If it is based just on points, Hughes is at 1.12 per game, not counting tonight and Cale Makar is at 1.15 per game. One plays in all situations 1 doesn't kill penalties. It is a lot closer than you think. - Reubenkincade
Cale Makar has had a much worse season than Hughes. He plays on the PK but is bad at it. Away from Mackinnon his numbers are baaad. |

I was over him last year.
He looked slow and disinterested.
Glad they didn’t move him.
He’s a totally different player this year.
Stoked for him and his accomplishments. - dbot
He seems like a really good guy. Happy for him after what he went through with the loss of his dad. |

I have only seen Colorado play twice, so I can't say how he has been, but another 2 guys that are having good seasons are Josi and McAvoy, both will get consideration
Edit, they gave it to Karlsson last season, so who knows who the so called hockey writer experts will give it to |

Away from Mackinnon, Makar has allowed more goals than he has been on for, and he gets significantly more offensive zone starts than Hughes, just as a couple of examples.
Agreed on Josi having a great year, but I think Hughes has simply done it better. The guys you mentioned will get a lot of 3/4/5 place votes |

All I really care about is the team winning a Cup, individual trophies are just that, for individuals |

You started the conversation by saying it was close between him and Makar, I'm just explaining why it's not.
Agreed though individual accomplishments are irrelevant when there's a bigger goal |
