Exposing the secrets of the world isn’t a meltdown.
My family is also doing more than ok, we’ve also been living on own for almost a full calendar year now.
My point has been made, back to regular scheduled programming of talking about how the #1 prospect pool in hockey is an issue, along with culture (despite players and media talking all offseason about how good it apparently was), and how the Sabres season ended in November despite us being 4 points out with 5 to play with a regulation win tonight.
How rude am I to give a pause to the awful hockey takes on here to shine some light on the world - Swedish_Jesus
I've said my piece on the Out by November aspect already, no sense rehasing it.
Now Culture is interesting... I have always felt that Sports Culture should be defined as "winning" and aligning everything reasonable to driving that end result... From the Ownership, through the Front Office and into the Coaching ranks and ultimately into the Players.
Now, doing more research, I came across an interest article that I think does a good job of helping to understanding what Culture really is.
Can't get URL to work, but here is the article you can copy/past... sirc.ca/blog/building-a-culture-of-excellence/
They proport that there are 2 dimensions that need to be balanced between "Person" and Performance, then charted in a Matrix with a Culture of Excellence oriented the the very top right quadrant which is a subsection of a the broader right top quadrant marked as the "Culture of Quality". The Culture of Excellence is that which consists of high levels between Person and Performance described as "Sustained high performance and personal thriving".
Conversely, a Culture of Inclusion (Left top Quadrant) is described as "Poor to Medicare performance, moderate to strong personal engagement and satisfaction". Further, A Culture of Apathy (Bottom left quadrant) is "Poor to Medicare performance, personal engagement and satisfaction", while a Culture of Harassment (Bottom right Quadrant is " High performance and adverse personal consequences".
The objective is to be in the very top right sub-quadrant.. but need to move into the Top right quadrant first.
I'd say the Sabres were in the Culture of Apathy (Bottom left quadrant) for several years, then fought to become a Culture of Inclusion (Top left quadrant) under Adams, Granato and Okposo... That is where the Org has stalled out.
Culture of Inclusion "where emphasis isn't placed on winning, but on participation enjoyment and forming positive social connections". Holy crap if that doesn't define the Sabres what does... Good vibes baby, good vibes!
They certainly are not in a Culture of Quality and sure a poop have no clue about a Culture of Excellence. Culture of Excellence is when organizations intentionally and consistently work to improve each dimension. With this GM acquiring Stillman, Johnson, Cliffy and bringing back Okie, Girgs, Jost, Bryson... While the Coach elevates Okie, Greenway and others to L1, while players go along to get along... They have not demonstrated the capability to intentionally optimize.
So, we we say a Good Culture, are we defining good vibes, or intentionality to optimize. it is a rhetorical question as we all know the answer. |

Nerds and lonely women created the bolded...Terry is a nerd...his wife (sugar baby) must've been lonely...the Sabres are the result.

It’s way more simple than you realize my man
it’s like this: I design a bike path that has a steady incline of .01% and I tell people it’s free to use
i don’t tell then there’s random 1% inclines designed to wipe you out on your bike
but don’t worry, my brother fixes bicycles and he opened a shop near the mid-point of the path
now, people come to his shop to fix their bikes and he gives me a 10% cut.
that’s literally what happened
they designed a crap society that was prone to stupidity and obesity, fed them garbage, told them to breed and waited for the Nature to do it’s thing, when it did, they gave us free money and a 1 year vacation and no one did anything but buy a bunch more crap with it all like humans do
it’s so god damn simple dude, it’s literally what you did to your wife and what you are doing to your family, it’s not a conspiracy, you are a horrible person
unfortunately most of the world is like you, and they are better than you are at it so they actually run the world and let morons like you lap up your trickle down economics
must be some grand conspiracy - 3rd GM's the charm
And that is what exactly ? Play the cards I’ve been dealt ?
70% of society doesn’t even know there is a poker game, the other 20% don’t question it and mock the conspiracy theorists at the table, then there is the 10% who can piece it all together and acknowledge much of everything you have been conditioned to believe as a truth is a farce.
My wife is happy, my kid is healthy, and I’m in a much better financial situation then I would have been if I listened to the masses a few years ago.
I’ll just continue to live in my bubble of being a young, dumb, whack job conspiracy theorist.
You all can continue to live under the decades long psyop.
Can we go back to the awful hockey talk that transpires on this blog day in and day out now ?

I mean I guess it's a success of drafting well and often. It's certainly not a direct result of NHL success, but it can certainly lead to it... with competent coaching, management and ownership.
So, no. It is not a measure of success. If anything, it's more a measure of failure. But contextually it can lead to success, but not directly.

This is fascinating. We've long had debates about what 'culture' means exactly and how one quantifies and contextualizes it. I think this is a good start. The Sabres are definitely stuck on CoI. I believe they intended on moving to CoQ but figured out that that wasn't happening by Thanksgiving. So they settled into CoI for the rest of the year, again striving to reach CoQ by next season.
And god (frank)ing help me if this poopstain runs it back a 2nd time in a row. You know Jost, Okposo, Olofsson are done, but acquiring like players is flat out incompetence.
FWIW I don't think he does and I think he realized his massive error. |
