Not the first person I've heard express this feeling on Brady as captain. Be curious to see how people feel in the off season after another wasted season.
- david22

Pretty sure Dorion promised the C when negotiating Brady's long term deal. Reasonably confident the Norris deal was signed max term hastily also to make Brady happy. It feels like a ton of stock has been put into making this one guy happy. BT strikes me as somebody who would've benefited from a Marchand C trajectory parallel - mature and learn over time under the wing of a Bergeron type, and close out his career out as captain.

Yeah dawg, Sens not giving up a top 10 pick for a 31 year old D-man next year.

Good cap hit, great player..... would love him on my team but not for 10th overall with where the Sens are. I would seriously consider trading Boston's first for him

What is the point of naming all the "notable" picks? It comes down to being able to identify if a player may be notable at that time. Back in their draft years, there was and still is no way to be able to guarantee that a player may turn out to be notable. At best it is an educated guess and hope you can develop the player into someone worthwhile.

I would rather keep our picks to rebuild our base. You can always use Chychrun/Norris/Brannstrom/Joseph/etc. as trade bait to go out and get what you need.

Who have Ottawa got in round 1 the past 13 drafts, whether their own picks of through trade (beyond top 6 picks)?
Tyler Boucher (10) Logan Brown (11) Cody Ceci (15) Erik Brannstrom (15) Josh Norris (17) Curtis Lazar (17) Lassi Thomson (19) Colin White (21) Stefan Noesen (21) Matt Puempel (24) Jacob Bernard-Docker (26) Shane Bowers (28) Ridly Greig (28)

All these players outside of Josh Norris are the quality of players you can get in the second round. Holding onto 1st round picks beyond the top 15 is pretty useless OR there's not much of a difference unless you KNOW you have a strong probability of a player turning into a useful player. Round 2 is very underrated for prospects.

Dorion was a F**** in idiot for getting a horrible return for DeBrincat. Paying a 7th overall pick for garbage in Kubalik, no name prospect, and a LATE 1st rounder - I knew it then, but to actually go through it after all the names above, it's sickening. Ridly Grieg is a solid piece but he's not going to be a top line forward. He has a CHANCE of being a second liner but likely fits in as a strong middle 6 forward. If that's what we trade 7th overall picks for, then it's better to have two 2nd rounders or spend money in free agents + trade!

Right now the draft is not a significant priority for the Sens. Draft picks are important but none of the selections will be a factor for another 3 years or so. This fan base and the existing players cannot support another 3 years of losing like this past year.

Either this group of players is successful or it all gets blown up. I believe in this core group.

Some folks still want to add more offensive punch. Why?

This team gives up too many goals, why? They allow too many soft goals. Why?

It seems to me the Sens will need to spend assets to motivate a trade partner to take on a chunk of the Korpisalo contract. And, they will need to invest more draft capital/prospects into acquiring a proven goaltender.

They need a better physical presence (size) in front of their own net.

Those are my first two priorities.

Third priority is a shut down centre who can play tough minutes against the other teams top centres.

New Jersey was supposed to fly high and was at the top of most everyone's preseason predictions. Ottawa was close behind with everyone jumping on the bandwagon predicting a playoff position for the Sens.

So, what happened? Both teams imploded because of goaltending.

It becomes psychologically brutal when teams to give up soft goals at the beginning of the game or down the stretch when it is close. Players don't quit, but they get pushed down when an opposing team starts the game one up after the first or second shot.

Listened on radio and heard a talking head explain why Cooper (Tampa) deserved coach of the year. He has not won it before despite a phenomenal 10 year record. Do you think his winning record has something to do with having a world class goalie? Why are the Ranger so good? Why did Boston not falter with the retirement of Bergeron and David Krejci?

Thoughts on Tij Iginla. Was going to be around 10th overall but he is gaining a lot of attention for someone that could sneak into the 5-8 range. Playing amazing in the playoffs so far. Thoughts?

My Top 8 FA D-men (assuming they wanted to sign in Ottawa)

8) Brady Skjei
7) Alexandre Carrier
6) Chris Tanev (2 x 4M)
5) Sean Walker
4) Matt Roy
3) Brett Pesce
2) Dylan Demelo (+ 41)
1) Brandon Montour

*Montour is the best overall but defensively 2-6 would all improve Sens more

There's a handful of goalies available of note going to free agency this year.

Samsonov, Kahkonen, Ned. I don't know if these guys are top tier but better than Korpse? Likely.

Just so we all accept the reality that the Sens will have to give one more year than everyone else, and about a million dollars more per year than everyone else (and more than what the precious RD is actually worth).

The Ottawa Tax....

Poll Question

Saturday Ottawa plays Montreal at home. It is the last and only home game of the year. If the loser of that game in regulation receives 1 pick higher in the draft (say 7th vs 8th pick, who would you want to win and why?

I feel that Arizona is the only team with a winnable game (cal) on their schedule. I mean besides the Montreal vs Ottawa game, which is a petty equal on paper.

I can answer this question very specifically...

My brother (stupid habs fan) and I have a yealry standing bet concerning Ottawa vs Montreal. So...if Ottawa wins Sat, I get a free Keg dinner. And i would gladly give that up for one or two spots higher in the draft and a 1 to 2% higher chance at winning the draft.

There's always playing the spoiler.

Arizona on track to move to Salt Lake now?! Maybe that will light a fire under them to win some games. Or they'll just mail it in.

Watching ARI @ VAN in OT. Wow. They suck. On the PP. 4 on 3. They let a D-man in Hronek get a breakaway and then gets hauled down, get a OT penalty shot. At least Connor Ingram just stopped it

edit: Arizona just scored!! Nice

If the Sens lose tonight in TBL in regulation combined with a MTL win in NYI..... that would set up a great possible loss against the Habs on Saturday. If that happens too - then the Sens would almost be guaranteed a 5th or 6th place finish. Fingers crossed

Something admirable about a team with nothing to gain by winning, trying their best against a superior opponent, and doing well in spite of the odds.
