I'll try to answer for 99% of us that understand what "criticism" means to us.
a) Pettersson is a NHL hockey player that plays for our favourite hockey team, he scores goals, gets assists, wins faceoffs, plays good defensive hockey. There are also times when he doesn't score goals, or get any assists, loses faceoffs and plays poor defensive hockey. These are always pointed out both good and bad, as is with all players and coaches, that is what the basis of hockey conversations are built upon.
b) Pettersson salary both present and future have been discussed, and as we all know his negotiated salary is based on everything in the above statement. Now, you nor I did not negotiate that salary with Pettersson, a real proven, experienced guy in the NHL negotiated Pettersson salary. There is absolutely nothing any of us can do or say that will change any of the salary that Pettersson will receive.
c) I do not have my head in the sand because Pettersson is in a slump and makes kazillions of dollars, so not really sure why you think we should all be spazzed and continually b!tch about Pettersson.
d) There is criticism and constructive criticism which can be good basis for hockey discussions. Then there is constant non stop criticism that will kill a hockey conversation, and it then is just plain old b!tching. - Makita

Top centre's and top paid centre's should not be made excuses for, due to needing better wingers . Top centre's/ paid centre's should make the wingers around THEM better . EP wants the big check , well it comes with big responsibilities and expectations. |

I just flew in today for work, I’ve got an early rise tomorrow. Hotel bed and tv are a lot more comfy for this old guy. - Pacificgem
6 hrs on/off the road today down to Cochrane/HWY 1 for the Carbon Tax protests now Oilers game going on. Leafs look to be in PO mode vs a very good FLA team. That Ekholm is a beauty d man not enough credit IMO. Time for a nice big tall glass of vintners delight while the tubes in the stereo heat up for the night.

The DBacks got lucky. I'm gonna sit back and enjoy the Ohtani years. Kids got potential. He's already financing gambling rings in year 1 of his 700 mil contract. Luckily, nobody here is a Dodgers fan. |

Actually if you compare it to the others in his AAV range it isn't that bad. He's around the 50th highest paid Dman in the league. Hughes is getting robbed. |

Again for a second pair dman, he’s overpaid imo. There’s a bunch of second pair guys getting 3-4 mil and that is the range he should be in. I’d take Tanev over him at his price for example. |

Exactly. And being in the top scoring and top defensive center metrics is exactly that expectation imo. |

Sure. But my point is around 6 mil seems to be the going rate for 2nd pair guys. There will be bargains and overpaid players in every role in the league. Myers isn't underpaid nor is he overpaid. |

Myers tied for 44th highest paid D.
24th for RS D.
They don’t grow on trees in a LH dominant sport.

Sure. Brayden mcnabb is 2.8, Alec Martinez who is way better is 4.5, over on Colorado we have Manson who is so much better it’s laughable at 5.25. There’s tons of examples of Guys who get paid 3-5 mil range that are leaps and bounds better than Myers. |

I wouldn't Myers is twice the Dman Tanev could ever dream to be, hence why he is paid appropriately. |

If Myers could defend against top players like Tanev can, I might agree. I’m maybe in the minority but I’m not paying 2 million for an upgrade in offence that is not as good at defending. They shored up the defending with Cole and Soucy, myers is not in the same league defensively, there isn’t a stat you can look at against top opposition that suggests he should be on the ice against any top lines ever. That’s why he plays under 20 minutes, as he should. |

And that’s where we differ, Manson is better in every area of the ice for less. The others are much better defensively. |

The resurgence of Myers is a big part of it. Especially with the type of minutes he plays. |
