You should get no awards if you miss the playoffs. This is professional hockey, not pee wee. |

AWARDS are just that. You earn the recognition.
Even if the team is wonky, the player has some attribute deserving a button.
It's good in negotiations. It's good when you trade. It's good when you retire.
The players get a chance to see what is rewarded and what they should emulate.
I see no reason to belittle this process.
The team is served some PR time and interviews will follow.
Who loses?
It gives the fans something to praise or kvetch about during the off-season.
It makes the boards more relevant.
(Assuming we do not have the same ability during a PO.) |

So where does Matt Davis (139 saves on 142 shots in the Championship round) get drafted.
He might be good, eh? |

Bill, since it's obvious that Torts will not play Attard, Ginning and Lycksell in the playoffs even if they make it, will the Flyers do the right thing and send them back down to help the Phantoms?
And if the Flyers do not make the playoffs, can they also send down Brink and Foerster and would they even do that?

Yeah it's always weird how a big game performance can lead to potential. Remember Ray LeBlanc? Great performance in the Olympics for the US, but that doesn't make you NHL caliber.
23 years old...there's a reason why he hasn't been drafted already. Seems like a great kid and very humble after the win, but pro hockey might not be his dream.

So if the Pens, Wings and Caps all lose in regulation tonight the Flyers control their fate on Tuesday? |

So does Cutter make the Ducks next year? How many years will it take for him to provide an impact to the team? |

Apparently he did sign yesterday. To avoid any drama from him I bet he makes the team next season. Impact is harder to judge. |

Rizzo not signed as yet. Another prospect dis-ing this beloved franchise. While he is on lesser scale than Gauthier, it might be worse optics... |

He is already on the NHL squad. They signed him and he is reporting to the Ducks. |

If he goes UFA (which he probably will) it'll probably have nothing to do with the Flyers (or the Canes).
It'll be because he's already got another destination in mind. |

Makes his debut on Thursday.
A day after losing the NCAA men’s hockey championship game to the University of Denver on Saturday, Boston College sophomore Cutter Gauthier signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Anaheim Ducks, the team announced Sunday.
Gauthier is expected to practice with the Ducks on Tuesday and make his NHL debut Thursday in the Ducks’ season finale at the Vegas Golden Knights. |

Why would it be worse optics? Rizzo was compensation for the DeAngelo buyout. not a top 5 pick. Why did the Canes trade him? Not that a high of a prospect? Rizzo told the Canes he would not sign with them? Maybe Rizzo has a team he wants to sign? Flyers not much leverage trying to move DeAngelo. Maybe traded for Rizzo to negotiate with him to sign with them. See how it plays out.

He is a 7th round pick that will be 23 soon. Are we really that upset if he does not sign?

I'm not. If he signs great, but he is at best a bottom 6, at worst a 4th line /AHL tweener.
