The advantage this team had was effort level for 3/4 of the season. Teams have matched their effort level recently. Teams are also structured better this time of year. They are able to take away things the Flyers want to do. The Flyers do not have the talent to overcome those things most nights.
Couple that with very average goaltending for the last 15 games or so and you have the current situation. Some of the players are gassed. Some of it is that they are just not talented enough. - mickel25
The end of the season is different, because all teams will have played the same amount of games. So then the point totals are fixed, not a moving number. The PPG can still be looked at, but when all teams have played the same number of games and there are no more games to play, there aren't any variables left in play.
I was strictly talking about goalies there. - ClaudeFather
Yeah I think Ersson is legit fatigued. His numbers are a lot better with 2+ days rest. Playing so many more games than planned has hurt him. You can only dig so deep.

Tortorella said the team had no balls. Thats the same as calling out their heart.

Why do you continually lie like this? Torts did NOT say the team has no balls. Never not once! This is exactly what he said in summary:
About the second period, "embarrassing, soft, 1 guy played (Fedotov)"
"Still regular season, but these games are a whole different plane, we finding things out about certain players. Some players don't have a clue how to play, or don't have it in them to play in these situations, and this is why I'm glad we are playing them."
About rest, "if you don't have enough balls to play in these types of games, rest doesn't do us any good."
So clearly Torts never said the team didn't have balls, but Tort's clearly said there were certain players that didn't have balls enough to play in this game. And you are just pissed because you know Frost and Farabee are at the top of his list, as they should be!

Yes he did...there is videos of it on twitter - TheFreak
Wrong. The team did not have a practice on Sunday or Monday. Torts lamented that the team needs practice but there was just not time on the schedule to have a practice before last night's game. What you saw was a video of Deslauriers shooting pucks at Fedotovs pads as he was doing butterflies with Dillabaugh. That is not team practice, that is simply working on technique and trying to break in new equipment.

wonder who that can be....guess will find out in a few months.
Yes, better player management, playing ALL NHL level players in all games, and not playing the ridiculous 11-7 format they were playing would have helped out for sure. Throw into it how hard the team has to play just to compete, it is not a sustainable level of play and wears on players both physically and mentally.
This year wasn't supposed to be about competing for the playoffs. It was supposed to be a year of growth for the young guys, and building on that. Not pushing for the playoffs. Torts has set his own priorities for the team, and looked past their capabilities...and now is throwing his players under the bus. - TheFreak
I'll grant you this fact. I would have also liked Torts to play 12-6 and just swap out defenseman from night to night. It did not appear to me Torts ever played 11-7 before this season based on what he has said about it, so not sure how it got introduced as a viable option.
Let's cut to the chase. The primary reason the Flyers are in the funk they are in now and the primary reason they have had to work so hard for their wins this season is because they have the worst power play in the league. Even if the Flyers had an average PP at about 18%, they would have at least 5 or 6 more wins and be challenging Carolina for the 2nd spot in the Metro. The PP has really dragged this team down. Bundy correctly pointed out that in the 2nd period of last night's game, the Flyers were actually playing well until they fluttered on the PP, and then the Islanders took the period over after that. The poor PP ruined them against Montreal and Chicago also. The Islanders have the worst PK in the league and the Flyers could barely maintain zone time and execute zone entries. I like Rocky Thompson, but it's time for a new voice for this forward group and power play. The Flyers don't have elite skill, but they have players that should at least give them an average PP, and that would have made the biggest difference in this season.

Yes, this is an interesting question. I am pretty sure Frost and Farabee are topping the list. Everyone was calling Frost a hero last night for tying the game, and I'll give him credit for playing pretty much the final 3 1/2 minutes of the game and getting to the net front to bank in the rebound. But before that tying goal Frost has not having a good game, only 1 shot on goal. Farabee looked to me like he was just going through the motions. I'm sure there are others as well, but not sure who they are.

Frost's line was by far the best line all game long.

So working with the goalie coach and taking shots in a non game environment isn't practising? Not a full scale practice, but yes he has been on the ice with the coaches.
