I don't understand the issue with ties, and I never will. Why is it a joke if two teams play to a tie? OT and shootouts have not fixed the issue of teams playing for a point at the end of games. And you see what 3 on 3 OT has become, pretty much an unwatchable product. Just go back to ties, and give the players that much more rest in the regular season. The product will be much better down the stretch and into the playoffs. - jd250 The old saying is that it's like kissing your sister. Like, I want to see one team declared a winner at any sporting event. Everyone is different of course. |

This statement was included in your first post in reply to me. "The difference between you and I is I base my opinions not on reputation or the past, but on actions." You set the tone. You have no say in last chance or have any control. I don't need you to or care if you respond - MJL
Its very simple, I come on here to talk hockey, not troll others. If you want to sit on here all day and argue with me over what opinions I used to have versus now, I have better things to do. People on this forum are not entertained by your antics, so just keep it to hockey.
You were told numerous times that the situation the Flyers are playing under, was not going to last long. That the style and way that they play was not sustainable. The Flyers coaching staff does not know how to improve the PP. You also don't understand Tortorella. He is not losing control. He is trying to manipulate and push buttons. He is setting the situation up for if they don't make the playoffs, its because the team is soft and has no balls. If they do make the playoffs, then he is the genius coach who pushed the right buttons. He is not genuine. He is manipulative and disturbed. - MJL
You approach everything around this team as a giant conspiracy. Torts is disturbed, manipulating button pusher. Jones is his stooge. Briere is being manipulated by both. The Triumphant will never last. The team will fail. There is no rebuild. Briere is lying to us. And on and on and on .. its sad. I understand you are jaded from decades of being a Flyers fan as are most. As for me, I do look at things as the sun will rise tomorrow and thus a new day and new hope. I root for the team and hope for the best, in the end what else can I do? I am certainly not going to come on this forum daily and preach doom and gloom, it's just not my style.
You've been fooled by Tortorella in the same manner that you were fooled by Fletcher. That's the reality. Nothing Tortorella has done is going to lead to anything. - MJL
But things Torts has done have already lead to things. I just pointed them out to you. And add to that, the development of young players that before Torts came were stagnant, and the revamping of the development staff. Torts has had a hand in all these things. You just have no credibility if you will not simply acknowledge that some good things have happened around here since he came the team. |

I want to see winners and losers as well, but not like the way its being decided now. I don't get any joy if the Flyers win in OT or a shootout because to me its a fake win, the game was decided in a non hockey way. I would hate baseball games to be decided by a home run contest, or Football games decided on field goals. I even hate the way college football is playing OT, because to me it's not real football to start on the other team's 25 yard line. For the NHL, I would rather see no OT and 82 games, or 10 minute OTs 4 on 4, with ties if still no winner, and 76 game seasons (play 4 games against each team in your division, and 2 games against everyone else). Right now there is too much hockey, the season is too long and the product is poor down the stretch. |

Shootouts are worse than ties. Does the NFL break ties with a FG kicking contest? Does MLB use a home run derby to break ties? Using a gimmick to break ties cheapens the sport.
Just play 10 minutes of OT and if the games still tied, then it’s a tie. - BiggE
I agree. I’d go with 10 mins of 3 on 3. Most games would end in that scenario. If it ends in a hard fought tie, so be it. |

well I am entertained by his antics. cracks me up really as he thinks he is this important internet "figure". |

You need to follow your own advice. I find showing how absurd your opinions are on a daily basis, very entertaining.

Your style is to blindly follow and take every word Tortorella says as gospel. You're easily manipulated. Combined with your poor knowledge of the game and you're the target fan of this team. What you fail to state is that I wind up being proven correct and you wrong. When this team earns that from me, is when they'll get it from me.

They don't lead to things. Minor improvement is all. This team will never go anywhere with Tortorella involved. He is toxic and unprofessional. He is the worst coach yuo could have for player development. You still don't realize that. |

Why wouldn't he? He is their best center option. Like it or not, right now he is their 1C. Is he a 1C in the league? No. On the Flyers? Yes.... - mr4tno
I agree .. my point here was only there is no excuse now. Frost is playing with the Flyer's best wingers, so hopefully he can perform well down the stretch here. |

First of all, my knowledge of the game is superior to yours, that is why you are so fearful of everything I post. You have this delusion that this in your pond and you are the big fish. I hate to break it to you, you're NOT! And what exactly have you been proven right about? What? All you do is come on here every day and state the franchise is a mess and the team is not going anywhere. Everything you state is a variation of this theme. Thus if the team does not make the playoffs, you will say "See .. I told you Torts Sucks as a coach" even though the team this year was picked to be in the bottom 10 of the league. If the team does make the playoffs, you will say "See .. I told you it was not a rebuild, now this team will lose first round and get a bad pick". And so on and so on. I know it, and everyone else here knows it. You actively root for the team to fail at any level so you can swim around, pound your chest and say "See .. I was right!" Well, sorry to burst your bubble, but I have exposed you many times as the fraud you are and I will continue to do so on this forum, so get used to it! |

