Well...if you played you would know getting benched is a part of the deal. Coots ain't a superstar. He is not immune to this. He is an good player who is a little over paid not playing up to par. It is now on him to decide to man up or sulk.
You shouldn't throw insults. It is not nice, plus it is well known you are the dumbest guy on here for over a decade. We all try to be polite...but it’s tough. - kennygarcon
So Torts doesn’t play a factor here? 20 mins of ice for 2/3rds of the season for a guy that hasn’t been on the ice for two years? He has hit a wall.
What about Torts usage of players in OT? Nobody cares if you played or not. I have coached some of the dumbest players. It doesn’t mean squat.

You can’t call a spade a spade when coots is the subject… it doesn’t fit the narrative.
Here’s my take on why coots was benched and why torts is avoiding the press. Because he doesn’t want to come out and flat out say coots isn’t him. That coots simply isn’t as good as everyone thinks. Injury or not. He has clearly lost a step and never was a burner. It is what it is. Real fans know it. Torts knows it |

Then why name him captain? Torts didn’t just figure this out after naming him captain I assume.

Real fans know why 😂. The guy was fine for the first half of the year and now real fans know what he is. Simple logic man. Get with it |

Okay, how can you say that York was sent down last year due to personality issues and not because of poor play? The player himself admitted that he didn't play well enough. He is now excelling and turning into one of the Flyers best defenders. Frost is now excelling after he went into Torts' office and told him to puck off. Yet, you always focus on the negatives and put Torts in a negative light. Foerster has excelled and TK has become a new man under Torts. I could go on and on, but you would just continue to focus on all the negatives. You do you! Thanks! - Phillywhiteout
You asked the York question on the other thread. It was answered over there. You can read my answer there.
Frost has been playing well over all going back to the tail end of the 21/22 season. The biggest interruption of Frost' solid play has been Tortorella stashing him on the 4th line to start the 22/23 season and scratching him this season after two games and for 11 games overall this season. Frost had to go into his office and talk to Tortorella to get him off his ass and to treat him fairly. Tortorella continues in an unprofessional manner to use a players off ice personality as a factor. Seeking out unprofessional confrontation and creating a toxic environment. Which will slowly and surely erode this team. Foerster has had long periods of offensive drought and was never treated like other players have been. Which I completely agree with and should the standard of how young players are handled. It's an inconsistency, which is the issue. Tortorella talks about non-negotiables and how a player no matter what, has to give him something away from the puck. Frost has steadily improved his play away from the puck to where he is one of the better two way players on the team. While Tippett is piss poor away from the puck and has never had to face accountability for that. Another inconsistency. Konecny was trending forward as a player before Tortorella got here. Although I do give Tortorella credit for putting him on the PK. |

What is wrong with being held accountable? He is being paid, in guaranteed money, to play to a certain standard. He is not.
He was moved down the lineup, his ice time was shortened. This happens from Pee Wee hockey on down. A hockey player knows what this means.
He did not get the message. Benching is next.
It is so obvious so many Flyer fans have never put on a pair of skates before.
Getting benched is normal. It a part of the deal. Now its up to Coots to respond...or quit. - kennygarcon
This is beyond accountability. One game was enough. Point made. This is arrogance at its finest. |

That ignores the fact that Couturier played at a strong level the first half of the season. To the point where he was for months, averaging 19-20 minutes a game.

Bill,
Any thoughts of when we’ll see Barkey? Is he a candidate for a ten game October try-out in your mind? - Sublime55
No. He will play another OHL season. Not physically ready for the pros yet. |

Yes and the second half he as been less than mediocre. His play was that of a fourth liner. If he was remotely close to what he was in the first half he would not have been benched.
And like I have heard many times, let the kids play over the vets who are not contributing.

Couturier, despite his down turn in play, is still one of the top 12 forwards on the team. He can still contribute with his defensive and faceoff ability. Playing Couturier would not prevent a single young player from being in the lineup.

I need to clarify a statement I made yesterday about Torts not needing to be accountable to media and fans. I did not mean it's okay he is ducking the press conferences/media availability. That's wussy stuff. Fine to answer the question as it's between Sean and I. But at least stand there like a man, or a well compensated head coach, and take the questions.
As I've said before, I really dislike Torts. Great that he's got this team punching above their weight, but I can't stand the guy.
We need a point today. Hopefully take care of business when the schedule lightens up soon.
Let's go boys! |

I am hoping that is a hidden benefit of this 2 game scratch. That and Coots FINALLY realizing he needs to play better.

No doubt. He has been held accountable and now realizes that he has to play better. I'm expecting big things.
