Poehling, Hathaway and Seeler are what's wrong with the team at the front office level. These are the kind of guys who can be picked up off the scrap heap every offseason for pennies on the dollar, yet here the Flyers are paying a premium, both term and dollar-wise. It doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of sense for a rebuilding team to hand out 2+ year deals with a pay raise for the type of role players that seem to be available every year. - BaronVonShiznit
Not only that but those players are core players in Tortorella's eyes. The type of players that he prefers and will overplay. Overpay and overplay.

Konecny, Tippett and Farabee are all bona fide top 6 wingers.

No owner is signing up for that. What exactly have they been signed up for since 2010? LOL. Saying Hextall stunk at drafting is hyperbole. - MJL

you think those guys are really that overpaid?
how about Joel "$5 million a year until 2028" Farabee? We gave him too much, too soon and for too long.

How high ( draft position) do you think the Flyers can finish this year?
I don’t see them doing higher than 12th pick. I was never a “ tanking guy” but at this point every ping pong ball matters!! |

I’m not getting that feeling. If their real goal was making the playoffs and they were content with that, there is no way they’d move Walker. The Johnson move doesn’t matter at the time the organization needed a body. A laughton trade didn’t have to come at the deadline. It could come next summer. Konecny is an interesting tell. He needs to be moved by next years deadline. I think they go into the season with him without a deal and will move him at deadline. I think they want his services for a year so the team has some talent to draw people - Just5
I would argue there is a way. If they hadn't moved even Walker, then their rebuild strategy gets totally falsified.
They will neither totally rebuild (though they should) nor totally sell out for any given season. It will be a bit of this, a bit of that. The ultimate objective will be to maintain respectability/relevance while also doing enough to claim the mantle of 'rebuild' |

Farabee has a strong first half of the season. Was one of the top scoring LW's in the NHL in the first half. Especially at EV. Maybe you just weren't watching? Had sunglasses on? Unfortunately he has been in a massive two month slump that has hurt the team. Still a good player but with the Flyers excess in talented young players. He's obviously expendable. - MJL
Everyone notices the horse out of the gate the fastest at the start of the race but if it isnt in the top three when it matters then it isnt relevant - with or without sunglasses
Congrats to him on his great first half of the season

It was far more than just a horse out of the gate, it was months of strong play. Despite his far too long slump, Farabee is still in the top 30 in total scoring among NHL LW's and ranks 14th in EV points production.

And that’s what the hextall era was too right? If you’re not selling the farm, this is what we get because we’re too proud of a franchise to tear it down. It’s a joke

Much better than picking 17 and getting smoked round 1. I think they can get to 11 |

If Hextall drafted better things could have been different. Outside of #1 center, you don’t need to blow it up to have a good chance to finding the pieces needed to win the cup.
I have my doubts on the ability of the Flyers to draft well enough without top picks to put together a contender. That’s why I would prefer tanking. However this past draft looks really good. If they can string together a couple of those over the next few years, they wouldn’t have had to blow it up. |

For those that don't know, under Tortorella, the Flyers have set new team records for "Hit somebody" in consecutive years.
NicD set the record last year 306 hits
Hathaway is now the Flyers "Hit somebody" record holder with 312 hits.
Flyers don't have elite talent, can't win games, score much, and play washed up vets over the kids whenever possible but by god, they will continue to "hit somebody" if they can do nothing else. It is the Flyers way.

Yea, that's the reason there's no pro beach hockey, lol. I never said to get rid of it but much like fighting, it can't be the focus of a player's contribution on the ice.
Staged fights between goons should be history. A product of the past from when there weren't enough skilled players to fill out rosters. If you have players who can actually play hockey drop the gloves for legitimate reasons in the spur the moment that's one thing but players whose only role, like ND for instance, is to step on the ice for 2 minutes to drop the gloves with the goon on the other team who also can't play hockey aren't helping the team win the game.
The same thing with hitting players, hitting people is fine, but it shouldn't be your main contribution to the hockey team.
Maybe if the Flyers weren't expending so much energy on things that don't lead to goals, they'd have a little more energy left at the end of the season.

Things were changing with every game last night. It’s disappointing that we’ve gone from calculating playoff percentages to calculating draft position. Yay Flyers. 😂 |

I’m a believer in farabee and his game. I’m not sure what happened in the 2nd half, perhaps there’s an injury there. I have no worries about the contract |