Buffalos goalie was a top 10 goalie for quite a bit this season (according to NHL.com).
He is now ranked 11th.
Buffalo seems to have a good goalie once in awhile but can't put a good team around them.
No particular order

Biron
Miller
Lehner

I hate it. The better option is to go back and allow ties. What was wrong with ties? Soccer has them and no one complains. I also think the league has to reduce the number of regular season games, start the season October 1 and end March 31, thus April and May is hockey madness. Let the NBA have June. The fact that the NHL season bleeds into June is a joke. - jd250
ties are ridiculous |
|
|
|
They will never go back to ties and they shouldn't! All games should have a winner and a loser. Soccer is a joke and the NHL shouldn't follow that sport in any way whatsoever. I think a team should be rewarded for winning in regulation. Too many times I see teams playing for the point at the end of tie game in regulation. I agree that the NHL should be done by Memorial Day weekend. Who cares what the NBA has or doesn't have. That league could fold tomorrow for all I care. Once hockey season is over it's time to wait for football season to start up again other than some select golf and tennis tournaments. - Phillywhiteout

The media is starting to turn on Torts. Some headlines from today include "Could John Tortorella already be wearing out his welcome" and "Tortorella's criticism of Flyers is unfounded". Russ Cohen today said he thought there was a 50/50 chance Torts would be moved upstairs next season and he sees Craig Berube, who is best friends with Keith Jones, every day. |

It's on like Donkey Kong. And you wouldn't know a blue line from a close line! And for the public record, which team is in 3rd place today in the Metro? The team that you and others said had already given up 3rd place because of point percentage? And again, I personally do not evaluate teams based on OT wins or losses because they are NOT real hockey. I only look at regulation wins and losses. Right now the Flyers are under .500 based on regulation wins and losses. Before the last 2 games they were 1 game above .500. Sorry if this concept is over your head. Maybe you should pick your head up from that stat sheet and open your eyes and see other perspectives other than your own. |

wtf does torts have to offer in any management/ advisor type role? all he knows is coaching. He would have zero insight for the modern game. He will not be scouting or breaking down players or anything of that sort. He would more likely sabotage things then be a help.
So what will they do seek his opinion on trades? players? that is/would be a joke. yes danny go get the coach more 10 goal scorers who can pk. that is the path to the cup.
that being said I do not see him moving upstairs. |

You're actually showing that you still don't understand the NHL standings and how they work. They're in 3rd place in the Metro now because they have the 3rd most points in the metro. Today is not the same as the other day! Please tell me you're not that stupid. That you don't understand that the standings 3 days ago are different from today. You're telling me that I don't know the blue line from a close line while you admit that you ignore hockey in some delusional belief that it's not real hockey. Your concept does not exist. If you don't win the game, you've lost. There are no ties. A loss whether it is in regulation, OT or the shootout is a loss.
Is this an example of how you're going to expose me? Nobody would see a perspective that is unintelligent, delusional and not reality. You've made yourself look like an idiot. Again!
You're trying to fight back. That's great, good for you. Just understand that you can't. Your post above is pathetically stupid. You don't have it in you. |

How do folks around here feel about Berube as a coach?
I know there's a lot of talk about Torts moving "upstairs". Move upstairs to do what? Co-GM with Briere? With his ego I don't see him happy unless he can feel like he's the boss. |

I like him better than Tortorella. I'd reserve the right to pass further judgement based on his performance if hired. Tortorella moving upstairs into management is terrifying.

Wasn't the shootout added because one of the TV contracts wanted a true end to the game...a winner. I think it was FOX, so they added the shootout to appease the money. The problem is, that teams almost seem happy to play for the OT to get the point, and the second point is a bonus if they get it. The 3 on 3 is a crappy gimmick too. Why change from the regular structure of the game. No other sports league in the world changes how the game is played just to finish off a game and have a winner.
Personally can't stand it. It's messed with history, records, standings and who actually should make the playoffs.

So you’d prefer a gimmick point over both team splitting a point? Only answer is the 3 point system but they won’t do it; they love the “parity” |

The structure is changed because they want to have a winner in head to head play. 3 on 3 makes that more likely. As far as the shootout, when it happens, the fans are on their feet. The NHL sees that and overall it's popular.
