Is the bottom of the roster prevent the Flyers from becoming contenders or is the top of the roster?

If it’s the top, why do you care about 4th liners and 6-7 defenders?

- psuhockey

Those are roster spots and cap hits - They should be using cap space to garner more assets - They should also be playing the players that they scouted and drafted to see if they are actual NHL players - and if they arent maybe they should look at who and how players are scouted and evaluated

not what I am referring too.
situation change with other teams. you never know when a player will become available. never know when you can be a mediator for a deal and be that 3rd party.

flyers pretty much always lose at the margins.

- hello it's me 2050

I can’t worry about the margins when they don’t have the big stuff in order. They have nothing above a 3C on the roster and nothing above second pairing defensemen. Their drafting has been garbage and is why they are in the situation they are. Last year looks promising so there is some hope there.

I don’t think Briere weaponized cap space enough this deadline. He should of taken on more crap for picks.

The Flyers coaching staff is also trying to ride the Poehling line. That's classic Tortorella.
- MJL

True but in all honesty those are the only guys who seem to generate anything.

I only watched the 1st but Hathaway had the only high danger chance aside from Attard's point blank shot.

Edit: I should have said recently with regards to the Poehling line

Would have been nice if #88 put the team on his back in the '97 Finals.

Cuck signs Nic D for 4 years

Don’t worry, Briere won’t make stupid moves like that

Briere extends Seeler for 4 years and 10.8 million dollars.

LOL

- BiggE

Even funnier when you factor in both have/had NMC/NTC.

As long as there are veterans around that you can easily cast kids aside for, kids that aren't turnkey that need a bit of time to get going will never get a fair shake.

In most cases coaches have to be forced to use kids in the lineup.

Probably not but at the very least #88 could have put up more of a fight.

Fair argument. I just feel Detroit was on a mission after Colorado beat em the previous year.

Flyers have to hope he can buck the odds and use this year as a spring board into next year. Very smart player. But physically missing almost two years has to be tough. I think he’s hit a bit of a wall.
- landros 2

Not good any way you slice it. The first 2 years of the dela, which probably would have been the most productive, are a wash.

I have been saying Coots has been playing behind the play since before New Years, so I'm really not surprised at this point. He looks cooked to me.
- jd250

Totorella is doing the same thing with TK and Tippet. They play almost every other shift and TK always takes extended shifts plus PP and PK. Also doing it on with York and Sanheim. These are unsustainable TOIs. Just admit you do not have the horses, stop killing you players, and for the love of God, jettison Stall and Johnson in favor of some development.

That line is fine as a 4th line or to a lesser extent a 3rd line. They don't score enough to justify the ice time over the more skilled and talented offensive players. That philosophy and way of thinking. Is a factor in the limitations of Tortorella as a coach.

Interesting juxtaposition with Torts in his love for dogs and how he beats his players like a horse hitting a jockey. Couturier was the first victim. Who is next? Seeler will come back in and block every shot and how long will that last?

The Flyers have actually been pretty lucky this season. Hitting on the Walker/Seeler combo was pure dumb luck. A lot of other things going right for them as well. It’s still not enough.

It would be a shame for the Flyers not to make the playoffs this season with the effort the team has put in all season long. Gaining some playoff experience will be invaluable for the younger players. With our present goal drought and lack of defense lately, it's gonna be a hard row to hoe to stay in the playoff race. Staal and Johnson look like they're skating in slow motion. Is they're any chance of Seeler or Drysdale coming back in time for the playoff push? It's still amazing how the Flyers are in 3rd place despite having the worst PP in the league. Go Fly Boys!

When you are down to running Marc Staal & Erik Johnson as your 2nd D pair you aren’t gonna win too many games.

The Flyers, due to a number of factors, clearly overachieved during the 1st half of the season. Now, with Hart and Walker gone, Drysdale and Risto (he’s better than Staal and/or EJ) on the shelf, Ersson perhaps feeling the pressure of being the #1 and wearing down, Atkinson cooked, Couts wearing down and the complete lack of a functional powerplay, they are what they are.

At this point, I will be pleasantly surprised bordering on shocked if they make the playoffs. And, if they do, it will be because no other team stepped up and seized the reins.

- BiggE

Johnson stood out last night ➖️ 4! Now we know why Bill was lukewarm giving up a 4th for a "veteran" trash 🗑 can. Staal is enough

The PO appearances under Hexy didn't exactly jump-start that generation of kids.

I don't think it's gonna make much of a difference for this one either.

At the end of the day this team simply lacks talent. Not sure any amount of luck or experience can overcome that.

I come hat in hand to say good game in the previous thread and you decide to be a female dog (just like your coach tonight). Funny thing is, everyone in this blog was saying "leafs were done" last year and wouldn't make the playoffs this year. Good luck making it the show! I'll enjoy at least 4 meaningful games.

I never said this team will go far in the Playoffs, but the experience will help the rookies and junior players in the future when the Flyers finish this rebuild.

The posts you're making are not going to help you get hired for the Flyers PR department. Keith Jones, the Flyers head cheerleader will not be happy. Say it with me. The message is the standard, culture, learning to be a Flyer and getting these players playoff experience.

He chastised another poster for coming in and trolling the Flyers board. He justified his trolling of the Pens blog because according to him. He did it with class and intelligence.

Because you can just take away points scored at will. For someone who poo poos advanced statistics you sure have a tenuous grasp on basic statistics. Head back to the Pens blog and tell them what a failure Crosby's career is if you take away his 3 cups.

Unfortunately for you, you aren't smart enough to realize that the very act of a Flyers fan trolling Pens fan is a dead giveaway and a sign of a lack of intelligence.

But what about that time he leveled crosby then scored?!?!?!?!?!?

One game and one series. The Pens tried to out gun the Flyers in that series which was a flawed strategy by their coach. The Devils shut him and the rest of the team down in the very next series that year.
