Coaches deserve a full season. We’ll know all we need to know by this time next year.
Unless the Isles blow it up in the offseason. - Wildschwein
Imagine if we started what could have been a short retool three years ago when we didn’t make the playoffs. No Engvall, Mayfield not resigned, two consecutively good drafts of prospects. We potentially could be back to being a legit playoff team next year.
Yet here we are with no prospects, crap long term contracts, with no end of this in site. Now we have a coach trying to sell the fanbase a line of sh!t.
Roy will wear out his welcome real quick here if he keeps gaslighting the fanbase. Lou needs to be shot into the sun for doubling down on this. His evaluation of this “group” was obviously incorrect. His continuing doubling down on exactly that is looking more and more inept by the day. He should be held accountable for it but most likely won’t. At most we will be welcoming his son as our next GM.
That would be a huge misstep by our owners imo to hand the reigns to Chris especially after this. |

Happy we have Horvat to meander through mediocrity or a rebuild.

Way past time. Many of us saw this coming. This should not be a surprise. You cannot handle the roster Like Lou has done for years and think it will work out. It's not even 2nd guessing. Many had issues at the time what Lou was doing. |

He will start hemorrhaging support from the fanbase at the very least if he keeps saying stupid sh!t like that. Can’t take someone seriously who makes delusional comments like that. That’s right up there with, “I believe in this group.” - Cptmjl

If Lou is replaced, I really hope it’s not with his son. That’s another “loyalty” move, and most often doesn’t lead to success

Haha. Been a while since I heard/saw that. Good ole Jackie Cap. “He plays the game the right way” (after 10 straight losses) |

This organization has seen it’s fair share of nepotism and unearned loyalty over the years. I hope that Ledecky/Malkin buck the trend. I honestly have zero faith in them doing so. |

Agreed. I don’t see them firing Lou. I think they give him one more year. But what do I know. Heck we watched Garth Snow tell fans to be patient, and that a rebuild would take 5 years, and 12 years later they barely won a round. |

It's not Lou's fault. Covid, Taxes, and the Rangers. The Cap should go up enough so Lou can give out lousy contracts.

Ledecky and Malkin do not have to be hockey experts to tell something is wrong. They can do a Google search on possible GM candidates at least.

Ledecky and Malkin don’t speak PP and PK, but they do speak $$$. Losing teams mean low attendance. Once that starts changes will be made imo |

Get ready for it. We may revisit some of those right here on this very thread. You may want to preemptively numb your mind with some narcotics. That’s my plan. |

I love how newsday is blaming low attendance on parking. Sure it sucks but if this team were truly competitive nobody would give a rats arse about the parking. They are experiencing lower attendance because Lou has done sh!t to the lineup for some time now and the team sucks. Islander fans are a fickle bunch when it comes to their team being bad with good reason. |

Have to think most fans are tired of this roster and the constant struggle. This is still very much the same Islanders from the past even with a new building.

100000%. Winning team and that parking makes no difference. “If you build it they will come”. |

Our owners need to step up, put their big boy pants on and ask Lou to step aside. It's past time. Anyone going to these last few home games this season shouldn't be kissing Ledeckys ass behind the net. Everyone in that section should be asking him who he has in mind for a new GM. This season has shown the Lamoreillo way of building teams is a thing of the past, and now, so should he be.

It's always an excuse. Drafting is too hard, Rangers are preventing us from signing quality UFA's, and now parking.

The retool versus 'Blow it up' debate is a tough one.
Naturally if we retool, you can only do a limited amount of maneuvers, so you're going to end up keeping some players you probably don't want. If I'm retooling, the guys I do want are
13,14,3,6,8,2,28,32,30, & 40.
Then we're probably stuck with 18,24 & 53.
Palms and Nelson should be dealt. Lee bought out. Clutter and Martin gone. Holmstrom needs to compete for his role. That's a lot of maneuvering |

Mr. Ledecky, Lou has had a wonderful career and is an all-time great. This team needs a change as Lou does not know how to build a team in 2024 and an NHL that is built on speed and skill.

I don’t see how you keep Varlamov when he’s barely seen the ice at his salary.

It's too much for Lou. Maybe not for a new GM not in love with these players like Lou.

At least if they attempt to retool and it becomes obvious that it isn't working out, they're already part of the way through a full on rebuild.
All of this said, and I very much agree with everything you posted, I'm not confident anything happens. Ownership invested a ton of money in this arena and has creditors to pay back so I strongly suspect that we're going to be stuck wallowing in mediocracy while they try to keep attendance up long enough to square up with all the lenders they borrowed money from to make UBS happen. |

A cheaper backup should have been found. Again, Lou not understanding the Cap.
