Need Chicago to score a couple more goals please. - WhiskeyMan
Not going to happen, Chicago used up their goal quota against the Flyers. |

Point percentage be damned, the Flyers still clinging to 3rd place. They just have to put together a 3 game winning streak and that should do it. It starts Friday against Buffalo. - jd250
Looks to me like Buffalo is playing quite well. I hope you're right but that's a tall task. |

Not at all ... nothing has changed. I think Torts has done a lot of good things for this franchise and credit him for a lot more than you would. But facts are facts. He has been unraveling over the past few weeks here as I posted before, and I believe its impacted the team and worse, and I hate drama. Add to this my belief that the number 1 thing that has sunk this team is the wretched power play and Torts has apparently just accepted a bad power play instead of doing something more visible about it, and what I think are dumb decisions to play forwards only 5 minutes in a game, or worse playing them less than 10 minutes when you have 11 forwards. These are just actions I cannot justify or get behind. The difference between you and I is I base my opinions not on reputation or the past, but on actions. - jd250
This is also part of the pattern where when you're called out on it, you deny it. You'll continue to deny until you come full circle. Way later then the rest of the world and painfully later at the point when it's completely irrefutable and you no longer have the ability to stand by your fantasy. At dinner time, you'll admit that the sun came up today. The wretched PP and the poor lineup decisions are not new to the last few weeks. It's been going on all season long. This team was never what you thought it was and Tortorella was never the coach you thought he is. |

The 3-2-1 system would make too much sense. The old heads would never go for it. - Phillywhiteout
I hate it. The better option is to go back and allow ties. What was wrong with ties? Soccer has them and no one complains. I also think the league has to reduce the number of regular season games, start the season October 1 and end March 31, thus April and May is hockey madness. Let the NBA have June. The fact that the NHL season bleeds into June is a joke. |

there is no role for ND. simple as that. the isles and every team in the league will play their game with or without ND.
who has a better future with the flyers, brink or ND? - hello it's me 2050
In the first period ND engaged Martin who just shrugged (as if to say I have hockey to play) and skated away. At the point, ND was neutered and disappeared for the rest of the game. He is akin to an appendix - a useless remnant of an appendage who, in a best-case scenario, won't burst and send you to the emergency room. |

Soccer is a joke and the NHL shouldn't follow that sport in any way whatsoever. I think a team should be rewarded for winning in regulation. Too many times I see teams playing for the point at the end of tie game in regulation. I agree that the NHL should be done by Memorial Day weekend. Who cares what the NBA has or doesn't have. That league could fold tomorrow for all I care. Once hockey season is over it's time to wait for football season to start up again other than some select golf and tennis tournaments. |

It would be impossible for the NHL to reduce the number of games. They would not survive financially.

An outstanfing analogy.
The fact that he was put in the lineup in a must win game over far more talented players is an indictment on the coach |

Do you want to talk hockey or do you want to troll? Last chance.
No one said the PP or lineup decisions were new. I didn't like them but I could live with those deficiencies because 1. the team was performing and 2. Torts seemed in control. Over the past few weeks it's clear to me Torts is struggling to keep himself together and the team is underperforming. Thus all the things I could live with are becoming much more significant. I still believe the PP is mostly on the players, but I just don't see Torts talking about it nearly enough and that concerns me. If I were coach, it would be the only thing I would be talking about because all season it has been costing the team wins or causing the team to have to put much more effort in a win than they should.
And remember, when Torts got hired I was not a fan. I called it a "lazy hire" and was concerned with all the drama he would bring. Since you have all my posts from years back, I am sure you can bring up my posts around the time Torts was hired and post it here so everyone will know I am not lying. But Torts won me over. I am aligned to his way of seeing the game and evaluating players. I think his press conferences have been very insightful and they have become much watch for me. I love that he has come in here and told the truth about the state of the team and the franchise, and that he was open and honest about the medical staff and fixed it. Ultimately Torts is the reason Fletcher got fired and Dave Scott retired. So Torts has done a lot of good things for this franchise and I acknowledge him; just like I acknowledge my Tribal Chief! |

Shootouts are worse than ties. Does the NFL break ties with a FG kicking contest? Does MLB use a home run derby to break ties? Using a gimmick to break ties cheapens the sport.
Just play 10 minutes of OT and if the games still tied, then it’s a tie. |

How has he played the last 3 games? Frost is playing with the Flyers two best wingers, what else? - jd250
Why wouldn't he? He is their best center option. Like it or not, right now he is their 1C. Is he a 1C in the league? No. On the Flyers? Yes.... |

Nah, when and if the Flyers ever get to be a really good team again, which isn't going to happen with Tortorella involved. That's when the comments will take off. - MJL
so now torts is the reason for the low traffic/comments? you are the best mayor cliff. what else can we place blame on torts? lousy weather last few days?
what lineup would you put on friday against the sabres? lets see it and discuss. |

I could live with that though. I'd also change the rule in OT on penalties. If there is a penalty I think they should go to 3 on 2 instead of adding the extra skater and making it 4 on 3. |

Ok, that's probably true. Then I say get rid of OT, this would allow the players a bit more rest, especially down the stretch. |

Have a few preseason games starting around the 10th of September and start the season on the first day of Fall. All leagues should reduce their number of games, but that will never happen due to financial reasons. I mean, friggin baseball plays 162 games. That's ridiculous.

This statement was included in your first post in reply to me. "The difference between you and I is I base my opinions not on reputation or the past, but on actions." You set the tone. You have no say in last chance or have any control. I don't need you to or care if you respond
No one said the PP or lineup decisions were new. I didn't like them but I could live with those deficiencies because 1. the team was performing and 2. Torts seemed in control. You were told numerous times that the situation the Flyers are playing under, was not going to last long. That the style and way that they play was not sustainable. The Flyers coaching staff does not know how to improve the PP. You also don't understand Tortorella. He is not losing control. He is trying to manipulate and push buttons. He is setting the situation up for if they don't make the playoffs, its because the team is soft and has no balls. If they do make the playoffs, then he is the genius coach who pushed the right buttons. He is not genuine. He is manipulative and disturbed.
And remember, when Torts got hired I was not a fan. I called it a "lazy hire" and was concerned with all the drama he would bring. You've been fooled by Tortorella in the same manner that you were fooled by Fletcher. That's the reality. Nothing Tortorella has done is going to lead to anything.

I don't understand the issue with ties, and I never will. Why is it a joke if two teams play to a tie? OT and shootouts have not fixed the issue of teams playing for a point at the end of games. And you see what 3 on 3 OT has become, pretty much an unwatchable product. Just go back to ties, and give the players that much more rest in the regular season. The product will be much better down the stretch and into the playoffs. |
