It was just a question
Ovi has had a lock out season, a shortened season due lock out AND covid. Otherwise he likely would have had it already. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't recall Gretz having seasons like that. - Aaron_85
Ah yes the lock out season, forgot about that.
Actually, Gretzky went through a lockout as well i believe |

He did, but in 1994.
Wasn't during his most productive years. Ovy probably would have had another 40-50 goals and 100 more points.
But it is what it is and he still need to get there. |

If we are going to play that game, Gretzky had 46 goals in the WHA. |

3 x 4m for domi
2 x 4.5m for bert. Nothing more for him
Wont happen, but thats as high as i would go.
If it was a choice between bert or domi, id go with domi. Faster and more versatile
But we'll see. |

After back to back seasons of signing 3M 1 year deals(probably took a bit of a discount this year) what makes you think he gets 4M?
He seems to have a lot of passion for the Leafs. Him and his dad have made quite a bit of money and I would argue both have made more than they have given by quite a bit.
I think Domi is a guy that would sign for less and Leafs would also give some term.
As for Bert after the rocky year they would get him at a good price.
It is a no brainer to get both these guys locked up, won't get anything close to as good value in free agency either. |

Dodgers sign Shane Pinto - Canada Cup
Ohtani could opt out of his deal by the end of the year if he wanted to.
He won’t, but now he could. |

I'd love to get Bert to stay for 4.5 but as you said no shot he takes a 1M haircut for a 2 year term at the age of 29. His playoff performance this season will likely dictate how much more than his current 5.5M he will get.
I am guessing he will end up somewhere on a big time overpay for multiple years as he's probably at that "I need to make as much as I can on my next deal" place in his career. I'd love to be wrong but....
Domi I could see the leafs locking up to what you proposed as it's a bump in pay for him by 1M and gives him term - he's also 29. |

I’d rather see if Bobby McBobby can become a top six LW for $1.35M and use Bert $ for a C |

Ohtanis interpreter was fired.
There was a clause saying that if at any point he is fired he can opt out at the end of that season. |

A good bounce-back game for the Leafs last night. The Caps goaltender was very average and their defense wasn't great. It's nice to know that we let Rasmus Sandin go for Easton Cowan. Sandin looks like he did, when he was a Leaf. Something like Timothy Liljegren does right now. Can we find another sucker team with a late first rounder to take him off of our hands? Maybe a Chicago or Arizona, that has a plethora of late 1st rounders from contending teams moving forward. It would be nice to acquire another 1st rounder for next year so we can have a slow progression of prospects coming on line going forward.
I agree with a lot of the sentiments about our top end players last night, but one player many didn't say much about was Connor Timmins. He played very well last night. Quick passes out of his defensive zone and great skating. He has a bomb of a shot. That shot that he took from the point, that Matthews scored on, that was later overturned was something I haven't seen from any other defenseman on this Leafs team. They should have tried him on the powerplay to see if he could have loaded one up at the top of the slot. I don't know why Keefe hates him and rarely plays him. I get it that he has issues with staying healthy, but having a great skating right handed defenseman with another year of term can't hurt. Keefe needs to let him play against Edmonton and see how he handles the heavy going with the Oilers. It can't hurt having his speed and puck moving ability against a team like Edmonton. Time to see what this guy could bring to this team and see if he could make Liljegren obsolete. |

after 2 years of a 3M cap hit what has been done to suggest he will get 4M?
If he wants to be a leaf it’s 3M or under. |

If it's illegal to bet on ANY sports per MLB rules, and Ohtani knowingly covered his sports gambling debt, how does that work? |

Hard no to Andersen. - Fakepartofme I think we would be good with Martin Jones as our backup on a minimum salary. It would be counterproductive to bring Samsonov back, considering that Woll is our goalie for the future. That would probably be a $4M saving on the Cap going forward. I think Woll should start getting the majority of the starts moving forward. Sammy had a great run, but his last couple of games were mediocre. He made some great saves, but also let in a few that were stoppable when he's on his game. Those inconsistencies could cost you a playoff round. Lets see where Woll's at going down the stretch.
