I'm well aware of what Utah is, but I'm just saying that team should have been moved a long time ago. And now they are talking about trying to put a team in Atlanta again...WTF! I'm a weather geek and very familiar with geography. Thanks! - Phillywhiteout
What's wrong with Atlanta?

Agreed, a team in Quebec doesn't make sense. They need to grow new markets. - MJL
How expensive will it be to go to a game in Canada once the carbon tax kicks in? Beers are already expensive correct?

I think they have his rights until summer 2025. - MBFlyerfan
I believe it is August 15th 2024. So all he has to do is workout on his for a couple of months or find a team that will give the flyers "future considerations" for his rights, which will still be a better return than what DB got for Gauthier. |

Carbon tax kicked in years ago. They just keep increasing it every year even though they told provinces in 2016 there would be no increases. Liars and scoundrels in government up here. |

What's wrong with Atlanta? - WhiskeyMan Is this a real question? They've already tried it there twice and failed miserably.

I guess I misunderstood your post. It wasn’t a personal attack. - Dkos I didn't take it personally. They probably wanted to relocate somewhere nearby, so as to not have realign a bunch of divisions. Jersey should move to Quebec.

If Quebec got a team back I guarantee Roger’s or bell who own sportsnet and tsn respectively would pay to have them covered. It wouldn’t t be as lucrative as a us deal but how is it a less viable option than salt lake .. a city of 200 k?ffs. I think it is shown to be a better option than zona. - Hextall271
The slc metro area is much bigger than 200k. The media market is what they are looking for.
Take where im from (Buffalo) the city only has like 250k but the Buffalo metro area is like 1 million. |

Food for thought…. Canada needs to get to 8 teams with this expansion that will come. There’s only one logical location for that 8th team. It’s not Quebec City. We see the problems with Winnipeg now and good chance Quebec would eventually deal with that.
The logical thing to do is put the 8th team in the Toronto area. Problem is if they go to Hamilton it could draw fans away from leafs AND Sabres. If it’s closer to Toronto it takes money away from leafs.
But it’s really the only city that can sustain another Canadian team long term without worry. |

Yeah. It’s a mess. The cost of living up here would shock many Americans. We also didnt properly plan immigration levels and now there’s a housing problem. I am all for immigration but it had to be planned out so that people coming in and those currently hear have affordable housing. I always say though that many places in the world have bigger problems than we do.
As a side note, I think Quebec could support an nhl team as they draw well for the q but it’s not going to happen with Bettman. |

Carbon tax is about “redistribution of wealth”. Low income people get $ every month back. My daughter in university…never had a job….gets 124$ back a month. Another liberal give a way to buy votes….if they took the $ and actually used it for its intention, it might have a chance to be successful.
Beer is still stupid expensive. Most of it is tax as well. I think I’m + 60$ for 24 tall boys.
It used to be a gate driven league…Quebec would never have an issue if it still was. The weak Canadian $ and Bettmans insistence to grow the game in big US media markets.
It’s a business…and Regardless of Bettmans influence on the on ice product (which I don’t like) you can’t argue with the job he’s done growing the business. |

I’m not sure they have the corporate sponsorships or a deep pocketed owner willing to throw $ away like the guy in Winnipeg. |

Was talking about this earlier this morning up at the cottage….of course we are all for immigration as we all are 2-3 or maybe only 4th generation. But to allow people in that offer nothing in the way of tax dollars while still using the social programs and health care system. It’s one of the major reasons our health care system struggles. I agree 100% that there aren’t many better places to live than in Canada….we have laws…we have safety. We have no wars on our doorstep. Like I said to my Daughters after the last election….I didn’t vote for tha ass clown…but the guy with the most votes won….and that should always be celebrated and protected. |

Ya a second team in the GTA will be blocked by both Toronto and Buffalo. It would easily become a top 10 in wealthiest NHL franchises. Maybe one day. |

All those Nords fans shifted their allegiances, many to the Habs. - Tomahawk Oh, I wasn't aware of that. That was a pretty brutal rivalry from what I remember and the cities are certainly far enough apart (100+ miles). That's why I always thought that the Devils should move. I mean, they're like 5 miles from the Rags. |

It’s insane. Some franchises losing money. All the broadcast chaos and a watered down product. The NHL being sued. Bettman is in over his head and won’t be able to navigate what’s ahead. - Minnyhock
Who is losing money? Are your figures from the Covid times? I thought the league was doing ok and every franchise is back in the black. |

Define leafs will block ? They have 1 vote. I don’t think 1 vote can block. Maybe they can. I was speaking in terms of what makes sense. Although I do agree leafs would try to block. Money grab |

It’s not matter if Toronto NEEDS another team. It’s matter could it support it. Yes obviously it could
On Quebec yes they would draw well. So did Winnipeg. But with Canadian economics when times get tough those smaller areas sometimes can’t support big nhl nowadays |
