Well, godspeed to them, and may they emulate the Sabres for the next decade-plus.

Haha. Agreed. I wonder how that penguins fan who trolls here (beaker avatar) is making out. Hopefully therapy is going well for him.

It’s going to take them a while to retool. Especially in view of the fact that they still seem to want to hold on to the big three and Karlsson rather than make a trade to jump start the rebuild.

Well they have cups to cry in I guess. They have a model for success. Worked two times already for them.

Missed the game but watched the goals afterwards. Two of the the goals were very stoppable and plain bad goals against. Tarasenko’s it was stoppable but I can forgive that one. Sandstrom needed to play better than that especially with only 15 shots. Dear god.

Stoppable for a nhl goaltender. We did not have one playing.

Oh I agree. They are the gold standard in the nhl over the last say 19 years. With any luck, they’ll be able to get a few 1st overall picks gifted to them by the nhl.

Man. You’re speaking the truth. I wonder where we’d be in the standings if hart was still on the team? It was nice to have two good nhl tenders for a while.

Why does Torts have to be so short in his post-game? I understand he is upset about losing the game, but grow up already, answer the questions and move on. The drama is embarrassing. He wants the team to be calm and focused as they race to the playoffs, and yet Torts has been acting more and more like a manic child.

Scratching Coots was about as mickey mouse as it gets. The fact they pulled off wins against both Toronto and Boston is just bonus for Jorts. It's a win-win for Jorts to pull this kind of stunt IMO.

If Couturier comes back after scratched and regains his form then BOOM Jorts was brilliant sitting him to refocus his game.

If Couturier comes back after scratched and continues with his poor play then BOOM Jorts is a genius... "See he scratched Couturier because he's lost a step, yada, yada..."

The real issue though is the players, the team in the room. Every coach has a certain amount of lifespan to play around with. For a team like the Flyers, I believe that lifespan is definitely shorter versus other markets around the NHL.

I believe this Couturier business was more of an unnecessary distraction as well as a critical burning of his lifespan as a head coach in Philadelphia—especially considering Bill's writing on the event and how both Couturier and Laughton are the most respected players in the room.

Also positive takeaways from the season series of Flyers Vs. Cats. The Flyers won the season series 2-1. Not bad for a bubble, rebuilding, supposed to be a lottery contender team.

In fact if you list the majority of top Stanley Cup contending teams in the league, the Flyers have beaten nearly every one of them.

Agree he was about to demand a king's ransom to sign/stay in Philadelphia, not to mention a term that most of us would be horrified by.

I agree. We’re a better team without him. Before ersson’s contract is up, I’d trade him. Hahaha

Joking aside, this all aligns with our historical MO of not worrying about goaltending which has come back to bite us on many occasions. I’d really like to see them reverse this trend, but I doubt they will. It is what it is.

Well say what you want about the Penguins, but they managed their generational talent(s) quite well. The only other one that won a SC was Ovechkin and in took him a round a decade.

Bill, it was interesting to hear your Flyers Daily comments on Couturier going forward. I don’t think any player who has a serious injury after 30 can get back to where he was. Decline is inevitable. The Wild are dealing with that with Spurgeon and Brodin.

Jagr said that as he got older he had to “reinvent himself.” He had to assess his strengths at the time and adapt his game and playing strategy to where he was now. That’s where I see Couturier. He can probably slow the decline some because he’s sound defensively and thinks the game well.

Will the Ian Laperrière experiment end after the season? If so where will he be reassigned next? Analytics?

What other generational players are really out there that haven't won?

McDavid's the only one by my count and he's too good to not win one eventually.

Didn’t Vito Andolini actually kill the black hand Don Fanucci (your avatar) in Godfather 2? The irony. 😂
