rug as best as the league was able to.

So when do we start to blame the playoff collapse on the captain? Since he was named they have been bad. |

as was noted they ran him into the ground early. many not surprised by what has transpired since. Too bad they are in the playoff race as maybe you can spot him some games.

Plans should not change daily. Either this is a long term rebuild and the cap doesn’t matter over the next few seasons or they should save along the margins to sign free agents during that time. |

Is the bottom of the roster prevent the Flyers from becoming contenders or is the top of the roster?
If it’s the top, why do you care about 4th liners and 6-7 defenders? |

situation change with other teams. you never know when a player will become available. never know when you can be a mediator for a deal and be that 3rd party.
flyers pretty much always lose at the margins. |
