I know, my point is the luck in this game was not all one sided as some would want you to believe. |

Do I believe the team appointed a Captain and Torts didn't want it? Yes. DO I believe the rest, not really.
Though when I hear there has been no communication between Torts and Coots since he was named Captain, I am understandably curious. - MBFlyerfan
Bill .. we need your help here .. What is going on behind the scenes? Inquiring minds want to know!
Can't we just enjoy having a hockey season and not get bogged down in the politics and made up drama? |

Yup, definitely a weak point right now, however obtaining just 1 top center slots everyone where they should be and turns this into a strength. - jd250
one top center doe snot turn it into a strength. |

Danny Briere on the #flyers decision to healthy scratch captain Sean Couturier tonight: "I can tell you one thing -- with John Tortorella, it doesn't matter who it is. That's what he's known for. He treats everybody the same way." - jd250
Briere is full of crap. He is either delusional or is simply being untruthful.

Couturier has looked pretty cooked for the last 20 games if you ask me (6pts, -14). I don't think him sitting is the end of the world whatsoever. He's coming off a serious injury and a long lay off. Coots didn't play a ton of hockey the last 2 years. I don't know that making him Captain had much to do with it. Couturier is still a good hockey player and a de-facto leader on this team regardless of whether there's a letter stitched to his sweater or not.
There were times when Giroux was our captain where I felt he needed to be scratched to send a message. I don't think anyone should ever be immune to being scratched. It's a coach's decision to figure out if a guy can play through it or if he needs the mental reset. I think if Couturier wasn't coming off a serious injury layoff, he'd be given a bit more grace to play through a funk.
We can argue all day whether Torts is the best fit to make those decisions. He's the coach and his only job is to try and win games and make the playoffs. He's working with a younger defense since the Walker trade. There's 0 margin for error. Torts has been critical of Atkinson this season as well, so at least it's consistent. The vets aren't getting a free ride and that's the way it should be.

I'm very glad they won (on my b day no less!) but in reality, had even half of those posts they hit gone in, we lose that. What you will also notice, is how hard of a slog it was to hold in the late third when we could not win a single faceoff. Tavares was eating us ALIVE. Couts has struggled for sure, but of late, his faceoffs have been better. At minimum, we missed that aspect of his game. We very much got lucky to hold on for that win in the 3rd. - Hextall271
If Terrornto (sic) scores two additional goals, it would be fair to give the Flyers one and then we would have had a tie.

For the record, I was at the game last night. The Flyers battled hard and earned a good win, but this team is clearly better with Couturier in the line-up. He needs to be playing meaningful minutes but I also don't think it's weird at all he needed a reset with how much time he missed the past 2 years. |

There is zero consistency in Tortorella's decision on who to scratch and when. For example, Atkinson is 34 and not a part of the future of this team. Couturier was just named captain and is in the beginning of an 8 year contract and is part of the future of this team as of now. It is not a similar situation.
