Deacon Sports and Entertainment has reached an agreement for the sale and continued operations of the Trois-Rivières Lions, pending the approval of the ECHL.
Deacon Sports and Entertainment also announced that ECHL's Newfoundland Growlers are ceasing operations immediately. Any Growlers player who was on an AHL/NHL contract as of March 20 is ineligible to play in the ECHL for the rest of the season. Everyone else is a free agent.

My understanding is they were doing fine until Deacon Sports and Entertainment decided to try to build a new arena in Trois-Riviere, using their cash flow and they went broke.
I do not think it was a Growlers issue, but a terrible ownership issue.
