Ridiculous save by Fowler

I'm really curious to see how that kid is gonna pan out, sure looks promising. but he's 19, which is insanely young for a goalie, I doubt we see him with the habs or in Laval any time soon. |

oh, really? well that's nice then.
I guess playing in Laval would make a lot of sense for him at that point. I'd definitely like to see him get some NHL action but at the same time I wouldn't want him to precipitate things with his development, goalies rarely get a spot as an NHL regular at a very young age, and when they do it often comes with its share of struggles (Hart and Oettinger come to mind).

The problem with NCAA hockey is that they don't play many games.
He would get more "mileage" by being in the AHL.
It's funny, I found myself rooting for him against Hutson tonight. To be honest he's the one who needs winning the most there, I feel Hutson is pretty much done evolving in that league. |

I think most guys coming out of the NCAA hit a wall with an 82 game season. They are just not mentally or physically ready for that undertaking (whether in MTL or Laval).
On the flip side, I think they spend more time on practice in the NCAA than they would in Laval or MTL.
So there is that year of adjustment, on top of trying to grow their game.

I just checked and apparently NCAA teams are allowed to play only 34 games during the regular season..?
I know there's a lot of focus on education, which explains why they aren't playing as much as in other leagues, but I didn't think the gap was that big with the NHL. |
