The Flyers and Wild are on the outside looking in because they slotted too many players too high in the lineup for too long. Not enough depth.
Walker is fine with the Avs at 16-18 min on the 3rd pair. But Seeler and Walker over 20 min over months is not sustainable. MTL was fine with Poehling as a 4th liner but found that playing him higher brought diminishing returns. Ersson may someday be a good goalie but right now is a backup goalie who can’t play more than 40 games. No matter how much Torts hypes Fedotov, he’s still unproven in his prime years. Hathaway is a good 4th liner.
Torts and Guerin have tried to straddle retool and rebuild to squeeze into the playoffs. They both have jack to show for it.

The Flyers have had no finish this entire season The difference is they are not getting good goaltending. This has been a major factor. But not the only one. There have been players on this team that have just stepped up in these last 5 games. Frost 1G, 1A in a -5 (and you can't tell me he is out of gas since it was posted he has played half the minutes of Couts) and Farabee with no points and a -4. They are not the only ones for sure. - jd250
TK 2 assists and a -2 in the last 5 games.
Just saying.

Agreed
Always agreed with the philospophy that one needs to taste losing before they can go onto win
Listening to Boucher towards the end he made some very good points about the 2010 team and the level of experience that helped them that season and I dont disagree with him that the experience of actually fighting for a spot in the playoffs for the younger players is going to help them more than if they had never gone through this
I know there is a popular opinion that the experience line is a cliche or oversold but I disagree with that notion - at some point in time these players need to be pushed and learn what THEY need to do to be a better player in the league
Thanks for the reply! - jackfrost
Tasting losing is one thing..getting blown away by Chicago..Montreal..Buffalo and Columbus during crunch time is another level of losing and not in a good way |

Absolutely wont disagree with you on this - in my original post on this I stated the same. They werent even in these last several games with perhaps the exception being the Islander game. They controlled their destiny and didnt take advantage of the other teams who were behind them at the time. There hasnt been any signs of being hungry enough to lock it in and that doesnt sit well

Whats the RAZZIE equivalent award for coaching....
JORTS will be able to use his mantle space for that instead of the Jack Adams that some of the sheep and a pig were touting he'd be putting there |

Blaming the goalies is such a typical lazy fan response. Clearly shows you don’t know the game. Been that way in Philly for 40+ years now.
This team isn’t good. That’s a fact. They’ve been in a playoff position for so long because the Metro division sucks this year. Everyone upset right now just bought into the fools gold all season long. Long term, this losing streak continuing through the last 4 games would be the best outcome. They need a higher pick to hopefully find a true #1D. Finding elite talent is the only goal at this point and being a bubble team doesn’t get you that talent. I don’t want another 2014-22 stretch where they’re just in endless mediocrity. - Schmojo

Long term it matters zero if they make the playoffs or not. If this team actually wins something in the future most of these guys aren’t here. Talent talent talent - Just5
True but you gotta start someplace
There are a few of these players that have potential and will be here if and when that happens but this team in the here and now even being in a position to compete for a playoff spot was a shock to me whether or not the teams below them at the time who have put on their surge to surpass them now wasnt expected.
The horrendous PP is the result of that lack of the talent you need to progress into being one of those teams. Cant expect middle of the pack numbers from a bunch that wouldnt be higher than the 3rd line on the majority of teams in the NHL with a couple of exceptions

The Metro Division has reminded me of the old Smythe Division to an extent back in the day - perhaps they should rename it the Mediocre Division?

Regardless of the disappointment, it’s was finally a fun year. There was hope. GMDB did the right thing by selling on Walker. Maybe missed some opportunities but could be a fun off season. I just it’s not the penguins in the playoffs |

To be fair until two weeks ago he was in the conversation. But it’s also fair to point out that any award is based on the whole season. The excuses will fly if the Free fall lasts another couple of games, but for those who watched every game we simply know they just don’t have the talent to compete unless they play that Torts game and are committed.
They will get close and I’m sure the temptation will be to roll it all back suggest they took major steps and by doing so not addressing the root problem. They don’t have enough talent. |

DB just didn’t go far enough. He wanted to give the vets a chance, the guys that got them to this point. This is how they repaid him. |

The fraud that's happy after another Flyers loss, so that the focus can be on his loser Suxas! Jorts is still the dumbest phucking nickname known to mankind and TORTS was still considered to be second in voting for the Jack Adams as of a couple weeks ago you stupid MFer!! Oh wait, I forgot. You're a little sniveling attention starved brat! Finally figured out what your issue is! |

For the first time this season, I’m throwing in the towel. Going into the weekend games, I thought we could right the ship because of the easier games on the slate. Now though, they’ve lost me. Almost looks as if they’re quitting on the season and I usually try to stay away from talk like that. I also refrained from any Torts talk all season. Certainly enough good and bad to speak of. In one breath, you can almost say it pretty much was a miracle they were in this spot, this late in the season, with the mediocre talent on the roster. On the other hand, with the PP failure all year, hard to swallow. If they lose out, I can’t see how they retain him. I wouldn’t want another Lavi situation next season, firing him 3 games into a new season. Very disappointing. |

Excellent point. Many of us advocated for him to be like Yzerman was last year and keep the long term rebuild the goal. The acquisition of Johnson was a waste of a 4th and Gurianov was clearly not a move where the GM and the coach were on the same page. |

This was a great year. If they lose out it would be a tremendous year for DB. I was thoroughly entertained by them for most of this year. I had no illusions to what they were. I thought they’d sneak in the playoffs. But the entertainment they provided, DB doing the right things at the deadline and trading Walker, not every GM would do that, and now they are sitting In position to grab one of the top 10-12 players in the draft. That counts. This helps the long term outlook. They will get a very nice player.
Tremendous year. |

DB did fine. He did what he had to do and traded Walker. I’m not a fan of resigning Seeler though. That reeks of the grip torts has on the flyers. |

This is wildly inaccurate. The flyers had no issues when walked and Seeler were paired, the issues arose afterwards. That pairing was very much sustainable. |

6 of 8 teams are bad. That's a bad division, imo. While the top 2 teams are very good, they did beat up on the rest of their teams in the division to get there.
NYR vs div .. 17-6
CAR vs div .. 15-5-4
The Flyers and Blue Jackets are the only 2 teams under .500 against the Metro in the entire eastern conference

I disagree. The Flyers needed a top 4 lefty vet to pair with Drysdale and Seeler was cheap and here already. If they didn’t resign him they would have had to bring in another guy in the offseason. |

I agree that he did the right thing at the tdl. With our super limited depth, it was no shock that we struggled when we lost one of our best d. I kind of thought that we’d be at least competitive with drysdale and seeler back but boy was I wrong |
