Too many posts to read all but I saw the discussion on TIES.
My take - Keep the OT as is and the shootout but change it to a limit of 7 rounds.
If no winner then the game is a TIE. AND NO LOSER POINT.
I wouldn't think that there would be a lot of ties as most shootouts don't go that far. No advantage to pushing for overtime for the "extra" point.

why not simplify it further. no regular season OT. no 3 on 3. if you don't win in regulation it goes straight to a shootout. eliminate the loser point. 2 points for a win and that's it.
save the excitement of OT for the playoffs. 3 on 3 is trash. |

So TSN is talking a lot about Torts...lots of negative feedback. Boudreau tears a strip off of his approach.
Watch all 4 videoas...he is crashing hard...lol. Sooner than I thought.

Saw most of them. The issue to me is that the coach can handle that much better. He can be respectful at the presser and display dissatisfaction with his team. State that the way they played, especially in the 2nd period was unacceptable. That they have to be better and they have to find a way to fix it. Gets the point across. Then the coach can in the privacy of the locker room, tear into the team to their face. That's the professional way to handle it. Instead, he goes off the deep end and says the team has no balls. The players who have been playing their asses off for him. Completely buying in to the shot blocking and the pain that comes with that. Skating and playing their asses off. Now, all of a sudden they don't have any balls? That is completely unprofessional and uncalled for. There is a lot of negative press going on towards Tortorella and many saying its the beginning of the end. I pray that they're correct but I have my doubts.

Boudreau also said Torts knows his team better than he does….and has a better idea of how far he can push them.
This is….this has been Torts for 20 plus years. Nothing he does or says surprises me. |

I like the 3 on 3…I think it needs a tweak or two so that there’s less wasted time….but it’s far better than the shoot out. I would expand it to 10 minutes….no winner then it’s a tie. |

It doesn't surprise me either.
My point in posting the link is it is going National now in Canada that Torts is a problem, and the team could be starting to tune him out already. It is not just the opinion of those who don't like Torts. It is the opinion of broadcasters, former coaches, and former players that played for him. I would be willing to look past the Seeler extension if we are down to the last couple of weeks of Torts as coach. |

One thing we know is that Torts won't change so until the Flyers make a move we know what to expect. Glad to see some national coverage on this, and for the most part, I agree w what was stated in the videos. However, I think Jonesy loves this stuff along w Torts ego and shock value.

I know I kinda of sorta luke-warmly gave Tortorella a pass yesterday for his presser meltdown. After reading so many of your arguments and positions, reviewing the presser again, and reading so many articles, blurbs or interviews on the subject, I change my mind. Yes, a lot of credit goes to the many posters here and I try to maintain an open mind and not get wed to a particular opinion. So on this, I am now on board with that was not a good display nor necessarily the best way to inspire your floundering team. But I can’t help but wonder who exactly was he calling out. True the team played like pure watery poop in the 2nd period and was single-handed saved by the Herculean effort on one Ivan Fedotov. But sometimes that happens and that’s where goalies can sometimes steal
A game or even a series. They gutted it out in the 3rd and played better.
Then I go back to the Courturier benching which I was critical of the coach and his way of handling it. Aside from him apologizing to Sandstrom and publicly announcing it, has he taken any blame or responsibility for any of the misfortune this year? While the players play and deserve most of the credit and blame in any game, the coach does have to be accountable as well. We see players all the time in interviews say “I need to play better” or “yeah that 2b and 3rd goal is like to have back”. Where is the coach saying, “maybe my system needs tweaking” or “had we practiced the PowerPlay more” or “I shouldn’t have expected so much from that guy coming off of a 2year injury and playing over 20 minutes a game the first 2/3 of the season at age 30”.
Shake my head. |

Nothing would surprise me….I said that the other day that his end may be closer then some think.
I think with Torts it’s a mixed bag…there are things I like that he’s gotten done this year….but other things that make it hard to see it going on over the long term…a lot of these same ex players and coach’s were singing his praises a couple of weeks ago as a Jack Adams candidate. I’m in Canada as well |

Tortorella is burning the boats in an attempt to get the Flyers into the playoffs this year. I don’t know why anyone has a problem with this. He’s using every bullet this year and will have nothing left for next season meaning his tenure is almost up. Everyone should be happy |

Why would any intelligent hockey person (which you are not) consider evaluating a team based on the number of shootout wins or losses they have, or evaluate the team based on whether they win 3 on 3 OTs. What possible information could one gleam from those results? Does 3 on 3 ever happen in a real NHL game? Nope. The lowest you can go is 4 on 3 if there is a power play. There are 1312 games in an NHL season and so far there have been 40 penalty shots, which means only 3% of the games have penalty shots and only 33% or about 15 goals are scored on those shots. So why would anyone care about these statistics. They mean NOTHING when evaluating a team. - jd250
Because it ends in OT or shootout we should throw out the 60 minutes they played prior? |

That's not a boat that needed to be burned publicly. He could've just applied a little heat publicly and burned the boat in the room privately.
It's an indication of the limited tactics and skill he has as a coach. Of the old school and archaic methods he is still stuck on.
