The gauthier situation is likely the biggest fail this year. I really am not seeing much from
Drysdale so far and I worry about injuries with him. This team was also never going to be a bottom five team capable of getting a true star player. If the idea is to complete a full tear down so be it but then I’d say anyone on the roster and any prospects we have would be in play to ensure top picks over the next 5 to 10 years.
Personally, I don’t mind how db has approached this. He could have held on to Walker but didn’t and got a decent return. He’s got two firsts this and next year and to me the key is to hit on those. All the younger players should get big ice time and vets like Atkinson staal should never see the ice. - Hextall271
I’ve liked Drysdale game (one of the few) since he’s returned from injury. But I’m with ya on the injury front. I’m ok with DB up until today, if only for the fact he’s only been in the position for a year…but now I want to see his plan start to take shape…there’s more to be done. |

blown away =not interested in trading. no team is going to blow you away for laughton. - hello it's me 2050
I guess you CAN fall in love with a player huh Torts?
At least this summer all teams will be looking to make deals. You take offers on Farabee, Laughton, Frost, Konecny, Hathaway, Poehling etc.
The reality of it though, Is will GMDB do it? I am not confident.
They will probably finish out of the playoffs and picking in the teens. My worst nightmare when the season started.
The engine seized from being redlined all season. And instead of shopping for the top of the line Mopar parts to rebuild the engine, they will be picking from the U Pull-It out in the woods.
Sorry for the poopty analogy. |

yep and shows the flyers have no long term vision or plan. - hello it's me 2050 That will be determined during this upcoming off season. Then you can say that they have no long term vision or plan. They were knocking on the door of the playoffs and I don't have a problem with them doing what they did. They still garnered a first round pick for what amounts as a rental defender. They have 4 first rounders in the next 2 drafts. We shall see...

Hell, my brother and I used to call each other queers all the time and not even think about it. Now everything is about don't offend the snowflakes. I'm sure MJL was really upset that day. |

Couturier was used incorrectly this season. Scratching him and dwindling his minutes were both massive mistakes. I believe his scratching culminated with the beginning of the players not consuming Torts cool-aid at the same rate they did earlier in the year.
Losing Hart is/was tough but I thought the Flyers could have been smarter and given a lengthier look at Sandstrom. Remember how awkward and out of place Ersson was in his first 3-4 starts?
Scratching their top center/playmaker for 11 games is truly an unforced error, as was giving Laughton and Poehling the minutes they've received for the majority of this season.
Not addressing the importance of resolving their momentum-killing dead last in the league power play is another unforced error. It's a key feature of every team and one that usually makes up the majority of any NHL team's scoring.
I think the coach failed with establishing paired combos of forwards or consistent lines throughout the season which is how you establish on-ice success and creativity; AKA goal-scoring. I would have liked to see a line of Farabee/Couturier/Brink for most of the season.
The Flyers had a chance to really develop some of the youngsters this season. York, Foerster, Frost, Tippett, Zamula (although he's in the doghouse again) all took steps forward. I'd argue playing around and scratching Frost, just as Torts played around with York last season only impeded their progress.
Just look around the Metro — nearly every other team has at least 1 elite or star level player. Some have more than that. As stated frequently from last season, the Flyers have to continue to be bad before they can start getting better.
Picking around the middle of the 1st round for a team that lacks a true star player is the definition of insanity. |

and? you find the next seeler. that's how you acquire assets t build. seeler should 100% have been traded. - hello it's me 2050
And his replacement could have been Ginning who we already had, or signed for a $1m in July. Stupid signing...if we have Seeler and Risto on the 3rd pairing, that is over $8m on a 3rd pairing. |

Great piece. Wish they flattened out after they fired the great Peter Laviolette. With the current strategy they are doomed to stay in nomansland. |

I also feel it had something to do with Gauthier not wanting to be here, and proving young, talented players still wanted to commit to Philly.
I remember when it was floated that he wanted an 8 year, $6+ per contract. I thought that was an insane amount for what Tippett has shown so far. I remember many saying move on, get him out of here. Then when he signed after the couple of nice goals, it was " Great contract, great AAV".
I watch Tippett and he can skate like the wind, he always seems to be moving, and gets his share of breakaways due to his skating and talents. I do, however, think he is a bit of a one trick pony...his breakaways are almost predictable. I think he should have gotten a shorter contract, as a prove you are the real deal kinda thing. Maybe a 3 year at $5-$5.5. The Flyers, if they continue giving out 8 year contracts, are going to get stuck in a corner and it is going to cost a lot for them to be able get out of it.
For the players on this team, the amount of guaranteed salary they have committed over the next couple of years is really poor cap management. I am not talking about the contracts they took on in the Provy and Walker deals. $81.5 million next season, not including Johansen contract.

The biggest issue is that he is exactly the type of player we need. High end top six player. We could use several of them. With our luck, he’ll become the next Crosby. Sometimes it’s quite depressing to be a flyers fan. - Hextall271
Even if he becomes as good as Pevelski he would be a great player for Anaheim. I think he will be better than that though. |

Gentlemen, it’s that time. Tank is on. Pp% wise we are picking 12th right now. Big Aimprovement from 20-22 which is what we were looking at. let’s hope that Buffalo can pass us. That would get us to 11. Need an overtime win from Buffalo over Detroit today. Big 3 point game!! |

Good points and I agree with you about letting db execute his plan. The biggest problem we’ve had here is not sticking with a plan.. panicking and changing course. I’d have been a lot more ok with hextall firing had they said, he’s not our guy but are going to stick with a draft and develop plan. We flipped to a win now mode and it was a disaster. Then now back to a rebuild plan. |

It was a disaster because of all the wasted draft capital from Hextall. It had nothing to do with flipping the switch. They hired a buffoon and nepotism baby only added to the failure. |
