Lucky & gutsy gets 2 huge points. Keep Ginning & Attard out there over Staal. York really developing into a stud back there. |

Wouldn't remotely say he looked like a genius. One-goal game, late third period. Not a single Flyers center has won even half the draws. You've scratched your best faceoff guy to "give your team the best lineup to win".
That is didn't end up being costly is a credit to the players on the ice. The coach gets none. He easily could have come away looking bad.

Completely agree. No good reason was given to scratch Torts. If they had come out and said, he’s been struggling so we wanted to give him a night off to reset and watch from the press box, that’s fine. Even though they won, it was a bit lucky. Leafs hit 6 posts or something like that. As you say, they lost tons of draws as well. It just didn’t cost them. |

Torts didn't want a Captain named IMO. Briere and Jones overruled him, and this was Torts' way of re-exerting control. You want a Captain? Ill publicly embarrass the guy in front of the whole world. I'll bet that was the 'treatment" Coots was talking about. Coots got the C and Torts went off a pouted in the corner planning his revenge.

If that’s the case, I’d be canning him and looking for a new coach. The whole idea of not having a captain was pure idiocy to begin with. Torts has done some good things I think but, this isn’t one of them. |

I'm not sure it's any more dramatic than the team is in a funk and Torts chose a drastic/unfortunate way to try to get them to snap to.
Coots is so respected that Torts may have effectively shortened his lifespan behind the bench here to manufacture a temporary jolt. |

If half of Torontos shots that hit the post went in this game would have been over in the 2nd period. Nobody is getting clowned by torts. |

I can really see Tortorella doing something like that but Couturier was named captain on 2/14. There have been about 14 games since then. Why did he wait that long? It followed a familiar pattern with Tortorella. Cut ice time, demote down in lines, cut ice time further then a scratch.

You take the two points and run obviously but this is game that more time than not, the Flyers will lose. The Flyers are a defensive team and they gave up way too much. They were more competitive and played better but it's nothing to celebrate. Flyers came out on the better end of puck luck. Two seeing eye goals that got through traffic and went in and the Leafs hit at least 5 posts. Flyers hit a couple. Most nights, the Flyers will lose that game. There is also the Nylander play with the open net where the puck luckily hit York when he wasn't even facing the shooter.

Whether a player stays in the lineup or not is completely up to them. Torts has laid down the standard; he will play the players that are playing the best hockey. In the past 10 games, has Couturier been the best center on this team? The second best center? Even the 3rd best center? His ice time was cut and his responsibility lessoned so he could have the time to work on his game and improve. Did he improve? I don't like that Couts was scratched, but IMO his game has been off pretty much the entire season. He is slow, behind the play often, and losing more than his normal share of puck battles. His face-offs have been the only saving grace up to this point. I suspect he will be back in the lineup soon, but in the meantime I'm sure the message was sent loud and clear to the locker room, raise your game this time of year or you sit. And I love it! |

I think Frost has played two really strong games back to back against two top teams. I hope he continues to do this because the Flyers need it badly. My only critique is Frost has got to be more careful and not take dumb penalties. With the PK struggling, they almost cost the team the game last night.

With Tortorella, that is completely wrong. I stopped reading at that point.
