Yes, under the situation: If two or more clubs are tied in points during the regular season. I was never talking about this scenario, I was referring to the END of the regular season when all teams have played the same number of games. In this case, points and then tie breakers determine what team is ahead of the other team. The fact that two teams are tied in points in the regular season so points percentage is used is not relevant to the post I made. - jd250
Points % is STILL the first tie breaker at the end of the season.

The guy didn't even have a practice with the team yet. Torts even admitted that he put Fedotov in a very hard situation last night. It was clearly an act of desperation given Ersson was once again off. Fedotov made some nice saves and was also lucky on a few of them. You just wouldn't know it because the closest you have come to ice are the cubes in your freezer. - jd250
Yes he did...there is videos of it on twitter |

My first thought when I saw this pic was " Why is Clarke there?"
Says it all. - TheFreak
Nothing says "New Era" like a guy hanging around who played for the team in the 70s and 80s.

Curious how you feel about Clarke in this photo.
Changes my ass, same old country club FO as it’s always been. - flyer_nutter
Photoshopped! We have been told Clarke does not interact with the team and spends all of his time in Florida |

If Frost hadn't scored that goal the Flyers would actually be 19th in P% at .539.
If they lose their last six games in regulation they will finish at .506. |

disagree as sure they could have - hello it's me 2050
I think they planned for hart being gone, thats why theyve drafted so many goalies lately, signed kolosov last year, and tried to get fedetov here earlier. They knew it was coming, maybe just not the exact time

great for Torts - his bar is so low that he now gets credit for actually speaking to the media and not storming off. He acted like an ass as usual. ND playing 5 minutes was awesome. The Isles definitely felt his presence. - Flyfly
You had a problem with his presser. I don’t know why. He didn’t do the thing I just listed, that he’s done in the past. He didn’t send out an assistant. He didn’t blow up at the media. So what was so bad about his presser? |

I had no issue with the presser. Fedotov was put in a hard position and the piss poor effort in the 2nd made it worse. Baptism by fire. - WhiskeyMan
Absolutely. Torts admitted to putting Fedorov is a bad spot and gave him the credit he deserved. There was nothing wrong with what Torts said. |

I agree but they could have gotten some assets in a trade for him. So that was a miss. - WhiskeyMan
They could NOT trade Hart because of the impending decision on charges. That same situation applied to every player that was on that team and potentially involved. |

His contract would have rolled over into next season, AFAIK. - Tomahawk
From the Flyers' perspective, they're in a playoff race and their goaltending has gone to the toilet. Fedotov was available and they see him as potential means to stop the bleeding in net. They felt like they had no choice. |

Sam was very good in LHV, but he was overplayed, and was worn out come the playoffs. He had played like double the amount of games that year than he had played before.
He has played in 46 games this year...46 as a rookie....has over 20 wins in his rookie year. He was thrust into the starters job, and for the most part, has been very good.
Patience is needed with the goaltending situation - TheFreak
well your definition of very good and min differ I suppose.
no he hasnt been very good for the most part. overall like many of the flyers he has been average. |

sorry the player doesn't get a total pass. he just cant handle a heavy load. that is on management for not recognizing it.
comparing ex selke and sam are to way diff cases. |

Yeah. Was probably necessary to bring him over before he went and signed with another Russian team as well.
The downside is that he's got UFA leverage in a few months and there's no guarantee he sticks around. |

at the end of the day, talent aside, the coach has no answers.
the fact he has never addressed the PP and tried to fix it is a fireable offense. |

At the end of the season, I never saw a team make the playoffs based on point percentage. Have you? - jd250
The end of the season is different, because all teams will have played the same amount of games. So then the point totals are fixed, not a moving number. The PPG can still be looked at, but when all teams have played the same number of games and there are no more games to play, there aren't any variables left in play.
Pretty simple concept really. |

Torts is a jack@$$
The team is spent because players were overused and he pushed them to play with game 7 intensity each and every game. They are out of gas and while yes, they can push themselves and ramp it up for a short time like the last 10 mins of regulation, it’s not sustainable for 60 minutes and leaves them totally drained going forward.
For Torts to question their intensity and effort is just despicable. They are trying their best. If the head coach was trying his best, Nic D would never be in the lineup, Brink wouldn’t be sat for a clearly washed up Atkinson and Rocky would have been fired months ago.
John Tortorella is a total fraud and if Jones, Briere and Hilferty think he’s the best choice to coach this team going forward, they’re idiots. |

Teams are taking away the stretch pass. The Flyers cannot string together 2-3 passes consistently to exit the D zone and enter the O zone. That's a good portion of the issue. They forced the stretch last night and the Isles took advantage of it. - mickel25 This is a good point by you! At one point during the game last I found myself yelling at the TV that they couldn't complete ONE pass. It was quite embarrassing to look that disjointed at this time of year. TK can be really bad sometimes with his off kilter passing. No contract for you!! |

Where would they be in the standings? Yeah, they might have more energy now, but where would they be in the standings. This team has to play balls to the wall every night cause they simply aren't talented enough to play otherwise. Just my opinion of course.

So in your mind if Couts had played 17 minutes a game instead of 20+, and if Sanheim had played 22 minutes per game instead of 27 earlier in the season, the Flyers would be playing better now? How else could this Flyers team have played in order to compete? They don't have the talent and elite skill, so they have to win with effort and will. Are you saying it would have better if the players didn't try to so hard earlier in the season so they would have more juice now? - jd250
Yes, better player management, playing ALL NHL level players in all games, and not playing the ridiculous 11-7 format they were playing would have helped out for sure. Throw into it how hard the team has to play just to compete, it is not a sustainable level of play and wears on players both physically and mentally.
This year wasn't supposed to be about competing for the playoffs. It was supposed to be a year of growth for the young guys, and building on that. Not pushing for the playoffs. Torts has set his own priorities for the team, and looked past their capabilities...and now is throwing his players under the bus.

You’re not wrong, but it’s not a smart strategy for what should be rebuilding team. Under Torts, they will either limp into the final playoff spot, get smoked in round one and pick 17th or they will just miss and pick in the 14-16 range.
Under a smarter coach, one who understands where this team is at, they probably finish with 76-81 points and pick in the 6-9 range. Or perhaps pick in the top 5 as in that situation both Seeler and Laughton are probably dealt.
Which of the above benefits the team more going forward? |

What do the standing matter if they are too tired to compete in the last few regular season games, let alone the playoffs? If they finish 9th of worse in the conference, all the hard work and effort is pretty much wasted, apart from getting the guys to play a more complete game. The original goal of the season changed 20 games in, and they are going to pay the price for it in the coming weeks andlower draft pick.
